Good evening all !
Millie - I think Gem keeps coming up to you to say "I really was ill wasn't I Mum?" "I mean really, really ill " Bless her xx- what difference a week and a bit makes.
Ladyhawk - the house hunting sounds exciting.
5 for today
1. Postie brought a deodorant that OH has signed me up to try (is he trying to tell me something?????). It smells really nice, but it has left white marks on my t shirt as I was putting it on. I hate it when this happens. Still I will give it a go .
2. Managed to get the sheets and pillow cases dry and brought in just before it started raining. Nice clean bedding tonight.
3. Moved a large cloche in the garden in one of the raised beds , so that the hens could have a nice dust bath- which they all did. The ground has been too frozen for this of late.
4. Made some HM chicken balls from The take away secret book. I halved the ingredients stated for the batter as it was too heavy last time we made them. This was much lighter and crispier and delicious . I made mushroom fried rice and prawn crackers to go with it and a used a 27p tin of sweet and sour sauce.
5. Just watched a retro film Planet of the Apes circa 1968. I watched the series as a kid in the '70's but had never seen the film . I recall the rubber masks that the Apes wore and that their mouths used to remind me of Caramac Easter eggs , which I was rather fond of :rotfl:I still thought the same thing when I saw it tonight 30 plus years on !
Have a good evening all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Bek hope the oat bath helped, a friend puts rolled oats into a stocking and lets the hot water run through it for her LO who has eczema, and it really works for him.
he really enjoyed it he said it was really soothing. it's his head that's the worse he has a really thick mop of hair and his head is all bumpy with the poxif any one has any tips for head soothing we will give it a go.
bek:j0 -
Get well soon Broomstick's babies (well, they're probably well past baby stage but in my mind DD will always be my baby, even when she's 57 etc etc)
Yay to pesty GSD Millie, so happy she's being silly - post her through my door pretty please (so long as someone else does the walking) and DD and I will cuddle and fuss until she gives up and runs back home for some peace and quiet!
hakeber - re: poxy head and scratching, maybe get your little one to rinse his head with the oaty water? Chickenpox is horrible isn't it, hope you all get a break from it soon x
Yesterday's goodies....
1. Technically a NSD......I spent my £30 refund on changing house insurance on petrol and a chippie dinner for OH and I
2. We decluttered another bottle of wine, it wasn't very good as it was far too sweet and sickly but we 'forced it down', all in the name of decluttering.
3. Picked OH up quite late in the afternoon and spent the day packing (and watching a film and chatting to DD and my mum on the phone and generally procrastinating)
4. Watched another couple of films using my 2 weeks' free Bbuster offer
5. Looking forward to DD's return Sunday morning, yippee!!0 -
5 for yesterday (Saturday)
1) A lie in!
2) Cleaned and cleaned. Being ill for 3 weeks meant it had all crept up on me so I did all the downstairs (even under the stairs!) It took hours but looks good now.
3) Lovely boiled eggs and soldiers for lunch.
4) Enjoyed watching Winter Wipeout with sons.
5) School friend came here for tea. (Mine, not sons')
6) Made a chow mein type thing for tea with yesterday's chicken, cheapy peppers, noodles etc.0 -

Afternoon all.
Millie - I'm glad to hear Gem's so much better that she's being a nuisance.
hakebar - hope your little 'un feels better soon - chickenpox is such a miserable illness, isn't it?CCP I remember Minghella's very well! In the 50's my Uncle had a seafood cafe, The Lobster Pot, in Bembridge (now incorportated into the Crab and Lobster Inn) where I was introduced to cream soda. We were occasionally allowed a scoop of ice cream in it as a treat if we were there when the van came round. Mind you there was only vanilla in those days. It's amazing how one word can bring back so much, thank you for that super memory :A
I know the Crab and Lobster - it's got one of the most fantastic views just about anywhere.Millie I've never seen a programme being filmed on location, did go a television studio many moons ago to see TOTP when Billy J Kramer (who? I hear you ask) was appearing. Perhaps I should put something like that on my 2012 to do list. Ha ha to Gem, you've got to love GSD's even when they're a pain. She's certainly full of herself
Little Children, I believe? (That's why I'm the music expert on my pub quiz team.)
Pleasures for Saturday:
1) Slept late and dreamed about a lovely thatched tea room - I wish it really existed so I could visit for a coffee and one of the tasty looking cakes on display. I dream a nice cake, apparently.
2) One of those nice supermarket shopping trips where every other thing on my list was on special offer.
3) I managed to resist the temptation to buy a RM sandwich while shopping - I got some RTC rolls instead and made myself an egg sandwich when I got home.
4) Made a curry and HM onion bhajis for dinner, with enough left to freeze for a couple more meals.
5) Felt very cheerful all day, despite also feeling rather off-colour.
