mculloch -ooooh , how exciting that you have a share in "Rummy" I am sure that he will give you a lot of fun! I am going to Ascot next week courtesy of free tickets on this site :money: He is not running there is he??
Thanks C., it is exciting! He's a NH horse, and will be running in bumpers* for a little bit, he's a July 08 foal (laaaaaaaaate foal!) so is younger than most of the opposition. He's got the bone and the backside to go chasing eventually, I reckon.
Hope you have a great time at Ascot, fingers crossed for some drying weather.
A colt a friend bred won at Royal Ascot a few years ago. That ranks as one of my most memorable moments and I was only watching on the TV. It was surreal, you dream of something like that happening, but think 'naah, get real' and then it did.
Sadly the trainer never made best use of him and although he won another prestigious race at York's Ebor meeting the following year, it's very much a case of 'If only...' (He hadn't had that prat for a trainer..)
* A bumper is a race run over 2 miles on the flat on a jumps track by potential jumps horses. It's a safe way of checking that they have the stamina to cope with the jumps game.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Evening all.
I've had a dreadful case of the CBA's today - I'd like to argue that it was because I was waiting for 2 phone calls (one from the shop about the seedlings, one from my letting agent about a leaky window, neither of which happened ) but it was really just CBA!
1) A decent night's sleep last night and a nice lie-in this morning.
2) Got my essay back with the same mark again (for the 4th time), which is good but a little disappointing as it would have been nice to have improved after all these months of studying. :undecided
3) The sun came out this afternoon, although accompanied by gale force winds so I didn't feel I was being spoilt.
4) Took some stuff up to the tip, so I no longer have a broken greenhouse and washing line cluttering up the garden.
5) Playing the freebie game from yesterday's MSE email, which is quite fun but a bit pointless as it doesn't really seem to go anywhere.
6) Pub quiz this evening, which will at least force me to get my bottom in gear and do something!
mcculloch - how exciting - your very own racehorse! (Well, part of a racehorse, anyway.) Go Rummy!
Chickenopolis - I'm glad your ears are a bit better today. Have a lovely time at Ascot.
Have a nice evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening all,
Thanks for your concern. I was having password issues which are all sorted now. i have been keeping up to date though with all your news.
As for my last week or so.... I didn't get the new job. It was a bit of a relief though because my heart wasn't really in it. The assessment day was a bit of a mess... not helped by my being half an hour late (took me 2 and a half hours to go 40 miles and then they didn't have parking which took me a further half hour to find).
I have stupidly managed to accept a colleagues invitation to dinner this weekend... she caught me off guard and now I don't know what to do. Previous times I have claimed to be busy and now this time she is super excited about it and I really, really, really don't want to go. She is quite sweet.... but we have nothing in common at all. It will be dire. I am going to have to tell her that I am needed to babysit for my nephew I think. I feel bad but I really can't face it.
The offer on the house wasn't accepted. Someone else has offered £10k more than me which also hasn't been accepted (apparently) - I still think that the house is way overvalued.
1) I baked and brought a hummingbird cake into work... which everyone loved.
2) Had a cheeky S#bway sandwich for lunch.... I do like their veggie delight sandwiches
3) Funny text and instant messanger conversations with various friends
4) Long chat with my mum and dad. My mum has had a horrid time recently. She is the secretary at a school and the headmaster has just been dismissed on fraud charges, which she had to provide some evidence of, then there were some bomb scares at the school and now the press is getting invovled. Not nice.
5) Lots of nephew love. i have seen both of them in the past few days and both of them were very grumpy until I arrived... I am not the favorite aunty for nothing!
Have a lovely evening.

