Good Morning :hello: - hope everybody spent last night safe and well in their own homes.

Broomstick - lovely to hear of your children enjoying the snow - sounds like when I was a child. I can remember running out of gloves, because they were all drying, and my nan having to resort to putting odd socks on my hands :rotfl:.
sparrer - wtg on getting your laptop back again :) - sorry to hear that you didn't escape the snow after all :(.
aplaceinthesun - wd on getting up-to-date with your work schedule BEFORE today - best be on the safe-side. lol at your dogs - whenever I see spaniels, they always strike me as being 'muck-magnets' - they're such smiley, playful dogs.
heavenleigh - I love the 'stolen hours' before everybody else gets up too . Wd on getting your slow cooker up and running early :T.
RainyWednesday - Good Luck with your plans for moving into your own place - hope it all goes smoothly for you :).
Penelope Penguin - What a great evening with all your flock home, settled round the fire and watching a dvd together :j.
Tealady - wtg on your 'using up' and great news about the train pass for dd's school - not much goes DOWN these days (apart from the temperatures ;)).

    Mine for today:

    1. Have rung dgd1's school and already found out that they're closed - so NOT going to wake her up. She can stay put for now, all snuggled up in my still-warm bed with our HUGE fleece Tiger Blanket over her as well.

    2. OH was relegated to the single bed in the spare room last night - but at least he had the OTHER huge Tiger Blanket over the top of the single duvet.

    3. No more snow overnight for us :j - just wondering what today will bring though . Round here we've got gangs of teen boys being aggressive with it, throwing at customers inside shops and aiming at elderly peeps when they can see them scared of falling - some families should need a license to breed .

    4. Just going to get my slow cooker on - will put diced turkey, onions, sliced mixed peppers and some beans on with a tin of chopped toms, crushed garlic and chilli powder.

    5. Just going to make myself a 2nd cup of coffee (cafetiere stuff ;)) to wake me up properly.

Hope we all have a safe, warm, happy day and that we're well-stocked to get us through till things thaw out a little. Let's all be aware of our nearest neighbours right now.

HSxmashug3.gif all round - speak again later - love Ollie xxx.

A quick 5 for yesterday, as I have promised DS2 that we will take the sledge out to the local hill!

    1. Snow started yesterday halfway through maths mock exam. The looks on the kids faces were great as they completely lost interested in maths work!!!
    2. Given permission to leave school early to collect DS2 from his school at 1.30pm. Soooooo pleased to be able to drive home in relative safety as sounds like DH had a dangerous journey in the evening!
    3. Magical walk in the snow with DH and very happy, but still smelly, Bernease Mountain dog who just loves snow.
    4. DD snowed in overnight at boyfiriends, but at least she is safe!
    5. Had one of the lasagnes I batched cooked at the weekend for tea tonight. Enough left over for lunch today as DD missed out:j

Will be spending rest of the day marking maths papers when we get back from sledging, but will try to squeeze in a few OS pleasures too!

    Stay warm and safe

    Dear all,

Hope everybody is ok with the snow, either tucked in warm with a nice cuppa or having a great time out there with the kids.

Reverbe, good to see you again and hope your situation will improve soon.

Has anyone got any news of Ampersand?

Here are my pleasures for today:

1 - Snow, knowing that DS is not suffering for it (see no.2) doing his paper rounds.

2 - He flew to Rome today with a friend, staying at my auntie for a couple of days and then traveling around Italy for a few more days. He arrived safe and sound and with only 1 hour delay due to snow. He was really lucky to leave in the early hours of the morning because a lot of airports are now closed because of the weather!

3 - My friend/colleague came here to do some admin work with me so I have now finished all the work for the day and am free to do my own thing!

4 - I treated myself to another 3 hours of cleaner, this girl is very good and not expensive, also willing to help me on an one-off basis - perfect!

5 - DD's BF just came up and asked me if it is ok for him to cook us Sunday dinner this weekend. Great because he is a good cook and he told me he has a vegan banana cake recipe that he wants to try out. Brilliant!

I hope that you all have a good rest of the day and that the snow does not inconvenience too much but brings joy and fun instead.

Hi, everyone, hope you're all well and keeping warm! A good few inches of snow here and the boss has closed the office, so I'm warm and snug at home with the cats.

    My 5 for yesterday:

    1. Delicious spicy pasta for tea. So many of my pleasures seem to revolve around food...:D

    2. Watching the snow fall - so pretty!:snow_laug

    3. Carrying on, slowly but surely, with decluttering the house, getting it ready to rent out in due course :T.

    4. A relaxing evening doing very little at home - I am normally a busy bee and I felt the need to have some down time, listening to music and surfing the internet ;).

