RainyWednesday so pleased Scarf watch is back, I've been wondering how you were getting on with it. 3 feet, well done! I've been thinking of taking up another hobby and knitting seems to be a good idea with a scarf to begin with as I can pick it up and put it down when I want..trouble is it won't be very MS as the nearest wool shop is 11 miles away:rolleyes:
My 5
1. DS and his GF, who were here for NY, have bought a bread maker and slow cooker since seeing/experiencing mine. Lots of phone calls about what they should buy, it make me feel warm that they want to phone me for suggestions
2. Feeling sorry for anyone who has to venture out and very grateful I can stay at home in the warm. Retirement brings a lot of rewards we don't see until we're there
3. Very thankful indeed for MSE, without it I wouldn't have thought to stock up at the beginning of the recession, now I have enough food in the house to last a good 3/4 weeks.
4. Starting a clear out of the kitchen this morning in prep for the refurb in Spring. Where does it all come from? I didn't think I was a hoarder but I've already filled one box for car booting
5. The neighbour's children are playing snowballs outside and asked if they could take the snow from my car. I've not been out for four days so after they took what they wanted I ran it for a short while and it started first time as usual. I love my trusty little 8 y/o Korean job :A
Have a good rest-of-the-day, and stay safe

Afternoon all
My pleasures for the past couple of days have been
1 Snow - I know this is a mixed blessing really. I have left the car at home and walked to work all week and as I set off about 6.45 a.m it is so peaceful and serene walking in the snow before the chaos of poor people driving starts. I have really enjoyed walking in the deep snow with flakes drifting down lit by the street lights and no noise at all.
2 Again snow as it has made me have 3 NSD in a row as I didn't have the car to go to supermarkets to go buy what I now realise I probably didn't need in the first place.
3 MSE - I have been much more organised with food than I used to be and waste very very little now. My freezer could still feed us for at least another week if need be without me having to go to a shop if it came to it.
4 Day off today so am enjoying not having to dash around as I usually do and having a valid reason for it:D
5 Hubbie has a 4x4 and is going to take me to the supermarket tonight when he finishes work to collect fresh fruit and veg - hence me not having a NSD day today. I usually have to drag all the shopping in on my own (and often moan about it) so it will be nice to have a hand in carrying, packing and unpacking and storing it all (the worst and most hated job that I do!!!!!) We are calling on a couple of neighours before to see if they need anything fetching
Keep warm and safe everyone

Lovely sunny afternoon here, hope it is for you too! (But soooo cold!) I promised myself that I wouldn't be tempted to read anymore of the thread until I had finished the dreaded marking.......... Hurrah! All done!:j:j
1. Watching my son sledging for hours yesterday was a real pleasure. I would have loved to have a go too, but needed to hold on to the dogs lead as she was a bit over excited by all the people!!!
2. Shared a plate of chips with DS2 and had hot chocolate with cream at the golf course cafe at lunchtime. The view of snow over the golfcourse was beautiful.
3. Popped into Mr A for milk on the way home and found lots of whoopsies! (I've always called them yellow stckers, but Whoopsies are a much better name. Thanks guys!).
4. Got a bit emotional while marking some of my kids maths papers. I work in a special school and I felt so proud of them. They had tried really hard, and done so well. (Looking forward to telling them!).:A
5. Used up the other half of the ingredients to make more hm Baileys, and remains of roast potatoes into Bombay potatoes to accompany Whoopsied curry. Does this count as decluttering?
Anyway, will post todays 5 as a reward for finishing some more work! I am trying very hard to be diciplined while working from home, but so many temptations......:rotfl:0 -
Hi all
A bit of a boring day today, stuck indoors with the frozen roads outside not looking promising at all - at least it is a NSD for me today! I was going to go to buy salt for the dishwasher but took a look at the road and went back indoors.
Also, I haven't been feeling too well. Yesterday DD and I were hit by what I can only imagine is a flash-sick-bug. After dinner she felt sick and threw up, then I felt sick and threw up, then she again then me again.
DD's BF and DH, who had eaten exactly the same stuff (roast squash and parsnips, veggie sausages and baked beans) felt perfectly ok, so there was nothing in the food that could have caused it. Except that the squash was a little rotten on one side so I cut the rotten bit off - could DD and I have eaten a spoiled part? But wouldn't the heat of the oven kill any bugs? Ah whatever, in any case the both of us today felt a bit washed out but much better - but we both stayed indoors.
Let's find some pleasures today:
1 - Because of feeling unwell last night, perfect excuse for a long lie-in - goodness, I got to keep this in check, it is becoming a bit of a habit...
2 - Reading a very interesting book by Felicity Lawrence, called Eat Your Heart Out, which tells you what really goes into common foods and how bad it is for tne environment. Not a cheerful reading, but very interesting and enlightening.
3 - DD made me lunch while I worked, pasta with raw tomato and raw garlic (we reasoned that it is good to combat any bugs we might have in the stomach, even if it makes us smell a bit funny LOL).
4 - I am starting tackling some dissatisfaction with my work situation, wrote a letter to the chair of Trustees and got in touch with my union.
5 - Discovered that AussieLass is going to be in town and that there will be a London meet in January.
6 - Courtesy of LilacLillie (thank you!) I found out about a craft venue that I might attend in the future.
7 - Last but not least, had a fair amount of communication from DS in Italy who is having a good time and getting well stuffed with home-cooked food at my auntie's.
Off to fold some laundry now.
Cover up warm and stay chilled! xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hi everyone :hello:
I'm sat here in my little understairs 'office' [like harry potter!] and i am warm and toasty as i have spent most of the day clearing snow off my path and the car with a shovel and broom! The sun was glinting off the snow and sparkley, dry and powdery, unlike the wet stuff we usually get, much easier to clear.
# the snowmen are still standing in the street and have been further embellished with empty cans, wine bottles, a dummy, and one has some lovely earings made from 6 or 7 ring pulls!!
# bright sunshine and the blue sky today, with birds chatter as they greedily go for the seeds and suet i put out
# my neighbours giving me some hm lentil soup as a thankyou for getting their papers this morning, and it was lovely!
# noticing the beautiful tracery of bushes and trees outlined in snow against the sky,i wish i could paint !
# picking up £coin that was stuck in the icy bit on the road when i was brushing the car off!! that has gone into my sealed pot, woohoo!
keep warm and safe everyone,

