    Evening all.

PK - interestingly, that's what my local branch of A$da tends to be like, which is why I very rarely go there (I only go at all becuase they have a deli pizza counter that's great when I can't be bothered to make my own :o).

mum_2_ellis - welcome to the forum!

Ladyhawk - that sounds like my local garage - people keep telling me other garages might be cheaper, but I won't go anywhere else because they're so helpful: a few years ago they didn't spot a fault on my car so I had to take it back the next day, and they repaired the problem for free as an apology. :T

Hayleypoppins - thanks for reminding me - I've got a box of banana muesli that I bought and didn't like as cereal but which makes great flapjacks. I'll have to make some tomorrow. Oh, and welcome to the thread to you, too!

catspaw - you're more than welcome to pop in, and even more welcome to come and stay if you fancy it. :)

mhagster - your new house and garden sound wonderful - I hope you're all very happy there.

Broomstick - I hope you successfully evaded #3 yesterday. ;) I'm glad you got your pan sorted out - I can second mhagster's suggestion of soap powder if it happens again - it has to be bio stuff, though. (Another tip I've picked up from this most helpful of forums. :A (Or fora, if you want to be pedantically correct about the Latin. ;)))

Frith - I know how you feel about your car - I was stunned the first time I drove a car with power steering - it's so much easier to drive! I hope you and he / she / it are very happy together.

    1) I set my BM on the timer before going to bed last night so I woke up to the smell of freshly baked seedy bread.

    2) Finished my studying for my current OU unit so I can start work on the essay tomorrow.

    3) And I've now got to go and watch a programme recommended by my tutor, which I can call work but which doesn't involve any effort. ;)

    4) Had a very nice chat with a techie from the manufacturer of my new stereo system, which has been causing me problems, at the end of which he decided the stereo's faulty. It will be a pain to have to return it to the shop on Monday, but it's a relief to know the problem wasn't just caused by me being dim and not understanding the instructions. ;)

    5) Turkey and leek lasagne for dinner. Well, I hope it will be a pleasure, anyway - it's a made-up recipe and I'm not at all sure how it's going to turn out. :undecided

    6) One more, which I'd forgotten about until I went back in the kitchen - I found a bay tree that had seeded itself between two paving slabs, so I pulled it up and am going to dry the leaves for future use. :)

    Have a nice evening, all.
Back after a very long break!

Lovely to see so many new posters on the thread! Welcome to catspaw, Hayleypoppins and mum_2_ellis! :hello:

    Mine for today:

    1. Deciding on which estate agent to use to sell my house, signing the contract and getting the measurements taken. Fingers crossed!
    2. Making another loaf of bread and enjoying the wonderful smell as it baked.
    3. Buying two books to list on Amazon for resale - if I can make a few extra pounds this way it will all help.
    4. Doing my grocery shopping for the rest of the month and coming in comfortably under budget for the January grocery challenge.
    5. A rather thoughtless remark from somebody irritating me enough to realise I needed to make a few changes. Which is good!
    6. My brother bringing me round lots of padded envelopes and bubblewrap to help with the Amazon sellling.
    7. Cuddles and a warm lap from Fudge Foster-Cat.
    8. A NPD - haven't driven since Tuesday, so a few pennies saved there.
    9. Hot porridge with blueberries mixed in for breakfast - the ones I found yesterday. Yummy! I swear they tasted better for being free...
    10. Doing a mini revamp of my finances.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

Liking this thread! I always see the bright side of things and am now trying to get it rub off on my friends - sometimes easier said than done though ;-)

Welcome to the new people :D

I now have one pleasure for today to share:

OH just got home and is currently [STRIKE]setting fire to the kitchen [/STRIKE] pan frying his venison steak. GSD, who is an:A 99% of the time is being an utter nightmare, as she loves the smell of anything game-like cooking. She is one step away from jumping up and stealing it out of the pan and as I would hate to interfere, I am letting him get on with it. Bad GSD (snigger)

My first giggle in 2 days. Huzzah!!

    Evening

Ampersand - Have tried to send you a PM but your in box is full. Pacel arrived today, thank you
Mhagster - Enjoy your new house, it sounds wonderful.

Pleasures for the last couple of days,
    Friday
    1. As part of operation clear the freezer took some vegetable samosas, onion bhajis, vegetable pakoras and sausage rolls into work. All left over from the holidays and unlikely to get eaten at home. Went down very well and our little department was very popular today.
    2. Enjoying wearing my union jack shoes even if my feet didn't enjoy it quite so much by the end of the day.
    3. Pub at lunchtime to say farewell to another collegue but he had the good news that he has been offered a job :j
    4. Had to pick DD up from school but managed to get all the buses at the right time so didn't take too long to get home
    5. Nice chat with my mum on the phone and she is sounding much better at the moment, depression seems to be at bay for now.

    Saturday
    1. Out of bed early and put the bread machine on, then went back to bed for another hour.
    2. HM bread for breakfast with really yummy HM Raspberry Jam that I bought at a craft market at christmas.
    3. Received an extra £50 in vouchers from NPower as they mucked up my new contract :D
    4. Family early dinner out which was very pleasant.
    5. Popped into the inlaws on way home. Nice to catch up with them plus DD got lots of fabric for her quilting project she has started.

Hugs to all who need them and welcome to all the new posters

    Just deleted some, tealady.

Welcome indeed to newbies here - catspaw, Hayleypoppins, mum_2_ellis and amanda40[I remember back then]. We just share and it's not a treadmill.

    1. Yes, Frith - my current old Skoda[W] was my first power-steering too. It is marvellous, ditto sunroofs - my one non-negotiable. Glad the new chariot got you to mhagster and back so quickly and that roominess really came in handy for the move:-). Happy days and hope good fuel economy, too.

