5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

1) Friend has texted and invited me round for soup at lunchtime tomorrow.
2) Dividend from some old shares came in yesterday.
3) Date with DH this evening at our favourite curry buffet place. It was so good. It wasn't MSE at all but it's ages since we went out in the evening. A sign of the times, I'm afraid.
4) Now sitting under a home made crocheted blanket. They have so many 'holes' it seems impossible that they're going to be warm.
5) DS handed me some money from his part-time job to pay into the bank. I'm really proud of him.0 -
Hugs to you savingforoz how terribly sad. Your friend, her family and friends must be devastated. I hate this evil disease so much for all the pain and sadness it brings.
Hugs VJsmum, hope things improve for your Dad. You're absolutely right to go and visit him tomorrow, always family first and work can wait
Ladyhawk you'll be fine! As Kittikins said they go to the loo same as you (well not quite if they're male). You may not be able to do their jobs but they couldn't do yours and are no doubt just as in awe of you as you are of them
Chicken what a very sensible Mr Chicken! It'd be much easier to pour salt water from a jug than try to do it separately - especially on a windy day :rotfl:
Welcome back to the fold ampersand. Only a few more days before you fly, how exciting! I must say your version of head banging is far preferable, it should be theirs of course!
ninoodle I don't see why you couldn't try Mr Chickens method on a small patch as a test area. The only thing I can think of against it is it may discolour the bark?
hakeber when I worked with older people the fire service came to do a regular evacuation drill, and all the ladies were extremely smartly dressed and made up on the days they came!
oldtractor lemon and ginger is my very favourite tea. Well along with Lady Grey and green. It really is yummy, but can't afford it too often so it's a nice treat to have occasionally
CCP your #1 made me smile, must have been a real cringe moment for the manager
1. DD and DS birthdays today, fun texts and facebook messages back and forth between here and Lancs where DS lives.
2. Was running late so forgot to take DD the flowers I bought yesterday, then the cash point wasn't working, and when I reached her house she couldn't offer me a cup of tea because the water had been cut off! So we went out and had a nice lunch
3. Postie brought me a letter from the landlord telling me the outside of the house is to be painted (well the door, the windows are upvc) in the coming months. Something I could do myself but if they insist, they're welcome to do it!
4. Super meeting of the fellowship this evening, over 40 people attending and an excellent speaker
5. Very grateful to hear I'll be getting a cold weather payment as it's been so bitterly cold. I do allow for heating but it's always just that bit more expensive than I hope it'll be.
Sweet dreams

PQ, thanks so much for the tip off about Genius bread. I found it on the shelves in Mr S today and had a good read of all the labels. The last load of wheat free stuff I found had buckwheat flour in it and buckwheat brings on asthma type symptoms in me so it's good to find a bought bread without. I think I'll give it a try the next time I go shopping.
Mhagster, oooh 'blether', like 'dreich', that's another word I like very much and heard for the first time when I lived in Scotland.:D
hakeber, that firemen/free alarms/sitting in the fire engine deal is a fab one isn't it! During the fireman's strike 13? years ago, DS1 drew our local firemen a lovely picture of an engine and we took it to the station for them. I got chatting with them about smoke alarms and next thing I knew they turned up with some and fitted them for free while DSs enjoyed the engine parked outside. Really lovely.
VJsmum, (((hugs))), hoping your dad improves quickly. I'm glad you can see him tomorrow.
savingforoz that's so sad. (((Hugs))) to you too and strength to you, your friend and her family.
Ladyhawk, I'm sure you'll be fabulous.:D
My five pleasures for Wednesday:
1. Because I was feeling so ropey this morning I didn't go and do half the things I'd intended but stayed in bed.
2. Heard that a friend of DS1's has been offered a Cambridge University place.:T
3. Meals planned for almost the next two weeks based on the veg box food in the fridge. If I'm lucky I may not even need to shop for anything other than milk in the next fortnight. I've cancelled next week's veggies and done a supermarket shop for nearly two weeks worth of meals. The money off voucher from Mr S today will mean that I won't even have to pay for the milk next week either.
4. Got the script envelope weighed and stamps bought so, when I've written the covering letter that needs to go in with it (a job that didn't get done this morning) I can post it tomorrow. And I topped up the phone, topped up the fuel in the car, got a couple of things from Lakeland and more printer ink and did all the other non-food shopping for the rest of the month.:T
5. And to say thank you to myself for being amazing and getting all this done I allowed myself couple of little 'fudge' bars.
Sleep well

