At last, I've made the time for a proper catch-up on here.
Thanks for everyone's response to our adventures on Saturday evening!:D
I listened to DS2 telling his friend on the phone about what had happened and when he was saying things like 'first we saw the tail lights of the car ahead of us, then they vanished completely, then we saw the headlights... or, as we went down the really steep bit on the motorway it was ok on our side but on the other side of the road everyone was starting to get stuck, wheels were spinning and they couldn't go any further; it was anarchy, really great!' that I realised we were really quite fortunate to have got out of it in one piece. I never normally go out when there are bad weather warnings like yesterday, I just hadn't bargained on the breakdown delaying us.
Anyway, welcome hakeber  and Skint yet Again  Hope things get better for you soon, SYA. Well done for having such well-stocked cupboards that you have managed two weeks without shopping!
CCP, I know exactly what you mean about getting a weekly Graze Box; it's a much better way of buying treatsy snacks. I really enjoyed our freebie box and wish I could get a weekly one too but I can't justify the spend at the moment. It's brilliant you still have the old price for it as well!:T
Millie, I've just caught up on GSD news, hugs to her from me. Hope she picks up again and gets better quickly.
Ninnoodle, I love the word dreich. It isn't used round here (except by me). I first heard it when I lived up in Scotland many moons ago.
Some pleasures since I last posted:
1. Some really good time spent chatting with friends at the competition yesterday and I got the rest of my script edited so it will get printed out and posted tomorrow, all being well.
2. DS1 got a good result.
3. A chat with my parents on the phone (giving them a highly edited version of last night's delays.;)
4. Managing an NSD yesterday, despite everything. We had enough packed food and drink with us to cope (even though I'd reached the stage of biscuit rationing with DS2 in the car in case we were stuck overnight! DS1 managed to get a thermos refill for free at the service station as well because I decided to stop at the only one on the route to get more supplies of water for hot drinks just in case of disaster. I had to stay in the car because I couldn't switch the engine off because of the flat battery and the jump start. Was at home all day today so another NSD there as well.:)
5. The very long journey back last night was brilliant for getting the battery a bit more charged up again. I ran it for half an hour (following the mechanic's instructions) this afternoon as well and it seemed fine. I'm glad I filled up the tank last Wednesday. There really are a lot of pleasures to be had from preparedness.I'll try to get to our garage tomorrow to sort the locks out since they are still not working on the key alone.
6. A long nap this afternoon which I really needed.
7. Very good rice, tuna and fennel dish for supper. DS2 had seconds and there's enough left over for DS1's packed lunch tomorrow.
8. I've sorted things out to sell some old Open University courses online. I've been meaning to do that for ages.
And there have been other pleasures too, but I really need to go to bed. I'll fall asleep trying to remember them
You lot are a pleasure as well. Every so often it hits home in a big way.:D
Sweet dreams

My five for yesterday
1. the snow - walking my dog early before anybody else had been on the snow.
2. Clearing the snow from the road with quite a few neighbours - and DS2 helping happily.
3. MIL saying we had a good idea!!!!
When her fridge was broken we told her to buy a fridge/freezer - a small one- to keep in the kitchen as her freezer is out in the garage. She's finally decided we were right as she now doesn't have to go out in the snow.
4. TV not working
5. Reading and listening to music.0 -
Morning all, mini update before I drop the bunny off at the vets. She isn't too bad, has been out for a mooch and some snow licking and had some chicken when she came back in. No more tramadol!
I am now thinking maybe what we are working with is some sort of muscular/trapped nerve problem (the vet did suggest this on Saturday, as it came on so quickly). If that is the case, a few days R&R and anti-inflammatories should sort it. Fingers crossed!!0 -
Millie glad your doggy is feeling better & hope bunny gets on okay too.
Broomstick glad that you all got home safely, I really hated driving in the snow at home (nae chance of that over here!)
Well Monday Schmonday!
1. Up bright & early, got tidied up then got a text to go into work early but I did leave on time. Was glad to go as had a hormonal moment of crying when my boss (half my age!) was rather sharp with me! Blooming hormones! Anyway I apologised for being a blubbering wreck & he apologised for being rude!
