An apology - everything I'm writing, including em's, are just disappearing again. This was gutting for 2 posts here and I am now v.up against time limits.
Will try again at some point, but may not have time before I leave.
A beautiful white world, bright sun day again....but how will it be @ Heathrow on Monday? :-)
A note: I managed to be leaving a Cambridge P&R last night as the salt-crystal-not-flakes began to fall. Stopped at Care Home/Hospice at top of villlage, snow falling thickly now, to leave small lemon curd and raspberry jam for JH, great author, educator[great Cambridge honours, but blessedly gave his life to village college, ending as Warden],field and countryman who writes for our village mag each month....we've had em/book/note exchanges over several years now. I was not going to see him - he'd had a rough day last week - only to have 2 nurses, one male and one female, in tears and sobbing when I asked them to leave this little bag and note....
    7.14 p.m. the night before.
-and today is so bloody beautiful outdoors - a countryman's glory day.
I amended card, left all at house.
It is a wound, deep, that I shall not be here to say Goodbye.

Bon courage à tout et à tous.

Ampersand - Hugs to you. Heathrow at the moment has a little snow but not too bad, hope it continues like this over the weekend and you have a fantastic time in NZ.
  • Hi All and Happy Friday!

I've just joined the DFW daily but like this thread too - think its important to see the glass half full so will focus on adding to this thread too

    Five from Yesterday:

    1) Went for short walk to get rid of my headache and it worked :)

    2) Won a free voucher - gonna save them up for later this year

    3) Fixed my phone (well it fixed itself)

    4) Had a tasty home made supper

    5) Drove the car for first time in a week

Hope everyone has a decent day - see you tomorrow... :money:

Welcome bitybit you've found the best place to be, keep coming back to list your glass half full pleasures :)

Morning all, just a brief one cos a few of us have been losing posts.
I have two methods to overcome this as I've hit the wrong button so many times
    1. Type your 5 in Word or whatever you use. You can open the 5OS page so you can see what's been posted and you can reply if you want to before listing your 5, then copy/paste onto the thread
    2. Open the thread, start to type, and every few lines hit 'Preview post'. Then if you do lose anything it's only what you've typed since you last previewed. ( I also hilight and hit alt/c just in case it disappears, then I can paste if I need to)
    hth

Have a great day, stay safe and warm
    S :)
  • ampersand - safe journey x

Millie - thinking of you and GSD - gutted for you xx

VJsmum - onwards and upwards for your DD

server was down yesterday so here are my late entries

    1. Briefly popped in to the office for an hour and spent the rest of the day on a site visit. I prefer being out and about.

    2. During the site visit a lady who has an advanced dementia type illness and does not communicate verbally , came up to me whilst I was sitting doing some work and gently touched my shoulder . I said "would you like me to move?" and a brief twinkle came in to her eyes and she made an "hmm" noise at me , naturally I moved away from the seat . That little "twinkle" made my day, the essence of the person had not quite been lost to the illness .Sparrer I think you would understand just what I mean .

    3. Finished on time and don't work on a Friday so it is the weekend for me :rotfl:

    4. OH made enchilladas for tea.

    5. The hens were waiting for me by the back door when I got home from work.

I will be back later with 5 for today .

:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A

Millie - So sorry. I hope GSD picks up soon and they get to the bottom of what it is. Hugs to you x

VJsmum - great to hear more positive news about your dad :)

    Bitybit - welcome :)

Ampersand - have the best time in NZ. I would love to go there.

    1) Posted plumber cheque in plenty of time so could use a second class stamp (need to buy more 2nd class stamps before they go up)
DundeeDoll, WH Smith are selling them with 5% off at the moment for 4 x 12 and free delivery if you haven't heard already :money:

    Mine for yesterday:

    1. A beautiful big bottle of perfume arrived that I got via MSE as a total bargain. A great one for the present stash. (Although I need to calm down a bit on the present stash - I have gone a bit mental. And I don't have as many girls to buy for as I do boys - and they're the hardest to get presents for!)