    2. > early bus, but had to rtn to house. Used 40 min gap well, before one in other direction was due. Doesn't matter where I shop for Grauniad, milk, oranges. Out I went again, only to see bus already there.....BIG EARLY!!!!!! Ran, made it, then waited - driver was waiting for correct time. It felt like relief regardless.

    3. Fruit bread and a multi-seed quickly done on rtn. All baked by 11. Smelling beautiful and used oven for prepped jkt poatoes at same time. Haven't had potatoes since...last time? rtc 2.5k organic=9p

    4. Don't care for Lleyton Hewitt, but what a match he gave Roanic..and won. That sort of attitude is one too many British sporties lack. Great R5 commentary.

    5. Dear Grauniad's made it back, still in its plackie sleeve and may well join the last fortnight's...still not totally read, last week's barely broached.

More 5. Wretched ebay free listing must take precedence this w/e... on I go. This truancy is my ill-disciplined pleasure. Might have another and hit Trumpington for early hunt'n'gather swoop demain, also see Spitalfields man to confirm my tentative presence this week coming...scary.

Wish it wasn't 5. New bread is TOOOOOOO nice, [STRIKE]both of them[/STRIKE]:o:o:o

  • Ampersand- I frequently include a cheeky #6, which makes up for days like today when I have fewer than 5! I must dig out Mum's breadmaker (yet another gadget that now resides in the back of the larder cupboard!)

And get you guys in your posh cars :D my Punto has a tape player, windy back windows, no sunroof and the power steering keeps failing. It is also a mobile kennel\ tack room, so it would be pointless me having anything smarter :) And I have mum's 4x4 at my disposal, which she rarely drives as she can't park it :D

Mhags congrats on your new home, the garden in particular sounds awesome . Pleased all the nasties were removed for you
ninnoodle so sorry to hear your woes, hope your ci soon goes, and your OH sorts something out re the tax bill
catspaw welcome. Sensible cat, finding the best place for his/her? Snooze, especially when the sheets are fresh and clean
Millie hope you're feeling a little less meh now, and your friend has got over her fb strop. Had to laugh at GSD's antics, I should think the game smell would drive any respectable dog nuts! Bad GSD? Bad Millie
PK congrats on your amazing haul, has to be bargain of the year so far. I so agree about Asda staff, they're always cheerful and chatty. On the other hand I've written to Mr M twice complementing their staff but the branch hasn't had any feedback from HO, so in future I'll write direct to branch
Hayley welcome. It must be sort out freezer day today. What a clever use for muesli, I'd not heard of that one before
Ladyhawk if you really like the flat try to go back to see it at different times of day, rush hours etc (I'm no doubt teaching my grandmother to suck eggs). Like you I've written a list today, but mine's what I hope to achieve this year. Item 1 Bodyflight!
KB sounds like a very productive day, you deserve another lie-in tomorrow.
Mum2ellis welcome. You have been busy! Happy Birthday for tomorrow, hope you have the day you deserve
CCP the turkey & leek lasagne sounds good, and not too naughty. Please let us know how it was, cos we may need the recipe. I envy you the little bay, I lost mine last year and have some vouchers to get another but not until the weather improves
savingforoz well done on taking the first step, putting the house in the hands of an agent. Fingers x'd for you for a good sale. You have to love the smell of fresh bread, but I daren't make any atm as I couldn't resist and would eat it too quickly
amanda welcome, looking forward to reading your 5
Tealady oh, another bread baker today. I think I may just have to give in and make some in the morning, so I can use some of the raspberry jam a lovely OS'er gave me (thank you again, ykwya)
ampersand – that's it, I give in, the bread maker goes on tonight. I can't even wait til morning. Oh the pleasure of waking to fresh bread and knowing that the President buerre in the freezer, and raspberry jam in the fridge (both kept for special occasions, which this is as everyone is baking) are just waiting to join it.

1.nsd/npd. Five this week but could never keep up with Broomstick

    2. Tided the freezer and made a big veggie casserole in the sc which started as soup but there was very little room for the stock. Made 9 portions, taking up most of the space I'd made in the freezer

    3. Made a list of things I have to do in 2012 - #1 look into bungee jumping, #2 learn to swim...23 items in total which I'll have a good go at getting through. Not very MS but it's now or never!

    4. RTC trout for dinner with hm wedges, to satisfy my sudden urge for fish'n'chips. It was much tastier

    5. Just settling down to watch Inside I'm Dancing, an amazing film seen before but certainly not one to tire of

    Sweet dreams
    S :)

    Nearly gone....
Millie, my car - aka tip - is still gunwhaled with last Fair's stock, as is house, as is Shed no. 1, as is Shed no. 2, as is loft. I share cassette player with you - long story tapes for[usually]1500-3000miles round trips...don't have cds, don't want gps, like maps and using brain and following my nose/intuition.

I have no breadmaker other than little hands in bowl+flour+salt+free yeast from Mr T+water+kneading catharsis. So, so, so easy. Add in bits as mood/experiment/use-ups present themselves.

sparrer- say when you need more of those 2[and our next mtg? Pre-crimbo, as mooted last year, might be feasible this year, if we start planning now? - given many mutual ncd's last time]

Final 5. before mum2ellis brings us yummy cake, in 18 minutes please:-) - hearing Poetry Please with Roger McGough is perfect. NZ's Janet Frame piece just now, described as unsettling, but haunting and spun round a sound in my blood: water on the corrugated iron roof....
...and is just closing with RM reading WB Yeats' 'He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven', which liquefies me and brings all sorts of too many, too raw, rememberings come tumbling in.

    Quiet nights, peaceful hearts partout.
