Did get them in for a few hours though today.groom and fuss and they both are getting used to wearing a surcingle and boots now. que "lets rip off the boots" and "lets remove the nice padded numnah under the surcingle. " game. ripping velcro and flinging things across the stable as well as giving everything a good ol chew! I love youngstock. :rotfl:

oldtractor - I love them too.Especially chubby cheeked colts . Solid , muscular laid back chaps , that you know when you back them they won't turn a hair. Millies oldie still strips I believe, burlesque style-boots, rugs, bandages etc. She is punishing her Mum for forcing her to adorn "reindeer ears" at Christmas :)

    Evening everyone :hello:

Haven't posted for a week, but it's been pretty manic. However, not manic enough to lose any weight... I've put 2lbs on and I'm at my heaviest EVER.

I'll try to focus on the positives and my 5 OS pleasures in the last week (I'll stuggle for the day!):

    1) Went to visit a friend who is ill with sarcoidosis and is being pumped full of steroids. Her mum is her full time carer at the moment. Apparently I was the first friend she'd let visit her. Her mum has blogged about my visit.

    2) Had a payment of £37 from Topcashback  Will go straight into our "house" fund; currently saving for some new furniture!

    3) Finished one book and started another!

    4) Hung around the yellow sticker shelf in Tesco whilst a 2nd reduction was being put on! Bits and pieces now in the freezer!

    5) Discovered a way of getting cheaper rail tickets to London if 4 people travel at once. Bonus!

    Thank you x

Bratstrop alert... I have been feeling a bit meh and lonely today, for no good reason. I am not sure how to get my mojo back- time of year, methinks!....Bratstrop over :D

I feel a bit like this as well, I think it is January blues. Still dark a lot of the time - especially the mornings. Evenings are gradually getting lighter but mornings don't seem to change. I detest winter more and more as each one passes. My friend made me LOL though when she said she felt down and "I can't put my weather on it, I think it must be the finger" :rotfl:

    Evening ladies,

    6) Hilarious strategy meeting (not often you hear that!) This afternoon.

Oh do you play BS bingo too? :D

Teetotal January nearly came to an abrupt end this evening - but I had Ben and jerry's ice cream instead. Not sure how much longer it will go on for though. So for today

    1. Walked into town (well I had to counteract the ice cream!) in order to
    2. get my haircut.
    3. Lovely SC beef and bacon casserole. Even DS liked it.
    4. Realising that a Z list celebrity was at my zumba class - an ex X factor contestant
    5. DD's singing lesson went well
I wanna be in the room where it happens

What a busy day for everyone!

Here are my 5 or so.

    1) Lots of texts from OH.

    2) Boys happy at school.

    3) Plenty of housework and washing done.

    4) Sent the boys' Christmas thank you cards (better late than never).

    5) Went to get the new car! Everything works! Can't get used to having power steering and dead sharp brakes. And I could play all day with the central locking. :-D

    6) Made a roast dinner - chicken, roast spuds, sweet potatoes and carrots and Yorkshires. Plenty of chicken and veg left to turn into a pie at the weekend.

    7) Whilst sorting out car documents for the old car (taken in part exchange) remembered to get my driving licence out so it will be being posted tomorrow to the DVLA to be changed to my new (old) surname.

    8) Just done a chapter of Harry Potter and a few "tales from the old days" for the boys. I was talking to bigger son about whether he would like to join volleyball with smaller son and he said (and I quote) "I don't like sports - it's too tiring". I can't imagine who he inherited that attitude from!

Well I've had a busy evening... 'What's on the meal plan?' I wondered. Stir fry with a clever ploy to use up half a bag of Brussels sprouts, finely shredded, so that the DSs won't even realise they have been near one.:D (Sprouts are not popular in our house.) Kitchen is immaculate due to DS1 spending a large part of the afternoon cleaning it.:D We are having a bit of a blitz because we have a landlord visit on Monday. Kitchen is also nice and warm because we are drying washing in there.:D So I make a stir fry with the Brussels, carrots, onions, the remainder of the broccoli, ginger, the rest of the bottle of shoyu sauce etc and leave it gently bubbling with the lid on and a pan of rice on the boil while I make a quick phone call to my mum to tell her (as one does) that I'd found a load of WWII archived photos of her brother online.:D So I had a chat with her and got a bit distracted (as one does) and smelled burning. The smell of charred Brussels sprouts, onions and broccoli looking like chunky marmite and welded at least half an inch thick onto a large frying pan (our only frying pan) is absolutely disgusting. The house stinks. The clean washing stinks. The pan is still soaking. We have no heavy duty scrubby things to clean it with and, if I can't get it clean without, we are scuppered because I am on NSDs till next Wednesday. The immaculate kitchen looks as if a bomb has hit it and smells worse. And I went and broke, by dropping it on the stone floor, the plastic stopper to my Thermos so that is also ruined. I really need to go to bed before the third thing happens :D

PK, the job news is absolutely wonderful.:T
Frith, I'm a person of few shoes as well: one pair of comfy black 'Hotter' ones for everyday, one pair of walking boots and one pair of wellies. The ones on that website are amazing though (for looking at).;) I wouldn't have anywhere to go wearing them!
Savingforoz, yes I am a writer but am struggling to make any money atm hence thinking that I must get my bookselling properly sorted out hence getting my internet bank account opened at long last. Are you using Ebay, Amazon or Abe or anyone like that or are you setting up your own website?