I haven't managed to catch up on this thread
1. Met a friend for coffee at her house - who I haven't spoken to in ages.
2. Took lunch to work - an odd mixture which I had 30 secs to prepare.
3. DS2 packing for his holiday without asking where is this every few seconds.
4. Managed to fill in proformas at work and email them without help.
5. A NSD0 -

VJsmum - Hope your Dad is feeling better today, hugs to you
SavingforOz - so sorry to hear about your friend, hugs to your friend and to you.
Kittikins - Glad your back is getting better, take care of yourself and don't over do it.
Broomstick - I loved your No.5
Pleasures for yesterday,
1. DD having a very informative day at a careers fair and coming home with lots of freebies, that's my girl.
2. Getting an email from the people I am doing a focus group for next week to say as it will last 15 mins longer and have to do a tasting will get paid an extra £5. Woohoo, need to get more work from these people.
3. Organising our work lunch club for next week. H's partner is a chef and is cooking curry for us. I'm going to make carrot cake muffins. Work is suddenly become a good place to be on a Monday.
4. Also organised to go for a walk at the weekend. Need to start training for the Moonwalk later in the year.
5. Chilli Beef wraps for dinner followed by yet more birthday cake.
Hugs to all who need them.0 -
Ladyhawk - best of luck with your conference!
savingforoz - I am so sorry to hear of your friend. Really awful news. Huge hugs x
VJsmum - fingers crossed for your dad too - hugs to you too x
Millie - I tried the upside down toast - it's a revelation! It totally works!
Broomstick - hope you feel better today!
Mine for yesterday:
1. My Tesco tokens arrived for restaurants and cinema
2. Also some freebie face mask sachets. They will be maybe good as little presents (as part of beauty hampers) or I might keep them for my Big Bath nights
3. My copy of Which magazine also arrived with £15 John Lewis vouchers. I cancelled my subscription and am delighted I only paid £1! Thanks to MSE.
4. Made apple and carrot muffins. I was going to make blueberry and apple muffins but the blueberries had started to go mouldy (that will teach me to use them up quicker!) and we had a load of carrots to use up. I found this recipe when I googled carrot apple muffins. They were absolutely delicious - a totally nice surprise!
5. Lovely cuddles with my cats today0 -
LadyHawk really good luck for the conference
VJsMumm I have everything crossed that your dad improves, the parental role seems to reverse as we get older.
SavingforOz, there aren’t really words I can find, it’s so so sad, she has a wonderful friend in you.
Yesterday
Received my first ever clubcard vouchers through for £11,
DH picked up 2 10p rotisserie chickens, that’s us set for a few days, except for the realisation today that I now have to cook it up again properly as I remember hearing about bacteria multiplying etc?
I can’t wait for our first pay packet in a long time thou it is still quite a way off I have pinned the credit card statement that same through today to the wall, and when I am paid, it is going going gone, I feels great but it’s still about a month away huuurrrmpth!
Today
I didn’t wake up until 11am but I woke up at various points in the night for painkillers and or night nurse.
Tea lots of tea feels like a lovely pleasure to be warm and is helping the infection, well it feels like it is.
Watching the birds on the feeders
Cuddles with the animals
Just made chicken sandwiches, and set the chicken curry cooking for tonight
Updated with I have just had a package delivered of Hush puppy yolanda boots, they were half price and another 20% off an I am desperate for boots to go with skirts, and as I have a bad ankle i.e. one full of metal work they have to be good supportive boots and these are just amazingly comfortable wow so happy!I know it sounds silly but because of said ankle I can never find boots that are comfortable. little things.
And resting and sleeping, and repeat.0 -
PK - I completely understand your joy with the boots, although the metal was taken out of my ankle a while back (and will go back in again at some point, grrr). Trying to get shoes and boots that are comfortable is very difficult.0

Hi everyone - things are very busy here so I'm cramming in a short post while I can. DH isn't back from work yet and as it's snowing, I'm worrying about him. And getting to and from work tomorrow, naturally. Can't really think of many pleasures but here goes:
1. I'm still sticking to my shopping list and am hoping to come in under budget for once.
2. We've got toad in the hole for tea.
That's about it. Take care everyone and keep warm.