And for today:
1) Another lie-in this morning.
2) NSD.
3) Lazy day doing not much, except watching / listening to various football matches. (Well done Stevenage! :T)
4) Had a rare phone call from my DSis, who wanted to test her new mobile phone. (It will be fine when she works out which button cuts off the person she's talking to if she touches it by accident.)
5) Steak pie for dinner, made with a portion of steak stew from the freezer.
Have a nice evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Afternoon all. Millie - I keep likening Gem to my dad, he too is well enough to be a bit of a nuisance now
Once again they are talking about rehabilitating him to his local cottage hospital so that they can work on his mobility. Let's hope they both continue to be a nuisance for a while yet! The only thing is you can impose Gem on your parents, whereas I..... :rotfl:
Sparrer - please don't mention ironing, it reminds me that I have to do some.
Thanks for the tip on the oat bath - my small nephew has developed chickenpox today so I have passed the tip onto my sister.
So for yesterday
1. OH was hangover free enough to do the football run
2. I was then able to do butchers, farm shop, supermarket. Got more half price soap powder, I think I have enough for a year!
3. OH took DS to a footie match in the afternoon so I had a pottery time in the kitchen and watched several episodes of who do you think you are
4. Family meal out at an indian - not cheap but delicious and we haven't had family meal out for a while.
5. OH drove
And for today
1. Friends for lunch - it worked out well
2. Went for a nice walk beforehand and a drink in a pub
3. Beautiful sunny day - didn't feel all that cold
4. There is enough dinner left to make a good soup / stew
5. Looking forward to call the midwife and upstairs downstairs later.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
CCP re Billy J, you're definitely the quiz genius
. We used to sit upstairs in the cafe while we waited for my Uncle to close up, and look out at the beach, wishing we could be there - even though we'd already been there most of the day!
VJsmum sorry, will try to remember in future. I don't do it often, but my trousers needed the creases sharpening up a little bit
mhags thanks for reminding me, I have some milk on the point of turning so will make scones in the morning
Chicken thank you, it is a nice colour now I'm getting used to it. Think of the sun shining on a little brown hen
1. Woke to an amazingly bright morning and got around to washing the muck off the car which I'd picked up on the m-ways last Monday. Was going to take it to the car wash but kept thinking £5, £5, £5...and my conscience got the better of me!
2. Took the dining room curtains down and put them in the wm. The label says dry clean only but they came out well. They just need a light [STRIKE]iro[/STRIKE] de-crease, and can be hung up again in the morning
3. Good lunchtime meeting with friends, two new ladies joined us and I think/hope they'll come again, they seemed to enjoy our company
4. Emptied out the old potato tubs, the new spuds are chitting nicely so will spend my Christmas gardening vouchers on new soil, and hope there's enough left for a small bay
5. Found a big pack of pasta twists at the back of the cupboard, just as well I put back the one I picked up in the supermarket the other day. I really must keep a list of what I have in, for instance I haven't had to buy any loo roll for 10 months and probably won't for another 10! All packs were on bogof or other offer though
Sweet dreams

Evening all!!
Thanks for all the Gemma comments- Kittikins- she's yoursand she doesn't really need walking and she loves fuss!!
VJsmum- Gem and Oldie and your Dad will probably outlive all of us
and CCP - if I ever end up on "pointless" or similar, I need you to accompany me please, as facts do not stay in my brain for long!! OH swears I skipped a load of school/life in general (except the science bits) - he has a point!! The thatched tearoom rounds idyllic- I think it's a sign that you should open one, I would love to do something like that
Mine for today..bit of a sad day locally due to the horrid news about the coach crash involving our local school
1. Bit of a chaotic start- phonecall at 6.15 am (they are never good news are they?) Ponycarer: don'tpanictheponiesarefine...but I've broken down. So I yanked on some random clothing and went to save the day (kind of). Everyone was dispatched to where they needed to be, ponies were fed/turned/mucked out. Bon.
2. Came home to more toast with salted butter- this is not a good habit to be forming, but man, it tastes sooooo good!!
3. Lazy day- not sure that this ought to be a pleasure, but knowing that I had to go back out to do the hosses kind of limited my options. Besides, moving just meant that I got further stalked by my 4-legged stalker, so I kind of slobbed out
4. News that a "certain cat who was in the media a couple of week's back for crashing a football party" (you know the one) is alive and being well cared for by the rescue where my friend works and has no shortage of potential homes - he is such a cutie, apparently!
5. OH is home from silly hockey- they lost, he is not happy and I am not sure that my "it's only a club level match, get over it" offering has helped much...can't imagine why *whistles* So I am planning to drown his sorrows in wine and chocolate and a comedy DVD. I'm all heart.....
Hugs (and/or GSD licks) to anyone in need xx0
