Hi all, warm hugs to all that need them.
Here's mine for yesterday:
1. Watching two magpies under the tree in the close try and sneak some bread crumbs from under a seagull's beak.
2. Finding out of date opened pack of ground almonds, a few walnuts and adding some oats and putting it out on the snow for if the magpies return.
3. Finally getting the car out and finding the main roads fairly clear.
4. Visiting the inlaws for a cuppa and a chat.
5. Baking banana and chocolate bread and it being edible even though it didn't seem to want to rise very much.
6. Booking an online shop (in the hope that they will be delivering tomorrow) and realising I've probably got enough money to last till payday (unusual for January but we didn't get paid early in December this time).working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Happy New Year OSers! Hope you are all well and happy. Not been on for a bit, mainly because I mostly get online at work and between holidays and snow I've not been on much.
This weekend had some lovely OS things...
1. Reading Darina Allen's 'Forgotten Skills of Cooking' (bought with Christmas Amazon vouchers) and getting so inspired to forage and grow and cook all sorts of things - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Forgotten-Skills-Cooking-time-honoured-recipes/dp/1856267881/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263208471&sr=8-1
2. Cooking Pinto Bean Cassoulet - http://southernfood.about.com/od/pintobeans/r/r80401h.htm - with some of the contents of cupboard and freezer including reduced chicken, and chorizo bought on holiday in Spain - delicious! (edit, figured out that with the reduced stuff and homegrown garlic etc, this cost us about £5 for six servings - not bad!)
3. OH making lots of bread (he got a new recipe book too) - he is very good at it!
4. Seeing the thyme seedlings I planted last week starting to sprout and planting some mixed leaves for indoor mini salad
5. Starting to knit squares for a blanket - might be ready for next winter :rotfl:Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Tiring but satisfying day today. My pleasures are
1 Cooked a Shepherds Pie for lunch with veggies with enough left to freeze. Got a phone call from DD1 and BF inviting themselves for lunch and there was still plenty for everyone. Very tasty too
2 Decided to use up left over peanuts, raisins and chocolate chips from christmas and made flapjack type oat bars with them. Delicious and enjoyed by everyone. DD1 has some left overs too which she has now passed to me with a request for some more!
3 Have been practicing my crocheting all weekend (seems to be lots of us trying to master this skill at the moment) and was delighted to make a baby bonnet/hat last night! When DD saw it today she loved it and asked if I could make one in HER size, so whilst they were here this afternoon made her a hat and I was so pleased/proud when she tried it on it looked great. She pinned a seed pearl broach on the fold back brim and it looked lovely!
4 Had a lovely unexpected day all together with lots of laughter, just chilling in each others company, I feel blessed with my family:D
5 Enjoyed Dancing on Ice (just watching results show now) glad for there to be something on that is enjoyable again.
Have a good evening all
x[/QUOTE Oh dear, I have so many crafts to get on with, but reading how you are all enjoying crochet I just HAVE to have a little project on the go too0 -
Hi all, warm hugs to all that need them.

Ooh, lucky magpies:D It's nice to know that our frugality can even benefit the birds0 -
1. Not having to brave the outside as lovely neighbours are doing the school run both ways for me
It's soooooo icy out there, even walking past the car to take DD to neighbours scared me, hate feeling so scared!
2. DD being very excited about going back to school today, she slept like a log last night as I reminded her that she's a full-timer now and would need to be full of energy, so she took me seriously!
3. Getting back on the diet waggon today, have been so bad since Wednesday!!
4. Keeping the heating off, am sat working on the sofa with a duvet wrapped around me, but will put it on when DD comes home this afternoon (unless I crack before then, it's a balmy 13 degrees in the sitting room at the moment!)
5. Anticipate today to be another NSD, I will get to 10 for the month, I will, I will!!
6. I was very surprised that my car insurance renewal with Mr T was actually cheaper than being a new customer with all the same details! No chance of Qu*dco cashback, but having done some comparisons, they are still the cheapest provider for me. Hooray! Still blooming expensive but hey, a girl's gotta drive0 -
My pleasures today are:
- Had a great bird watching day today – got the whole office involved, we saw loads of red wings and a fieldfare and a mystery bird!! Looked like a stripy sparrow and had us really scratching our heads (turned out it was a meadow pipit!!) super cute!
- Snow is melting which is good cos its all getting rather tedious plus weve had a few falls and bumps in the office so not good
- Glad our cars started with no problem all through the cold weather – cant tell you what a relief it is after having years of cars that would be touch and go in this weather – so nice to know that I can rely on my car!
- Hew carpet was laid in the spare room over the weekend and it now feels like our home belongs to us – not the cowboys who lived their before us! Plus it feels super snug and I managed to knock £85 off carpet right’s quote by doing some MSE bargain hunting – must leave good checkatrade review though!
- Love new (free) haircut, feel like a have new hair, last few weeks ive been spending hours counting the split ends, now I feel like a new model!
- Lost 2lbs this week through free WW subscription (thanks MSE!)
)

