    Dear all

Here are my five for today:

1 Making a solar system mobile with DS1 this morning - showing him how to thread a needle so we can hang the planets up onto the wooden skewers craftily covered by starry paper
2 Spending absolutely no money at all!
3 Getting v. organised - sorting through clothes that won't fit me for a number of months; sorting out boys wardrobes and filling 3 big bags of 'stuff' for charity shop - can't be doing with clutter anymore, am I nesting already???
4 Going through boys artwork and putting it into folders for them; some really lovely memories there
5 Making that yummy lemon drizzle cake (can't wait to eat it!) and trialling a bagel recipe - will report back on the bagels after breakfast tomorrow!

Hope you've all had a really lovely restful day

Evening everyone. Wow it has been a mad few days! I'm now sat down for a few minutes with a cup of tea, safe in the knowledge that tea is prepped and ready to cook, and that I don't have to move tomorrow if I don't want to. Hope everyone has been ok.

    Five pleasures:

    1) Getting used to walking on the ice and snow. I take 2 buses to work and thankfully they have all run and stayed safe. Plus, I haven't gone over on the ice (yet) although there have been a few near misses. I'm pleased about that, and that while it is quite dangerous it is also very beautiful. The town I work in has some lovely architecture which looks really picturesque in the snow.

    2) Being encouraged by the Declutter thread to go through some old cookbooks and charity shop any I didn't want. I've another 2 or 3 to part with soon too, and my shelves are looking less strained. It's also encouraging me to cook new things as I'm finding the recipes I originally bought the books for. :)

    3) Sitting down in the warm. As I said, it has been a busy couple of days and the reward of sitting snuggled up under a blanket is great.

    4) I've gone about 4 or 5 days now without any fizzy cola. Instead, I'm drinking lots of tea and squash, and generally feeling better about it.

    5) Getting organised for Christmas/Birthdays this year. I remembered I had nearly a tenner's worth of Boots points so I went to see if there were any offers. They had a load of their gift range for Christmas on half price :D I managed to get 3 really nice presents for my points, and I've still got some left. It is the thought that counts, and quite a lot of thought has gone into them on all sides as to suitability and cost effectiveness ;)

Anyway, take care and stay safe everyone. (((hugs)))

    Hi all,

just back from the vet with Toupe. Poor little mite had his abcess lanced so it feeling a little sorry for himself. I am trying to coax him onto a blanket so that he doesn't bleed all over the carpet...

    1) Finding out the I got a 3% pay rise!! Very few people in the company got one, so I am chuffed that my hard work over the past year has been recognised. I feel bad for everyone else, and would happily have taken a smaller one if it meant that the rest of the department got one... but I don't make the rules...

    2) Toupe now looks less like a chipmunk and I am releaved it wasn't a tumor.

    3) Chatting to my mum on the phone. Usually we speak only ever 1-2 weeks when she is at home, so it's nice to just be able to call for a chat while she is here.

    4) Having a can of coke with lunch. Normally I don't allow myself fizzy drinks because of the high, empty calories and because then tend to give me a sore tummy... but today the tum was fine!

    5) Realising that today is Friday! and I don't have another day left of the work week :) Sadly the boss is back on Monday :(
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Mine for today:

    1. Putting my wellies on to go to Co-Op. Any excuse to wear my wellies, I love them!

    2. Getting my little car up the hills and through the snow when lots of other people nearby were still stuck. Yesterday morning Jim (that's my car's name) got up a steep hill that I saw another much bigger and posher car got stuck on and the driver and two other people had to push it. Made me very proud of my tiny little ten year old car!

    3. I made vegetable soup just like my mum used to make, with lots of pearl barley and lentils, and today DH and I had something I hadn't had since I was a child - soup with a big scoop of mashed potato dumped in it! I think it's a very Irish thing as I've never heard of anyone having it over here, but it made me feel all nostalgic and is extremely yummy - try it if you don't believe me.

    4. Related to 3 above - I discovered that I have wasted years mashing potato with a masher tool, when all this time I could have just dumped it in the Kenwood Chef and beaten it up with the K beater. Think it was the easiest mash I ever made and definitely some of the nicest.

    5. Spent a bit of time this afternoon going through all the cookery books I have from the library with some mini post it notes and marking all the recipes I really like, so I can scan them and keep them for later.

    6. Made flapjacks and for once they're not burnt and are very tasty, although you can feel your arteries hardening with every bite.