    5. Anticipating that the boss would close the office...good to have it confirmed by text though! :j

    Hi All,

Mine for the last 24 hours are:

    1) Having yesterday afternoon as holiday and going into London to spend time with my parents and youngest brother.

    2) Having dinner with my parents, three brothers and Future SIL at a lovely Thai Restaurant. I had one of my favourite meals - Tom Kha soup (any recipes would be gratefully recieved!) followed by stir fried veggie noodles, and a pot of jasmine tea. Absolutely outstanding! It was also so nice to be altogether and to have such a fabulous final evening before my parents fly home tonight.

    3) Begin able to come home at lunchtime and work from home... I really should get my work laptop out and start typing up a report that I need to do today!!

    4) A beautiful drive home over the Downs.

    5) Not sure yet... though it might be my making some HM bread once my report is finished....
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

HI everyone -these are my five for today:

1 Sledging out the front with DS1 and DS2; what brilliant fun! All the other kids from the street came out too (although bit miffed that their parents left me to supervise them all!!)

2 Getting even more congratulations phone calls / texts / emails - everyone has been so kind and lovely with their messages; Bump is looking particularly huge today, I shall be taking all the pain relief I'm offered at this rate!!

3 Teaching DS2 about odd/even numbers; I had noticed that the Maths work he is given at school isn't very challenging so thought I would play a game to teach him something else - so we worked out if a certain number of sweets was odd/even and then shared them between the two of us; it took him about a minute to cotton on, really proud of him (he's bright with numbers, I wasn't being a pushy mum, honest!!)

4 Realising (again) just what a wonderful family I have and how brilliant DS1 and DS2 are going to be as big brothers (even though OH is working from home and driving me slightly mad today!!)

5 Beautiful thick snow everywhere I look; have taken some great photos which I hope to use as Christmas cards next year, despite having spent a small fortune on 1/2 price cards in Cancer Research ... never mind, they will keep till next year

6 Last nights chilli with an extra tin of baked beans and some potato wedges for lunch - very scrummy

7 Cutting into our delicious Christmas cake

8 Convincing OH that I needed a lie-down and rest this afternoon; and he brought me a cup of tea to boot, too!

Fingers crossed that we have another fine day in the snow tomorrow

    Best wishes to all

Acey you are so positive about your current situation; I hope you have a snow day and fab time with your little ones without any stress at all
  • 1) Our NHS. Went for a small test this morning and was greeted by some lovely smiley ladies who had probably had to struggle through deep snow to get to the Health Centre.
    2) DH drove me to the above (he's a saint) because it's easier for one to navigate and one to drive if it's somewhere new but he went off to work and I decided we had better stock up. Couldn't get my little car out of the street until two lovely nurses who look after our elderly neighbour gave me a push. So that's two awards for NHS staff today.
    3) Bought a pair of leather boots at Clarks for £35 in the sale. Just as my other ones started letting in water.
    4) Used a voucher to get £5 off my shopping when I went to the Factory Shop to get some new clear plastic boxes. Every year, I file our paperwork in one of these, keep it out for a year and then it goes in the loft.
    5) A slow cooker full of chicken korma for tea, and leftover cake from DS's birthday for pud, so no cooking today.

Its cold! We had about 5 inches of snow yesterday and a bit more overnight. None today but the roads are a mess (slush and snow) and its suddenly dropped to -5. I nearly fell over crossing the road to get to the village shop and I wouldn't dare go out in my car at the moment! Even if school is open tomorrow, I don't know if I'd risk skidding down the hill (its quite a big hill....)

Thank you, Bonty44 - I don't know about positive, more resigned to his shenanigans - I left him 5 years ago tomorrow!!!!!

    Anyway, 5 for today.

    1) Had a lovely dream last night! I dreamed I was about 6 and I had gone for a walk with my Dad and we had found a fox cub and I was allowed to hand rear it! I did grow up on a farm but nothing like that ever happened.

    2) Lots of excitement about the day off school. Sons combined forces with next door's sons and built a snow fort and had permission to go to the shop by themselves (next doors are older than mine) to get some party food. They came back with a right mixture but they had a "party", all squashed in my living room then played on the Wii.

    3) My Good Housekeeping arrived. My friend gets a subscription for me every Christmas.

    4) Quite enjoyed watching updates on the weather on News24.

    5) Hoping for an early night tonight (I always have good intentions).

Hope everyone has had a good day and managed in the cold.
