    Hi

    Mine for yesterday /today:

    1. Being very proud of DD, she helped an elderly man who had slipped on the ice to get up and then escorted him to where he needed to be plus when he offered her money for helping she refused and told him to use it for a taxi home so she knew he would be safe. :A
    2. Getting some more thermal vests 1/2 price as they seem to be doing the job
    3. Lovely chicken casserole for dinner all ready in the SC when I got in from work. Plus made with YS chicken that only cost 90p.
    4. Writing up some recipes from this site in my recipe folder (xmas present from SIL) no more pieces of paper cluttering up the kitchen
    5. Lovely lazy morning today but not must get myself in gear as have a mountain of ironing to do
  • It's snow again for me :D

    1. Building the snowman with all the family

    Hiya all

Hope you are all wrapped up well!! Cant believe how much snow we have!!

Ollie - that made laugh, sorry. but you are not alone. a few years ago I used to have the job of sorting out mobile phones for a company i worked for and someone dropped theirs down the toilet but once the phone dried out it was fine (thats how long ago - the phones were quite basic then), someone also left one in the freezer which also worked once defrosted!!

Tealady - what a lovely daughter you have.

Penelope - that snowman is ace!

    Right, mine for today

1 Another hot shower!! Thats 2 in a row. I must be doing something different than the last 2 weeks as i dont believe the boiler fixing fairies have been!!

2 Making mincemeat muffins this morning and ds1 and ds2 kept asking for more! Dont think they will be lasting long!

3 DH driving me to asda so I could stock up with milk and bread flour just in case i cant get out (or dont want to) for a few days.

4 Making rocky road and bread this afternoon. Gonna enjoy my rocky road tonight as a treat.

5 Getting 2 hours to sit down and crochet more of my hat this afternoon with the kids playing with walkie talkie's in other areas of the house!

    Thats all from me.

A few months ago a bottle of water in my bag came undone and drenched my year-old mobile. I took out the battery and sim, put it in a plastic container covered with dry rice and left it in the airing cupboard to dry out (the rice absorbs the moisture). 2 days later it worked and is still fine today. Thanks to DD for the tip :A

Scarf watch is beginning to grow in numbers (and inches), wonder whose will be longest? Hopefully the weather will improve soon so I can go out to buy the necessary bits to make one too

    My five..
    1. DNeighbour got me some fresh fruit n veg to save me going out :)
    2. Put a turkey drumstick in the sc with lots of veggies, curry sauce and extra water which will give me three/four meat meals plus a few bowls of warming soup
    3. Watching several episodes of The Good Life this afternoon and laughing just as much as I did when it was first shown...it's also given me some ideas for when the finer weather comes :D
    4. Started to clear out the dresser in the kitchen and I now have another box for car booting. By the time I've finished I might have enough cupboard space for all my kitchen equipment!
    5. While I was clearing out the dresser I found a beautiful milk jug behind a dinner service that only comes out once or twice a year. It made me think, I have these things because I like them so why am I keeping them hidden? The cheapo stuff will all go to car booting after the refurb and I'll be able to enjoy the nice things every day :j

Night night, stay safe and warm everyone

    My five pleasures for Saturday:

    1. DS2 spotting, this morning, that there was a police car by the house of the elderly lady he's been checking up on and dashing out to make sure she was OK (she was). DSs have been shopping, posting letters and path clearing for her all week and I think they've now made a new friend :D

    2. Deciding to drive for the first time in a week to deliver neice's birthday card & prezzie. Car started first time, scenery was beautiful, sun was shining, main roads were clear of ice. I was relieved to see that things were so much better than they had been, but even so, I don't think I'd want to risk driving on the main roads after dark at the moment.

    3. Deciding to treat ourselves to a few more bits of food in Mr S on the way home so got milk, ciabatta (all the bread that was left and we'd forgotten to bake a new loaf) and juice. I robbed the parking money we hadn't used this week to pay for it.

    4. Since there were no eggs to be found anywhere this week, my plans for egg-based meals have gone by the board. I decided to make celery, carrot, onion and potato soup tonight using up lots more organic veggiebox - really simple and soooo delicious. I defrosted some smoked salmon that we'd been given for Xmas (pack was too big so we ate some on 25th and froze the rest in portions) and we had it on ciabatta with cream cheese and black pepper. It was a very posh sort of supper - not bad for something that was unplanned!

    5. Early evening snooze in an armchair with a fleece thrown over. Think I might try for an early night tonight.

Sleep well, keep safe and warm.

    B xxx

Oh and another one I'd forgotten:

    6. DS2 appearing this evening to say he was going to watch the unwatched DVD of the Sound of Music (I'd picked it up mega-cheap as a pack of 4 DVDs some time ago) while he was tackling his ironing. We then got the giggles trying to work out the words for "The house is alive with the sound of ironing" etc etc - very, very silly. :D

    1. Climbing back into bed when I took a cuppa to DH this morning and dozing off, til he brought me a cuppa!

    2. Putting lots more food out for the birds and thawing the bird bath - then watching the numbers increase during the day. Lots of new visitors!