Its cold! -5 at the moment, no chance of the snow melting.
5 for today:
1) Another day off school for the boys. I don't think the snow would make the journey difficult but the roads are awful due to the ice. I live at the top of a very steep hill and don't fancy sliding down that sideways tomorrow...
2) My brother came round to play on the Wii. He walked up the lanes then we picked him up when he reached the main road. Not that the main road was terribly thawed! He walked back across the fields.
3) Little son and I went out with a bucket and got some grit from the grit bin and sprinkled it all down our path/on the step.
4) Mr T made it here this morning!
5) Did a nice, homemade tea. Spag Bol (as requested by small people) followed by blackberry and apple crumble, the last of the blackberries that we picked in the summer.
6) Today is the 5th anniversary of when I left the ex husband. Luckily it wasn't this cold!
Think that's it. Looking forward to a hot bath closely followed by hot water bottle, bed and something to watch or listen to on iplayer.

1. DD and I having a nice day together, we went out for a little walk to pay a visit on a poorly friend and I was steadyish on my feet, but still wouldn't even contemplate walking up the hill to the village yet
2. I sold a book on Amazon, and have emailed the buyer to say I can't get to the post office just yet, hope they'll understand!
3. My third NSD of the month
4. Hoodwinking DD into eating a lovely green lentil dish for dinner, having forgotten to cook her a little pizza,,,,,oops. She had second helpings too but said she couldn't see any lentils, odd as they're huge, lol.
5. The customer service people at Lakeland. I called them to request a refund/replacement on a candle snuffer that broke the second time we used it and also to ask to send back a couple of things that I bought but aren't as fabulous as I'd anticipated (but to be honest, are still good!). The lady is going to send me out a snuffer, even though according to the website they're out of stock (yippee, I've wanted one for ages and was so disappointed when it broke), and told me to pass on the other bits to a charity shop and she'll refund me. What great service, it was the first time I've done an online order and I'm amazed as I was happy to send back the items!0 -
Evening all,
Mine for today......
1) Even though i am tired as woke at 2.45am i have had a productive cleaning day.
2)Have given a wide bearth to 'budget' cooking for one day and have made a gordon recipe ( i did have most of the ingredients and only had to buy carrots thyme and rosemary) it felt good to follow a recipe as a one off without thinking how i could make it cheaper
3) have spent another QUALITY no spend day in the snow with the 4 kiddywinkles :T
4) have made up for the 'posh recipe meal' by batch cooking some soup for next week
5)am thinking since i have been awake since 2am this morning that i am actually going to sleep well tonight through sheer exhaustion! (it's pretty bad when this is something to be thankful for) :rotfl:I will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)
Card #2 £6. I will not be skint at Chistmas this year!
Total £560 -