Kitchenbunny - I'm the opposite to you, I finally managed to get hold of some Tesco diet cola today after having none for ages due to being snowed/iced in, and it made me happy beyond belief! :rotfl:

Grandmasam - really glad to hear you had good news from the doctor :D

Ladyhawk - big congrats on your payrise!

Hope everyone is warm and toasty. Here are mine for today.
    1. DS and I cuddled up under a blanket wearing our pjs, watching the Secret Garden only 10 minutes after the trudge from school in ice and snow. He's only 4 and started full time school in September, so I hate having to drag him to school and back in bad weather - ho hum.
    2. DH has made huge pan of leek and potato soup for tomorrow.
    3. We're all at home for the weekend !!!
    4. Been playing with the new craft punch DH bought me for Xmas.
    5. Glad we're all safe and warm and toasty.
one extra enjoyed watching The holiday today while I did the ironing :)

    Evening all

I hope everyone is alright in this bad weather.

mine for today, hhhmm think i am going to struggle with 5 today, the men sorting out our collapsed drain had to give up after discovering they now have to dig up the pavement as well and i had to pick ds1 up from school early as they closed due to bad weather so walked in a blizzard (well, it felt like it!!) to get him. sorry, enough moaning!!!

1 A hot shower this morning. Our boiler isnt working properly so usually i flush the toilet and get 2 mins of luke warm water in the shower before it turns cold but today it was actually hot, just for those 2 mins but after numerous luke warm/cold showers it was bliss!!!!!

2 Doctors surgery fitting ds2 in for his swine flu jab. i only went to make the appointment and they took him in straight away so i can stop worrying about him getting swine flu. The other 2 arent getting the jabs but ds2 has breathing problems so have been quite worried about him getting it.

3 HM pizza that was lovely.

4 Making polar bears with dd this afternoon.

5 wrapped up in 3 blankets, crocheting a hat (trying to) and watching a film with dh.

back to my hat, i might need it if i venture out tomorrow!!!
  • Hope you are all safe and cosy. Here's mine

    1) My new breakfast of porridge made with water, topped with a spoonful of home made blackberry jam. It's the purpleness I love, as well as the taste.
    2) Writing. I know I'm on a course but I've started something for myself. Actually, it seems to be taking over my life.
    3) I'm only two pounds heavier than I was before Christmas.
    4) Went shopping today. Now, this is not my cup of tea. I hate shopping. However, I got some new work clothes, which I desperately needed. Usually, I go to the charity shops but nothing seemed to be coming up. (I think a lot more people are looking through them these days.) Anyway, I went to Marks for some lovely Per Una trousers and a tailored jacket and went to Primark for the tops to save money. I've used my allowance money and it does feel good to have limits, even if next month's has had to be sacrificed too.
    5) Quiet evening with DD. DH is still at work and DS is at his gf's for tea so we had a roast dinner and she is now altering a dress (very OS) while I type, both at the kitchen table.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Not too well today :( but here goes:-

    1) Watching my knitted scarf grow as I add more rows.

    2) Making a new recipe from Delias Christmas cookbook (pressie) Fenland celery and stilton soup using up christmas leftovers so almost a freebie! DH loves it!

    3) Freezing down 3 bags of mushrooms as I won't be able to use them before they go off.

    4) Toast and marmalade! Marmalade made by a friend for charity and half the cost of the expensive ones but much, much nicer!

    5) Catching up on the threads while on bedrest!
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

    Thanks for the wishes Caterina!

    My 5:
    1. Making Spam sarnies for DH to take to work.
    2. D M-i-l coming to the rescue and having DS2, who was poorly overnight and not fit for school today, so that I could prepare for my interview.
    3. Getting some very interesting questions and a chance to shine in one part of the interview - sadly I'd already flunked the task I reckon, so I'd be astonished if they were to offer me the job. Still, getting an interview like that was a boost to my confidence to start the new year.
    4. Finishing the interview ahead of schedule (probably not a good sign?) and managing to pick DS1 up from school. He was in fine form and had some lovely news for me about a pretty impressive academic achievement. I was so impressed that he insisted on waiting until we'd reached the car rather than telling me infront of all his friends and shouting about it. He grows up more week by week.
    5. Printing details of a couple more jobs I can apply for off the internet tonight ... got to keep plugging away!

I'm really looking forward to a cosy weekend at home with the family. Reckon I'll have to make some more leek and potato soup tomorrow!

    Stay snug and safe everyone.
