5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Sat here in my ex-council house quietly chuckling. The part of the racehorse I've rented rather than owned, is a very small part - I've leased a 1/50th share in Angrove Rumbaba, he is syndicated, it works out at £12.50 a week for syndicate members. (The costs of keeping a race horse are phenomenal, in case you speculate on buying one and leasing it to others as a moneyspinner.)
But it's still my money and the truth is that the huge majority of racehorses don't even remotely cover their expenses, the prize money is piffling in comparison with footballer's wages for example. The hope is that he will train on well and do something; but most don't.
The horse my friend bred was bought by an overseas owner who is fabulously wealthy and one of the major names in racing and it's the money of these big guys that runs the game, mostly. But just once in a while a fairytale happens. I love racing and now I'm properly involved in it - that's the biggest thrill.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Morning
Pleasures for yesterday,
1. Went on a really boring course for work but the pleasure was the lunch was nice.
2. NSD as any spend was on expenses
3. Pleasure that I know I can now walk to walk and no longer commute into London, have done it twice this week and so glad I don't have to do it every day.
4. DD and OH laughing and joking together
5. OH came in with 6 bottles of wine from Mr.T special off :money:. He's learning
Hugs to all who need them0 -

Have a good evening all !
I know what you mean - OH is downstairs and Friday is MY day too. He is off out in a moment though and I have been in the bath. I shouldn't be so mean - it is our wedding anniversary today. 21 years - I know "less for murder" and all that. He irritates the hell out of me at times (as I'm sure I do him) but i can't imagine being married to anyone else. I am positive I would have ended up doing serious injuries to other husbands of my acquaintance (no, not like that)
Anyway for yesterday
1. Funny times with students. They are really irritating though - they don't realise you are trying to help them.
2. Colleagues birthday so she brought in cake. I snaffled a Tunnock's teacake for next week.
3. Toast for tea - cba to cook and OH had sorted out him and kids. Quite liberating
4. Went in late as I was f@rting about at home. THey owe me zillions of hours so I don't care much.
5. Actually watched more TV whilst knitting - long lost family, had me blubbing.
Have a good day allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Yesterday's goodies:
1. Received some cards for my birthday (today, happedy burfday to meeeee!) from colleagues
2. Sorted out a cupboard in the office and have lots of random stuff that I will donate to my Rainbows/freegle rather than just bin. When the company moves out of that building, they're going to need a row of skips just for all the Xmas decorations that teams have bought and forgotten about over the years!!
3. OH paid for us to have a chippy dinner
4. DD's chum came for a sleepover and was a very good boy, so he can come again
5. DD and her chum spent an age wrapping my presents, they were so cute, running in and out of the garage and laughing their heads off
I'll be back later to let you know what the presents were..... and how lovely a day I've had0 -
Happy birthday kittikins I hope you have a wonderful day x

Dundee - I just knew that you would link these two together :rotfl:
mcculloch-I have never actually watched a bumper before in real life, they are usually the last race and we would have been walking and washing down the horses ready to go load and go home - or now I am not involved any more I get tired and need to leave before the last race :rotfl: Watched a clip on CH 4 of a bumper in Ireland , the course was like a lake- that horse sure had stamina or webbed hooves !! You sound very excited , as I would be tooGood luck - have some fun with him x
Frith - Ding Dongracy = good
ladyhawk - re the meal - Chicken says ....if you have to go ,have a few glasses of vino before and then take a hip flask
5 for today
1. Day off
2. OH went out tasked with many errands so still sort of MY day .VJsmum - I don't think I have even liked anyone for 21 years, congratulations btw
3. Washing blowing violently on the line - I love watching it ! Sad but true .
4. Spent 4 hours sorting out veg. plot - planted my courgettes , some beans that did not take in the greenhouse , and put some sticks behind the peas which have gone wild. The strawberries have flowered and considering they were £1 and were rtc as they looked dead they are doing well . I am cream crackered now though
5. Meal deal from Mr. S 4 main and 2 sides for £10 tonight (one of OH's "errands" )- thanks to :money:
Have a lovely weekend all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Happy Birthday to Youuuu Kittikins _party_ hope you having a super day and get all you want for and more. Oh, and a big wedge of one of these...:bdaycake:
just for starters0 -
Evening everyone.
My pleasures for last few days:
1. Found my baking mojo. Decided to give muffins another go as I've always struggled with them for some reason. Anyway made 12 x 3 batches of various flavours, not all worked out quite as well as hoped but realised how much I've missed baking lately.
2. Enjoying a glass of wine and some roses chocolates that H bought. Ok not terribly OS or :money: but a pleasure all the same.
3. H has been at home sick with a cold, not nice that he's poorly but it's been nice having some company.
4. Puppy cuddles and killer cat cuddles.
5. Found a tai chi book that H had bought years ago, might have a browse through and see if I can remember any of it
6. DD keeps calling me mamma, which we've never used but is kinda sweet all the same
6. It's Friday, which means the weekend tomorrow. Aside from walking the pooch it means a more leisurely start to the day.
7. A pleasant few hours browsing Thriftladys blog, I do enjoy her posts and I even had a re read of the Christmas posts. :rotfl: yes I am sadbut I love Christmas
Kittikins happy birthday
VJsmum happy anniversary  well done on 21 years :T
Enjoy your Friday evenings all.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
All will be well in the end. If it's not well, it's not the end.Be humble for you are made of earth. Be noble for you are made of stars0 -
Evening all:
KITTIKINS - happy birthday
VJSMUM - happy anniversary
SPARRER / CHICKEN - thanks for the advice. She was fine about my cancelling... I just have to remember on Monday to not forget that I "babysat" on Saturday!
1) Just the girls in the office (well from our team) which was nice. The boys are so competitive!
2) We popped out to C0sta for lunch... Well I sat and watch them eat and drink coffee and grabbed a 65p salad when I got back to the office.
3) Two of my lovely colleagues J and A and I went for a quick glass of wine after work. J has just resigned (well 2 weeks ago) and finally told us today (though I've known all along because my boss is indiscreet). I'll be sad to see her go but she has been so miserable for the past 18 months that it really is the right move for her.
5) Fabulous rainbows on my way home tonight. SPARRER did you see them?
Night all. Its going to be an extra quiet weekend for me with no TV... And no cash to spend.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Evening all.
A couple of late ones for yesterday first:
7) Bought a lottery scratchcard as the cash machine was out of order and I needed to buy something to get cashback, and won £3. :j
8) Won the bonus question at the pub quiz, which won me £40. :j:j:j
And for today:
1) Sunshine. I'd almost forgotten what the stuff looks like.
2) Went out for a nice walk along the seafront. I've agreed to do the Race for Life with a friend over the summer, so I thought I should get in some practice.
3) Did some tidying up in the garden and found three cowslips that had seeded themselves in a pot. I just need to work out how to get them out without damaging them or the plant in the pot.
4) Made a pot of very nice chilli con carne.
5) Watching a documentary my DM recommended, accompanied by a glass of 'cider'. (Actually cheap apple juice from AF, but I can pretend.)
Kittikins - hope you've had a fantastic birthday.
mcculloch - I've been trying to work out what 1/50 of a horse is - a hoof, maybe?Skint_yet_Again wrote: »CCP ...took me a whilebut think I've worked that one out , would first 2 words be "can't be" by any chance
Spot on.