    My five pleasures for Friday:

    1. Another NSD - am grimly determined to get my third set of 6 in a row now!

    2. Deciding to turn three large portions of rice (which was not burnt) into a version of Monday night's intended supper, mixed with fried spring onions and fennel, sweet corn and tuna with fresh tomatoes. It was actually really, really delicious and both DSs had seconds so complete disaster was averted. :T

    3. The chat with my mum.

    4. Watching old film from the 1920s/30s from where my father grew up in a community surviving in extreme poverty and hardship. I'm filling in gaps in family history and feeling so much in awe of what they went through. It's a strength really more than a pleasure to know that I come from generations of tough survivors:D

    5. Realising that I have been wheat free for 6 weeks now and haven't had any sweets since Xmas. I'm not sure I'm losing much weight but I feel sooo much healthier.

Sweet dreams (am off to scrub that frying pan, can't put it off any longer, then bed before any more catastrophes :))

    1) Picked up a pack of YS smoked salmon in Mr T - with some HM seedy bread that's tomorrow's breakfast sorted. (I'm making the most of it as I'm never going in Mr T again after a dreadful incident today where I had to listen to the till operator making fun of a Chinese customer for not knowing how the car park machine worked. I've made a complaint but I suspect they'll react as they usually do, by completely ignoring me.)

CCP join the club, I can't stand Tesco and won't go there due to issues I've had with their staff. They certainly weren't trained at the same charm school all the other supermarkets send their staff to. How rude to make fun of anyone, no matter their nationality

Broomstick apparently soaking the pan in salt will lift the burnt food. If you have something plastic like a credit card that's supposed to be a good 'scraper' without scratching. Hope you manage to get it clean.

    1. Broke the stone barrier this week, really unexpected as I've not been very strict with myself. I have to say I've not had to buy much food except fresh lately, so I'm saving £'s while losing lbs

    2. Found a red envelope with €25 in from my last holiday. Will come in handy for Italy :)

    3. nsd/npd

    4. Thought I'd sort out my shoes as it's the topic of the moment. I have 5 pairs of boots, 17 pairs of ahoes and 22 pairs of sandals! Absolutely no need to buy any more for the foreseeable future. Dammit! ;) This is what happens when you get older, you accumulate things over the years so don't wear anything out :(

    5. My nails have at long last recovered after wearing false nails for 6 months last year. Took 3/4 months to get back to normal and it's saving me a lot of money being natural. Just booked a manicure (a one off treat) at the college which will be £3, plus a trim at the same time for £4. Has taught me an expensive lesson, vanity isn't for me!

    Sleep tight
    S :)

Big hugs Millie2008, don't worry about having a 'strop', because you weren't. We all have our grrrr moments, and its lovely to have this place to vent. Hope tomorrow is a better day x

    1. Worked from home

    2. Low spend day but did naughtily buy some 'treats' in the supermarket of the YS, not needed but yummy nature.....

    3. I tried to treat DD to a bottle of berry smoothie but she didn't like it, so guess what I'll need to drink it :)

    4. Went out for yummy dinner in a restaurant with a nice group of friends

    5. Was able to fully enjoy the night out as DD has gone for a sleepover at a chum's so I could stay out later and not worry about getting back for a babysitter

Thanks Sparrer (and Ampersand via pm) for advice on the pan. The plastic card is a very good idea - hadn't heard of that one before.

I was a lot more violent I'm afraid and attacked it with a metal spoon (it's just a stainless steel pan not non-stick thank goodness) then searched the kitchen cupboards and found a kilner jar of cheap salt so have been using that as an abrasive for half an hour and seem to have got just about everything cleaned off. Must write a note to myself to make the order I've been meaning to make since last year for bulk buying salt, bicarb and other green cleaning materials.

    Thanks again :D

frith:happy driving! I went from power steering & central locking etc to none in my present car!

We're watching an ancient episode of Taggart, there has been a murrdderr and we are enjoying the Scottish voices & scenery.

Happy moving in day Mhagster! It sounds a lovely place and you will be settled in in no time.

It's very windy here today and was lashing with rain earlier. I've got a chest infection and my OH got a letter from HM customers to say he has tax which is underpaid by....£3k!!!! Not a good start to the weekend so am determined to glean some pleasures!
    My 5 for yesterday:

    1. Me and my OH went to a local cafe/country emporium type place for Friday lunch. It was so nice, had a lovely bowl of lentil soup. Their sale was rubbish (20% off Christmas ornaments - the grips!) which meant was good for my pocket as I didn't buy anything. Well, apart from the lunch - not really OS but so nice to get a break from our desks.

    2. Had delicious tea cooked by OH of curried bubble & squeak with veggie sausages (for me, meat ones for him ;))

    3. Finished a really good book

    4. Run tomorrow morning (today) was cancelled so I could relax in the evening with some wine

    5. 2 emails already on items I listed on Gumtree
