1 - roasting my first chook! Yes, I've never done a roast chicken before, though I've lived out of home since summer! But very proud of it :) can we all say RUBBER CHICKEN?! hehe

2 - Making a chicken pasta [granted, not totally OS as packet [tomato + marscapone] pasta - but very MSE as from approved food! Which the OH loved! [Even more of an achievement as I only used one leg in it! It was plenty, with a little sweetcorn in and cheese to top, with half a baguette each]

3 - having a NSD, and doing scratchies etc.

4 - hearing my mum say she was proud of me and how good i am with foody stuff. Really lovely.

5 - knowing I shan't be buying food at uni when I start back tomorrow after the christmas break, but shall take food in. :)
    On the up :D

Tiring but satisfying day today. My pleasures are

1 Cooked a Shepherds Pie for lunch with veggies with enough left to freeze. Got a phone call from DD1 and BF inviting themselves for lunch and there was still plenty for everyone. Very tasty too

2 Decided to use up left over peanuts, raisins and chocolate chips from christmas and made flapjack type oat bars with them. Delicious and enjoyed by everyone. DD1 has some left overs too which she has now passed to me with a request for some more!

3 Have been practicing my crocheting all weekend (seems to be lots of us trying to master this skill at the moment) and was delighted to make a baby bonnet/hat last night! When DD saw it today she loved it and asked if I could make one in HER size, so whilst they were here this afternoon made her a hat and I was so pleased/proud when she tried it on it looked great. She pinned a seed pearl broach on the fold back brim and it looked lovely!

4 Had a lovely unexpected day all together with lots of laughter, just chilling in each others company, I feel blessed with my family:D

5 Enjoyed Dancing on Ice (just watching results show now) glad for there to be something on that is enjoyable again.

    Have a good evening all

Loved the huge number of pleasures people have already posted today. Glad to see you again Reverbe! :hello:

    My five pleasures for Sunday:

    1. Lying quietly snuggled in bed for a bit longer this morning (so that nobody disturbed me because they didn't realise I was awake ;)) and doing sudokus.

    2. Admiring DS2's finished igloo - it has a proper entrance tunnel with a gargoyle on top and icicle aerials and a transparent slab of ice as a window. It's very sophisticated and just lovely.:D

    3. Spending a long time this afternoon helping DS1 with ideas about poetry analysis - sounds grim but it wasn't :D We both were enjoying each other's company a lot.

    4. Sharing a box of chocolate fingers with the children. Not OS or MS or HM but very welcome (Ha! I've found the reason to justify putting it here - it was bought from the little corner shop rather than Mr S!)

    5. Adding the end of week £1.45 from my purse to my savings for my £100 emergency cash fund.

    Stay safe and warm

    Evening all,

Hope everyone is staying safe and warm.
    My pleasures for yesterday/today are:
    1. Lovely evening out with OH to see Billy Connelly, he was very funny
    2. Using up the last of the christmas cheese for an easy lunch yesterday of cheese and biscuits followed by last of mince pies
3.Seeing the ice starting to defost a little,
    4. Lovely dinner of beef wellington this evening not very MS but as I did no cooking over christmas I had promised I would make it. Nearly had a heart attack over the price of the meat but still managed to get shopping in on budget with the help of a £10 off voucher.
    5. Trip into Windsor this afternoon and nearly sticking to my shopping list in Lakeland. Only bought one extra thing (but this was in the sale). I was drooling over all the nice things in there much to DD's embarassment.

Reverbe - Don't know if you have a lakeland nearby but they had hotwater bottles in a lovely satin cover for £3.99

1.Watching lots and lots of birds coming into our garden in search of food, including a flock of long-tailed tits which seemed to peck away busily at every bit of old foliage in search of flies and spiders. Word must be getting around!

    2. The thaw. We were expected to get more snow today but it didn't amount to more than a few very insignificant flurries. The temperatures rose and there's a lot of water around. I do hope that the Severn won't flood as a result.

    3. DH took my place pottering in the kitchen this morning, which I found quite unsettling at the time (I like to listen to the Archers omnibus and DID on Sunday mornings). But he'd prepared roasties, veg and stuffing for our evening roast and meatballs for one evening this week.

    4. Looking forward to getting 'back to normal' tomorrow, finally, after Christmas. My boys had only been back at school for a few hours before parents were 'advised' to pick them up again and when they went on Thu/Fri I was busy trying to get a job. I'm actually looking forward to housework tomorrow!

    5. I drove out to the supermarket just before they closed and got a few minor bargains, then stopping at 'mini-Ts' and getting a couple more.

Here's to a good week, one and all.

    Today:

    1. DH cooked roast chicken. He's a very limited cook but he's done this a few times and it's got better every time, and his roast spuds were fantatic! So nice to put my feet up for the day and have dinner cooked for me.

    2. Made a batch of scones and one of them turned out to be a mutant! It rose so high that it collapsed sideways and looked really very strange. We had a good giggle at it.

    3. Our friends who had been stranded in Prague due to the weather, flights being cancelled etc finally made it home late last night. So happy they are finally back home, it's been very stressful for them.

    4. Got out my calligraphy stuff and spend a few hours today practicing my copperplate. I'm very rusty because I haven't done anything since September but I'd forgotten how therapeutic it is. I've left it all out so I can pick it up again tomorrow.

    5. Dancing on Ice is back on TV, hurrah!! :D

    6. Going to Hobbycraft today for some envelopes and not having to de-ice the car. So, so nice to just be able to open the door, turn the key and drive off without having to put the heaters on and start spraying and scraping.

    and an advance one:

    7. Getting back to work tomorrow after three days of being snowed in. I've missed the company of my lovely workmates.

Hope everyone is well and has had a lovely weekend.