    2. My mum called and I had a lovely chat with her and my brother.

    3. Managed another small run in the evening. The fog was so thick I could only see about 3 feet in front of me. I could hear hundreds of geese in the fields but couldn't see them!

    4. Had a nice shower listening to classical music. I first discovered this pleasure when camping in Ireland. We had camped all round Ireland, it was the last stop in Donegal, and the campsite was brilliant. A 'proper' campsite, getting as close to nature as possible, no caravans - only tents, and no nasty cramped showers that charged you €1 for 2 minutes. The showers were open-air wooden cubicles so you showered under the stars and they had classical music and opera blasting out. It was fantastic! :D Not everyone's cup of tea I am sure, but definitely mine!

    5. Another £5 Amazon voucher from last weekend's trade-in offer arrived via email.

........as I idle, waiting for another call back
[At this rate, will I even get into loft to fetch down case, let alone weigh it before lading in order not to transgress limits.etc.etc.]
.....Crikey, just remembered Dr's appt @ 15 heures. The Archers are still on so I'm okay.
    #########
I am as you can see....scattered, zillions not quite being finished - all 'work in progress', all over the shop.

'warmth and sun' mhagster? - 30C in Whangarei this morning says D via Skype. Bring it on for me!
I'm in Sydney 15 Feb for a few hours, so will wave at you from transit lounge in some direction. Will you orient me by hanging a sassy pair of red knicks or similar on line[you do do many loads of washing, we see]and I'll wave at those.

ninnoodle - everyone is welcome to join me vicariously.

sparrer - yes, there are a lot of lost posts lately, but when I've attempted all my usual failsafe insurance procedures, much as you detail, that's when I've been getting the slow peeling up from bottom of page white-out.....can't even bear writing it down.....AND EVERYTHING GOES. Have to shut down and reboot.

chicken - your no. 2. I had a wonderful experience on Tuesday of last week which had sth of this about it. I'd written it here, needless to say, so excited was I to be back on net. Guess what/where....fume fume. If I could put 2 pics of said Lady[yes, upper case 'L' and self, I would]. Extraordinary encounter - began when I saw her struggle with trolley chez Mr T. en bref - we have same name, she turned 90 a day after I turned 63, incredible b/g, educated in Belgium so we spoke French throughout as we trawled the aisles, she on track of her fave SA red bargain @ £2.95. We share absolute KillerPrice Shop mentality and her mental maths are lightning fast like mine[sorry, but it seems a not-taught early skill these days, certainly not in English schools] which was super-nice. Chance mtgs on way round with a Fine Arts auctioneer[on tv a fair bit these days] and antiquarian book dealer I know, delighted her. Communal jaw drop at learning '90'. She looks my age and I'm told I don't look mine[sparrer definitely doesn't look hers:-) ] CS queue man took 2 pics and I've sent them to her - amazingly they're good[I am not photogenic in any way]and we've spoken since. I eventually googled her bro. she'd said 'turned out rather famous at Art. Isn't Life queer?' - ye gods- WAS HE!!! DT Obit remarkable. We've talked since and I'm so glad we met, for there was a wistfulness there, too, when 'they're all so old, the few who are left now. They all seem to be not interested in Life. You are. I am Let's keep having intelligent conversations.' Alll her family/France/England/landed g biz is utterly familiar to me via my oldest friend in France, M. I have emailed her about this, sent the pics - I know these families will have known each other - well- from these early discovery times of a certain class in France, 20's and 30's onwards.
We just got on like a house on fire and it was lovely for both of us, if that doesn't sound arrogant....in fact, whether or not it does cannot alter that fact. She, too, must live/survive lean and mean, comme moi, these days. And of course she's still driving her car.. couldn't bear to lose this freedom. Mais oui, absolument, moi aussi.

How come it's twenty to three?.....best be out the door.