2.Home before kids again ( 10 minutes peace & quiet!)
3.Went to Salvos for a mooch. Got a James Blunt CD for $2 for my car, DD1 got ski sallopettes for snow camp in August ( there will be lots of snow in the Victorian Alps ), and she got a video for 99cents ( we still have a TV/video combi that only plays videos.) and I got a tiny little photo frame. When I was washing cupboards first weekend we were in new house, I found a playing card (8 of hearts!) that had a beautiful picture of a bird on the back , so it should just fit nicely in this tiny frame, that cost 99 cents. She also got a black skirt for work, I love that she is happy to come in & mooch with me!
4.walked up to library & watched Casualty for free instead of using half my internet quota! And enjoyed their air-con too.
5.Made spag bol for tea as I couldn't be bothered doing much! DD2 & I swept up loads of leaves & branches from yesterdays storm.
6.When DD1 & I went out we met 2 sets of neighbours across the road, they were very friendly & welcoming (not so much in last house!)
Well keys have been handed back into Estate Agent for old house (hurrah!) we had to get carpets cleaned as part of lease conditions. So that was done this morning, so hopefully we get full bond back soon & back in my savings account!
Have a good day x0 -
Mine for yesterday:
1. Went grocery shopping. Used my £5 off voucher in Aldi, and popped into Lidls (which seems more expensive than Aldi these days? Maybe it's me). Managed to get a fat ball holder feed hanger for the birds, and bought some of that famous Lidl perfume that all the press seems to be raving on about how it smells like Chanel. It was on special offer at £1.99 so thought I'd give it a shot. It's quite nice! Although I think it could be quite overpowering if I put too much on.
2. On the way back 3 swans flew directly over my car. It was a beautiful sight!
3. Woke up with a great tune in my head, so played the album really loud in my car, and also when I got home!
4. HM cottage pie for tea - yum!
5. OH was up late watching the SuperBowl. He's not missed one since 1985!! So I made him American hot dogs (although the hotdogs were German!) in rolls.
Have a great day everyone.0 -
5 for yesterday (Sunday).
1) Bit of a lie in.
2) Continuing to get better.
3) Last of the horse pill size antibiotics!
4) Smaller son did loads of homework.
5) OH came round. :-)
6) OH made a tray of fudge.
7) Haven't been out to Sainsburys for a fortnight so using everything from the freezer and cupboard. Made home made chicken nuggets.
8) Watched Top Gear.
9) Good to have OH back here after a week. :-)0 -
Very poorly, nearly went to hospital last night but it’s subsided a little to throbbing chest pain..
Gathering paperwork for court tomorrow, it will be a pleasure when it’s out of the way tomorrow.
Slow cooking veg and dumpling stew, as I can chuck it in and leave it.
Planning a few is it “staycations” breaks for this year, keeping it cheap by camping, it feels amazing to be able to and a bit surreal.
Resting, hoping that a day taking care of myself will keep whatever this bug it at bay fingers crossed.0 -
PK - Hope you are feeling better and good luck for tomorrow0
-
Good luck tomorrow, PK! Hope all goes well - thinking of you and hope you feel better soon.
Millie - glad things seem to be looking up.
Frith - I enjoyed Top Gear too - glad you're on the mend.
Well, I'm really irritated with myself today. Gave in to tiredness and the need for an instant sugar-fix and got a can of Coke from the machine at work - 70p! Otherwise it has been an NSD but I was doing so well. Hopefully back on track tomorrow. I didn't take Mappetty to work today given the ice so have had to do a fair bit of walking and a colleague very kindly gave me a lift home. Most of the snow seems to have melted now and though I'm very worried on our road because of ice I should be fine taking her to work then. Anyway, trying hard to find some pleasures so here goes:
1. Might not have had an NSD, but it was a Low Spend Day at the very least. Due to the slush I didn't walk into town at lunchtime so didn't spend there.
2. Watched the waterbirds on the river, skating about. It was rather pretty.
3. Got home and epilated. If I can keep it up I'm hoping to save a fortune in razors.
4. Enchiladas for tea.
5. Mr Kitchenbunny will be home soon.
Have a good night, everyone. Take care.