    3. Watching the Hairy Bikers on i-player while pottering in the kitchen this morning.

    4. Making another batch of leek and potato soup for lunch, with one of those part-baked ciabatta that I'd had on standby for Christmas.

    5. Remembering that I still have some Christmas gift money which I had set aside for baking things. I've had no interest in going into town whilst the weather is like this.

Had a reasonable day. I've been looking after my sons 24 hours a day (apart from a few quick visits to their father) since they broke up from school on the 17th December! Which is very nice, of course but.... I'm sure they could do with a change from me too!! So a lot of today has been spent dreaming up new ideas and challenges to give them to keep them amused....

    5 for today:

    1) Only light snow! About another inch on the 5 inches we had already. And it felt really warm this afternoon. Looked at the thermometer and indeed, it was lots warmer - a tropical -2 ! :-D

    2) One challenge we set ourselves was to sort through the art/craft boxes which we did and big son made a space rocket out of cardboard boxes. Then we went through the boxes of pencils (we each have a tupperware style box with pens, pencils, rulers, a rubber and glue in each, always to hand for quick drawing ideas!) and we sharpened each and every pencil. Strangely, sons really enjoyed doing that.

    3) Racked my brains for other ideas then remembered "Murder in the Dark". Were there ever any rules? We went upstairs with all the lights off and had a torch each and generally ran around screaming. Then they had to lie under my duvet while I crept up on them. We took that in turns, adding to the creepy factor by then creeping up with a dressing gown over our heads, using their toy microphone that makes your voice sounds echoey etc.

    4) Phoned my mum and set up an account for her with Mr T. Her road has been impassable (sp??) since Monday so we felt a bit mean expecting Mr T to try it but I'm sure he will not try it if it is still dangerous next Monday when we booked him. Mum lives in the next village from me, down a mile of single track lanes. And there's a hill to negotiate too. So she hasn't been out to buy any groceries for a week.

    5) Enjoyed watching Casualty tonight with a glass of damson gin. Both big cat and little cat have got fed up of the cold and are asleep on the sofa.

    L
P.S Tomorrow I have to tell the boys their father will not be picking them up on Monday due to "rule breaking" and have no idea how to explain it. :-(
  • Lovely to read all your posts especially the ones about your lovely, caring children, respect to them and their parents :)
Here are mine for today .
    1. hooray we were all at home and DH let me have a lie in.
    2. Made pancakes for brekky when I got up.
    3. Went to see in laws and told lovely FIL that I'll give him a Chinese burn if he makes himself poorly clearing the snow again - men !!!
    4. Shared a bottle of wine with DH whilst watching QI - Sandi Toksvig is sooo funny.
    5. Played out in the garden in the snow when we got home, in the dark :)
    6. Cheesy jacket spuds for tea.
    7. Hopefully a grocery delivery from Mr T tomorrow - yay !!
    8. Received a pair of slippes for DS from M & S for a pound today - thanks MSE forum !!

Evening all! A late post for me tonight, my days seem so busy and the daily visit to DM takes up a chunk (not that I mind at all). I am trying to keep positive and have found a few pleasure over the last couple of days as follows:

    1) DH & me leaving a surprise bag of coal and a bag of logs by DS1 back door. Bless them, because we hadn't told them we were leaving it , they kept it in their kitchen in case an elderly neighbour claimed it. They were thrilled when we phoned them later and told them it was theirs. We love giving them little surprises.

    2) Having DH home for an extra long weekend. He's on a four day week at the moment and although we definately could do without the drop in wages, I love having him around.

    3) Visiting DM and finding her resting down in the residents lounge. The first time in over 3 weeks! She looked very pale and tired, but it was so nice to see her amongst her friends again. We don't think this is any more than a very temporary respite but it certainly gave us some comfort.

    4) Taking a lovely long walk with DH and the dogs by the lakes. It was certainly a winter wonderland and blew the cobwebs away. We both felt so much better for the fresh air and the stroll and the dogs loved it.

    5) Having a lovely bowl of HM Potato and Onion Soup made in my new pressure cooker, with some HM bread, very comforting. Followed this with a totally unplanned short nap. Don't usually do this during the day, but have been feeling rather tired recently so it was rather nice.

    Keep warm everyone.

  • Well, it's been an odd day, as DH has been at work. They really should let him have days off sometimes! And I have his cold, so I haven't wanted to be seen in public. However

    1) We did have a lie in
    2) I opened the box of Thorntons that someone gave us for Christmas and I was going to save until Easter. No willpower. Shameful.
    3) Spent the afternoon under a blanket with above chocolates, a pack of tissues and my James Herriot book. It's got some beautiful photographs and I love the gentle stories.
    4) DD and I on our own again for tea so we got a ready meal (I'm sorry this was not OS) and had it with candles and a nice conversation.
    5) DD set up our home projector thingy, which has too many wires for me, and we watched DS's Harry Potter DVD and ate more chocolates.

I must add that this summer's blackberry vodka is extremely good for coughs. The rhubarb vodka is even better but the rhubarb itself is to be avoided. DS and DD are most amused.