Hope everyone is keeping well and warm on this grey day.
My pleasures recently:
1) A bit more decluttering of the wardrobe. I've decided that if I buy anything new, something has to go to make room for it. I managed to declutter 6 items.
2) The lovely smell of HM bread baking in the kitchen. I hardly every buy bread now.
3) The snow is melting, so hopefully I won't slip over anymore (twice so far) -bit sad really though, because it has been really beautiiful. The lakes near us were completely frozen over and there were loads of different animal/bird tracks in the snow. DH spotted a beautiful pair of large birds in our garden but was too late with his binoculars to identify them properly.
4) Feeling a little more positive than I have been recently and deciding that I have so much to be thankful for including:-
5) Getting a nasty stain out of my hearth rug with white vinegar. My rug was a lovely cream wool but the stain had really set and was annoying me. Anyway it's gone now thanks to white vinegar.
Have a really nice day everyone.Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

Hi Everyone,
reading all your posts has turned a quick break for lunch into rather a long lunch hour!
Yesterdays 5
1. Finding some of my fave perfume online. Its discontinued, so I ordered 2 - one for my birthday and one to put away for next Xmas!! (Saves DH having to think of something!).
2. Lamb stew made in the slow cooker was a big hit with all the family and only cost £2 using YS lamb!!
3. Popped into Mini Mr S on the way back from dropping DD at swimming. Used MOCs to buy some reduced stuff and felt like I had shop lifted it, it was so cheap!!!!
4. Finished another big piece of admin for work. Feel virtuous!:j
5. Cosy evening knowing that all kids are at home and safe. Teenagers are such a worry!
Glad to see there are lots of Lakeland fans on here. (My friend says it gives my age away because I call it Lakeland Plastics!). Anyone ever been to their HQ store in Cheshire? When I was a SAHM I used to hitch a lift with DH when he went up on business and I would look at all the shiney things while he did his meeting. Then we would have lunch in the wonderful cafe........those were the days!:(0 -
:rotfl:at houseelf - I call it Lakeland plastics too!
Mine today -
1) One final snow day with my girls at home - I love having them around and spending time with them :p:o
2) Making a hot cross bun loaf in the BM - the smell was amazing
3) Taking it down so we could all share it with my neighbour and her kids, eating it still hot with lots of butter - very slimming
4) Doing my first flylady and finding my living room floor, who knew housework could be fun?
5) Watching smallest dd's excitement at finding her gerbil can eat an entire toilet roll tube in less than 10 mins:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I can't get excited over the snow melting - I've actually enjoyed being stuck in so much - it's so cosy and I can't spend money!
Hope you are all doing okay, take care all, Sally xx:snow_laug HM Christmas 2010

Hiya all
sallypurple - can you point me in the direction of the receipe for the hot cross bun loaf please?
Mine for today:
1 After months and months of trying to find a lipstick colour i like, i decided to mix 2 colours that i dont like on me that i was going to give away or throw out (brown and bright red) and have now got the perfect colour!!
2 Putting the £1.77 left over from last weeks food budget into the jar this morning! :T
3 Spending all morning [STRIKE]playing[/STRIKE] tidying the kids tower of doom and dolls house and popping onto flylady and doing todays cleaning so i have a nice tidy living room.
4 Finally now that the snow has gone i have cleaned up the patio, just needs scrubbing when i buy another broom as my one has mysteriously broken (i think dh used it to stick down the drain to try to unblock it!!)
5 The drain men finished redoing our drain, they sorted out the driveway paving as well (around the drain cover) and unblocked the drain at the side of the house AND they cleaned it all and put down disinfectant which has saved me a job, i was going to clean it all tomorrow.
Right then, best get our leftover pork in the oven or we will never get tea.
Hope everyone is alright.0
