    Afternoon all.

Mhags - I was so sorry to hear your news. I hope you and your family are doing as well as possible in the circumstances.

sparrer - your trip to Rome sounds like it's going brilliantly. It's a city I intend to visit myself as soon as I can, given that the degree I'm close to finishing (well, close-ish - 18 or months or so to go) includes a lot of Roman history.

A few of my pleasures for the last few days:

    1) Enjoying a couple of good lie-ins, having got home late two nights in a row (late by my standards, anyway - 1am ish - I'm not really a night person).
    2) My favourite brunch yesterday - SO smoked salmon on HM seed bread. (The smoked salmon has to be on special offer or RTC: it doesn't taste the same if you have to pay full price. ;))
    3) Made a batch of hot cross buns. (Well, buns, at least - I made the flour and water paste too thin so the crosses slid straight off as soon as the bins went into the oven. :o)
    4) A cheap-ish night out at a comedy club last night: I didn't really want to go if I'm honest, but it was more fun than I expected.
    5) Ordered a copy of the DVD of the Puss in Boots film, using vouchers from doing surveys so it didn't cost me anything. :money: I can't wait for it to arrive as my DSis thought she'd got me a copy from Christmas but it turned out to be a cheap take-off - I haven't felt able to tell her she was cheated so I need a copy of the real thing so we can watch it next time she comes to visit.
    6) Making my own baked beans, using some super-cheap haricot beans I got from AF a while ago. :money:
    7) Planning a lazy evening at home, watching football with the rain dripping away outside.

    Have a nice evening, all.
Back after a very long break!

    it's saturday
1 been on a 3 and half mile walk round winster in the peak.
2 coffee and biscuits when we finished mum provided these plus crisps and chocolate half way round - the boys were very pleased with this.
3 went to see my brother in law and came back with 2 carrier bags of food. My OH is so blatant about asking for free food. - he even asked for tea bags.
4 seeing my boys watch danger mouse dvd stood on their heads.
5 staying up late and then not having to get up early

    bek

    4. Finally hoovered and dusted the house and it looks lovely for DD's return tomorrow

    5. Quick chat with DD, she was very tired as she's been on a big day out, can't wait for her to come back tomorrow :):)

5 for today (Saturday) so far.

    1) Bit of a lie in.

    2) Couple of texts from OH who is coaching/referreeing at a boys' rugby festival thingy in the south west til Monday. Miss him after spending much of the last week with him.

    3) Hot cross buns! (Or bums, very childish!)

    4) Paced egg rolling at mum and dad's. Bigger son's egg went down a rabbit hole and disappeared.

    5) Mum bought us a term of swimming season ticket for Easter. We had a years worth (well, mum and dad did and we all "lived" with them....) and it is excellent, hardly anyone uses the pool except for us.

    6) Sitting in front of the stove now watching Shrek, shortly to be followed by Shrek 2.

    7) I think I might sneak away from Shrek 2 and watch Casualty in my room on iplayer.

    Good evening all !

Ladyhawk - I predict sweetcorn fritters and corn bread. I did snigger a little when you mentioned "crop rotation" as it took me right back to O level history - seed drills and old ploughs , how large is your garden ?!

    OT - nice post .

CCP - please send the rain my way !

    5 for today

1.Went into town with OH and used some vouchers that I was given for Christmas .So I only spent 44p on face cream and £1.18 in M&S.

    2. Looked in our "posh" jewellers and the watch that OH bought for me in Barcelona in 2006 was over £400 more than it cost him back then. I have not seen the same version in the UK until today .I still love it and wear it all the time .

    3. Shifted some cash around to put in this years ISA .

4.Banked another bag of 50p's for my brothers 50th next year . I have saved £170 so far in 50p's since Jan 2010 . I keep asking him what sort of party he would like and he keeps changing the subject :rotfl:

    5. There is an advert on tv that makes me want to dance when it comes on . 1980's "Electric Dreams" (blow me its just come on as I am typing this). So got out my 80's CD's and had a mad half hour of shaking my booty and singing badly to Duran Duran , Spandau Ballet and Phil Oakey and Georgio Morodder - Electric Dreams . Which makes me think I should organise an 80's party for my brother :D

Have a good evening all !

    Evening!

Yum - Sweetcorn fritters! Thanks CHICKEN! My garden is decent sized (for a flat!) - maybe 15x20m or slightly bigger... But that is a guess.

I'm annoyed this evening (now there's a change!) - I went down to London to watch the boat race and lost my return ticket. The single cost more than the original ticket and when I got to Vauxhall the particularly unhelpful underground man told me that the ticket I had just bought was for a different route! Grrrrrrr! So all in all it cost £15 in additional fares.

    1) Nice lunch with my youngest DB's GF's parents and their friends. Their flat virtually overlooks the finish line of the boat race.

    2) Went to the pub with DB and GF. My youngest brother is a lovely chap but is a typical computer geek... No worse than that... He is exceptionally introverted and I have struggled to get on with him for the last 14 years. This GF has really done him the world of good and it was lovely to spend some time with him

    3) HM pizza for supper

    4) I took some composting outside and a nice lady popped her head over the fence to tell me how much she enjoys watching my garden change and that she was really looking forward to seeing what I am going to do with it this summer :)

    5) Glass of wine

    Night all

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

Oh dear Frith's bigger son, your poor egg :( (Hope he was okay about it). Sorry I did smile though when I read that, tickled my silly sense of humour
CCP you must go when you can, it's 'awesome' as DGD keeps saying :D
Aww, sorry Chicken, had I known....;)
Mhags pleased you've all got the weekend off together.

    1. Took the tube (€1 wherever you want to go) to the Spanish Piazza. Came out of the tube to see a beautiful obelisk with a statue of The Virgin Mary on the top, quick photo opportunity
    2. Walked 20 yards to The Spanish Steps, 138 steps at the top of which is the French church, Trinita dei Monti. Still don't believe, although I have the photos to prove it, that I made it to the top, albeit very slowly with lots of stops
    3. It was so much easier going down!
    4. At the bottom and across the square we found every designer shop a woman could dream of - not into them m'self but DGD had a whale of a time going up one side and down the other of the narrow streets (she did take a pic taken of me pretending to go into Jimmy Choo though, I do love his shoes. Well, all shoes in fact ;))
    5. We only have 2 days left  and have only spent 50% of our allowance so tomorrow it's a day of rest with perhaps just a stroll round the immediate area as everything will be closed, and Monday is serious shopping day :D

    Sweet dreams :)