VJsmum, we know them as a blackout, maybe they have a different name. Its a card with football teams and people pay £1 to put their name against each team. One team is listed as the winner at the bottom of the sheet or on the back, and when the card is full you pull the black sticker off to see who won. Not sure how many teams are on a card but if 50 then you could give the winner £20 (or £25 depending on how generous you feel) and keep the rest for your charityI've had a dreadful case of the CBA's ...
CCP ...took me a whilebut think I've worked that one out , would first 2 words be "can't be" by any chance
Ladyhawk sorry to hear your offer on the house wasnt accepted and that you didnt get the job, but maybe for the best if your heart wasnt in it.
Maybe your colleague is lonely...can you live with the guilt if you cancel ?

Skint - that's just mean!!!
I think she is lonely but maybe she should pick someone she has something in common with to try to be friends with. And I know this sounds awful but she is also quite junior to me at work so it makes it difficult to even talk about work things... So we don't even have that to discuss!! And she will go on and on all evening about her seemingly ghastly exboyfriend who she only dated for about 5 seconds and how much she still loves him. So yes... I think I can live with myself

hello all. So now not only am I in the company of a Lord's wife (who tells us she isn't a lady?!) but also a part race horse owner. I am truly elevated
Strange day at work, but some good bits nonetheless
1) Got quite a bit done before getting a (work) taxi to...
2) Meet with friend for quick coffee before...
3) Loooong meeting over lunch before...
4) Getting hair done. £20 for totally fab cut and colour then...
5) Back home to put onto computer all the work I'd been doing while the colour was taking, do urgent marking and answer some emails. Yay
Oh and found out why my bank balance was lower than I expected yesterday. I'd misremembered a large DD going out end of month but in fact it's already gone out. And gas DD has gone down £15. Might have mentioned that yesterday, but honestly am so used to fuel bills going up can't believe it's gone down :jMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

So went to website and it said 'quote your 12 digit number' but letter has 5 digit extract ID no., a 14 digit A/c no. and an 8 digit prop ref no. so very very confused (which I told them on their website!)

5 pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) Sons to school, smaller feigning illness once again but soon forgot about it.
2) Cleaned! The ed psych is coming here to talk to me tomorrow so really got stuck in to tidying. Changed the boys' beds, tidied and hoovered upstairs, cleaned the bathroom, did all washing etc.
3) Kept looking for quotes for new window frames. Seem to have found a good company near Bristol. Looks like the windows will be about £100 each (with the tiny one at the foot of the stairs only £50!) So hopefully I will be able to get quite a few done downstairs this year then start on upstairs next summer.
4) Texts from OH with one or two rather daring ones. :-) I was wondering whether I had ever received a racy text message before then realised the answer was "no" - the last time I was likely to receive a message like that, mobile phones weren't commonplace!!
5) Had a lovely evening. Smaller son hasn't been on red on the school behaviour board for 2 weeks so we went to the cinema then to McD's. :-)0 -
Evening all
Chicken tomorrows wi will be a big disappointment, it's been a very foody week. Not complaining of course, it was all very tasty, thank you. Pleased your ear is bit better, that itchy feeling is enough to drive you nuts!
Ladyhawk good to see you back, sorry to hear the news re the job/house but the hummingbird cake sounds like it could be salve for almost any disappointment. If you are 'babysitting' make sure you don't answer your landline (if you have one) or it could be embarrassing!
Frith re your #5 - that's lovely news, the treat was very well deserved :T
Millie and beachbaby hope you're both oky
1. Woke early after a rotten night, so managed to earth up the tatties before going out
2. Exercise morning, plus an interesting talk by one of the charitable org's. I used to work with them professionally and was surprised at the many changes there have been in the past few years
3. Stopped at the farm shop for pet food on the way home, they were selling daffys for £1 for 3 bunches. Bought 6 bunches, not OS I know but I love yellow flowers
4. My daffys in the garden are still in full bloom, a late blooming variety called Sir Winston Churchill which I only came across a couple of years ago. Beautiful creamy double flowers with an egg yolk yellow throat, they're obviously a good old 'British bulldog breed' as they haven't been beaten down by all this weather
5. Stopped at Mr M, got some liver which the animals and I love, and a ys lamb steak. My favourite cut of my favourite meat, am so looking forward to dinner tomorrow
Sweet dreams0
