    Mine for today

1 Home made chocolate bread toasted with lots of butter on for breakfast

2 Walking on the school run with the sun shinning and the snow glistening. Until it started hail stoning!!!

3 Turkey curry from the freezer that I made just after xmas. I even melted in some stilton that was left over from xmas and it was lovely (sounds odd I know)

4 The house smelling of freshly baked oaty bread. So homely.

5 A really nice tea of fish pie made with pollock my lovely neighbour gave me after one of his sucessful fishing trips.

All that talk of food is making me hungry!! Good job I managed quite alot of walking today.

    Have a good evening everyone.

    Good evening all :snow_laug
Have lots of these snowmen up and down the street, as the school is closed also the teenagers have made a slide on the road!its a good job its so quiet here and they are able to have their fun in relative safety.
    # watching the children enjoying themselves, and hearing the peels of laughter from the tinies as their older siblings dragged them down the 'slide' in the middle of the street.
    # making a big pot of lentil and 'bottom of the fridge 'soup for tea with hm bread and real butter! Yummy!!
    # Loving my snowboots! i feel so much safer walking on the frozen snow in these instead of being frightened to go out in case i fall.Best money spent this year so far!
    # did more sorting out ths morning, have nearly a car boot full to take to charity once it thaws a bit[or a lot!]
    # all the cheap fleeces pinned up behind the curtains, my home is lovely and warm because of this os idea!
    stay steady on your feet!!

    Evening all,

Lots of snow here today, brrrrrr!

    1. Having a small M&S (petrol station one) near me. Was able to pop in there to get supplies. As well as a good butchers to pick up some bits.

    2. Filling up our food recycling bin with bones and bits. Better than going in the bin.

    3. Having a lovely bath this evening. Might make this a regular after work habit.

    4. Having a lie-in this morning.

    5. The Good Life being on TV now, must dash! :T

Going for a walk to the village shop in the snow this morning, without my sons (school closed) because DH was working from home. I bought some new camera batteries and took photos of the church and trees on the way home.

Discovering that the smaller wellies I rediscovered still fit DS2. (I can't for the life of me find mine though.)

Tuesday's leek and potato soup served 3 for lunch today which made it very economical. DS2 ate with gusto, then finished off the reheated sausage that his brother had. (He's generally got a sparrow's appetite - perhaps it was the three hours of snow-wall building this morning.)

Admiring some friends' seasonal photos on Facebook and more snowy scenes on the local news.

A bit of snowballing with the children in our road. Not intentionally - they all started on DH when he went out, so he shouted that he's pay "50p for a direct hit on my wife's bottom". I wouldn't have minded so much if he hadn't have added that the target was plenty big enough!

It looks as though our snow and slush is due to freeze hard tonight so roads will be dicey tomorrow. I'm hoping that my boys will be able to go in, as I'd aimed to spend three days preparing for tomorrow's interview and still haven't had chance. I'm supposed to have a haircut and the dentist tomorrow!
  • Hi everyone, had a really hard day today with my 8 week old son :o so feel I need to focus on the good things!

    1. Despite DS being VERY grizzly  today I did have a nice moment when I managed to settle him by dancing and singing to Queen full blast whilst he was in my arms - how he fell to sleep i'll never know!

    2. Enjoying having hubby home for an extra hour and half as he was allowed to leave work early today due to weather.

    3. Made the effort and made homemade chicken goujons, proper mash and salad for tea, it was delicious and helped use up the chicken in the freezer.

    4. Managed to get the morning and evening routine accomplished today, lovely going to bed knowing you have a clean sink and the living room is tidy.

    5. Feel blessed that even though we have 2 inches of snow (with more to come) that we are financially ok if hubby can't get to work and that we don't need to rush to the shops as we have a lovely store cupboard here!

Am throwing virtual snowballs at everyone :D. Haven't been out at all but getting on with work indoors.

    My five for Wednesday:

    1. My DSs have had a good time with the other children in the close (and some of the adults who have been rediscovering their childhoods from the looks of what has been going on ). They've collectively built a brilliant snowperson (that I think looks like a polar bear) that is at least 8 foot tall and needed a step-ladder to do the top bits. The snow has been packed so solidly and it's so big that I think it will be Easter before it melts. It has an upturned potty chair on its head as a hat. :D

    2. I've spent the day cuddling my hottie - haven't had a daytime hot water bottle before to keep me warm but now I think I'm hooked!

    3. Very good soya chunks and veg stew for supper. Discovered a few recipes back that you can marinade soya chunks in a heated mix of red grape juice, a very generous glug of tamari (or soy sauce) and herbs and they then taste really good in stew.

    4. Have unpacked a big basket-full of what I thought was going to be my spare knitting wool and discovered that it is mostly mending that I packed up before our move. There's all sorts of bits that are useful in there eg table cloths for darning, an old towel I've been cutting up and hemming for floor cloths and a old pair of baggy cotton trousers that I'm going to take apart to use as a pattern to make lots of new pairs. I've got material put away so it should cost me nothing. I'm glad to have found it, should keep me busy for a while.

    5. Cancelling all the events we should have been going to this week which would have been fun but it will give me more time for work and (very welcome this bit) money saved for the fuel and parking fund. Am feeling very pleased with myself about this week's spending (or lack of it) - another NSD today.

    Sweet dreams

    Today:

    1. My work being very understanding about me being stuck at home due to snow (I work 30 miles from home and couldn't even get the car out of our drive)

    2. DH and I putting on our wellies and plodding through the lovely deep and very powdery snow to feed our friends' cats (friends are on holiday and unable to get home till the weekend). Love an excuse to put my wellies on.

    3. Then plodding through the snow in the other direction into town where we went to the awesome local tea shop for hot chocolate and coffee and a slice of apricot and apple cake (not very OS or MSE but it was extremely tasty and a lovely treat)

    4. Making veggie soup just like my mum used to make when the weather was really cold.

    5. Watching the first episode of Band of Brothers, which I got DH for Christmas, and surprising myself by really liking it and can't wait to see the next episode.

    6. Watched four episodes of Come Dine With Me back to back while knitting a sock, hurrah! :rotfl:

Hope you are all safe and sound and taking great care in this weather, especially if you've got to drive.

    Evening all...

Have been stuck at home today because of the huge amount of snow, and will be tomorrow. My 5 for today are:

    1. Having a 2 hour lie in as no work thanks to snow!
    2. Walking into the village and enjoying seeing all the other people walking around being friendly.
    3. Seeing my OH dressed up looking like he was going on an expedition to the North Pole when in fact he was off for a ski!
    4. Eating jam sandwiches in a powercut by candlelight.
    5. Watching a freebie film off the internet thanks to the freebie board!

angeltreats band of brothers is amazing...have the box set and have watched it sooo many times - make sure you get the kleenex ready though!

Stay safe in all this bad weather people x

1 - not OS but rather essential - booked two flat viewings for Saturday morning!

2 - bulking out the last of yesterday's soup with some pasta and pancetta for lunch

3 - leftover pasta bake and jacket potato for tea

4 - (been a long time...) Scarf watch! Back on the knitting and my super scarf is now over 3 foot long :)

5 - drinking an ice cold and 50p bottle of Aspall cider. Yum yum!

    Take care everyone xx