Scotrae - my sons were at school 20 minutes last Tuesday! I hope they'll get back to normality tomorrow.

    Well, 5 for today.

    1) A little bit warmer! There was light, dusty sort of snow on and off but a bit of a thaw. At least, the snow fell off the trees and melted on roofs. Still deep on the fields. It did reach 0 degrees and that is such a difference from -5 or worse. At 0 you can think about enjoying going for a walk!

    2) Explained to my sons about the ex not seeing them for a while. Of course, this is not a good thing, but the way they reacted to it was fine. I said "You know the judge writes down rules and Daddy and I have to stick to them? Well, just recently, he has found it quite hard to keep to the rules". Big son (unprompted) immediately came out with 3 ways the rules had been broken. I said the ex would not be able to see them until he had been to see the judge, said sorry, and the judge had told him the rules again. I was expecting some sort of upset or outburst, but nothing.

    3) Made quite a nice chicken curry for tea but realised I had run out of rice! So we had to have it with mashed potato.

    4) Boys had a pyjama day and watched television, played on the Wii and so on. And I found the easel in the playhouse and brought it in, defrosted the chalks from where they'd frozen to the little tray thing and they played with that.

    5) Got the school bags, PE kits etc ready and polished their shoes. Again...

    3. The currified turkey was so good, I had a big bowl of the soup for tea with some hm brown bread. Yummmy!
    4. I won £80 on a bingo game this evening, I can't believe it as I never win anything! It's going toward my 'Turn £100 into £10,000 by the end of 2010' forum challenge...only I cheated cos I didn't have £100 to invest so I knocked off some noughts and turned mine into '£1 into £1000' :rotfl:
5.Dancing on Ice and Wild at Heart back again :T

Morning everyone, my 5 for today are.

    1. Sitting drinking hot choc and eating hm crumpet, and watching snow melting. Have really enjoyed this cold snap........ hoping to see the back of it now.:j

    2. Made crumpet mix last night for breakfast this morning, have to say really pleased with the outcome. H Bikers inspired me to try.:money:

    3. All washing, drying, and ironing up-to-date, used the timer method yesterday to get through it, bit by bit, just wasn't in the mood. Well it's done now.:D

    4. Son didn't get in to his 1st choice of uni, so we are going to take a look at 2 of his other choices that have made him offeres. Durham and warick. I have never been to either, so looking forward to those visits.

    5. Local farmers market was closed this week because of the snow, so running a bit low on fruit and veg at the moment. Trying to last out until Fri Belfast market.Fingers crossed.

Have a great os day:A, big fat hugs to all who need them. Hi Reverbe, i agree with you over snow clearing, i was the only person to clear a path to my door for the postman etc . He was so pleased he rang my bell to tell me. Love BTx

Good Morning all  - looks like our thaw is definitely kicking in now - there's been no more snow and things are getting 'drippy' - but still treacherous underfoot and the middle of side-roads and STILL no signs of a rubbish/waste/recycling collection.

Reverbe - good to see you back with us again and great that your Lovefilms are getting delivered :T.
Kittikins - hope things aren't too bad for you and DD on your way to school today :).
house elf - your dog walking sounds lovely - those disused railway line cycle paths were such a great idea :j.
artydoll - I'm sure your cats will soon be happy to be able to go outside for a good old prowl around :).
FunkyFairy - wd on decluttering your cookery books and children's clothes - now lots of space for some more :j.
Caterina - sorry to hear you've been so down - HShugs211_32276.gif for you and your DH.
Ladyhawk - wd on your lovely family get-together :T.
sallypurple - welcome to our lovely positive thread . wd to you and your dd for looking after the birds - they really need our help at the moment .
mineallmine - wtg on your continued de-cluttering :j.
savingforoz - wtg on your HM Spicy Lentil Soup and on your extra star :T.

scotrae - wtg to your OH on cooking the sunday lunch :j.
angeltreats - wow another OH cooking lunch - can I send mine to you please - he needs to be taught and I've given up with him :(. wd on getting back into practise with your calligraphy :T.
ACEY - such a shame that your ex-OH can't behave himself where access to the boys is concerned - but well done to you on how you've explained it to them - actions/consequences.
sparrer - I got a Turkey Drumstick yesterday for £1.47 - not sure why though, as that WAS the price printed on the label - all the same size/price. wd on your bingo win :T.
bunny too - sorry your son didn't get into his first choice Uni - but hope that he finds Durham or Warwick to his satisfaction.

    Mine for yesterday:

    1. Great trip to Asda - oh the sense of freedom of getting out of the house at last :j.

    2. Some great bargains to be had including potatos for 10p for 2.5kg - ordinary Asda ones NOT SmartPrice. Lots of whoopsied bakery bread and cakes though no branded bread reduced. Also restocked on Baked Beans, tinned tomatoes, dried butterbeans, soup&broth mix, lentils, fruit and veg.

    3. OH met me in the cafe afterwards to help me home with my haul - taxi needed.

    4. Phone call from DS2 - could he bring the dgs's for tea as his g/f was trying to get some sleep before going on night-duty and the boys were a bit noisy in the house. Luckily I'd made HM soup and we all had it with whoopsied crusty bread - apple doughnuts and ice cream for afters.

    5. OH and I sat and watched 'Dancing on Ice' - one of the few programmes that we watch together.

Hope we all have a safe and warm OS day - speak again later - love Ollie xxx
