Just wanted to say thanks, I love this thread!!! It makes me smile every day :o

  • Hi all

THanks for the welcomes to this part of the forum!

    Todays for me are :

    1. Nice 'post' day today - a package of Xbox games that DD won on Ebay , she was ever so pleased with them and they made a great saving against buying them new. Hotel Chocolat choccies arrived for us all .... gotta save them though until some of the other christmas choccies have been eaten up !

    2. A lovely afternoon at Mudeford with DD and DH, very chilly and DD is still very coldified so we didnt spend much time outside but watched the sea (and people watched....!) from the car, then went to the cafe and had paninis and hot choccie, not very money saving but very enjoyable!

    3. Stopped off at 99p shop and Poundland on way home and got 2 big bags of stuff, including one of those saving tins that needs a tin opener to open it for us to save £1-£2 a day in.

    4. Had such a giggle on the way home and at home with one of those silly brightly coloured latex type toys from Poundland, childish but fun !

    5. Easy dinner tonight and an evening in front of the fire again... !

Kadeeae - so sorry to hear that your darling doggie has not had a good day...hopeing tomorrow and all those following are better for all of you.

Sunnygirl - sending you hugs at this difficult time... well done with the premmie knitting thats fab, its great to hear that you and DH are feeling closer .... really lovely .... noticed your savings for Christmas 2010 in your sig, wow thats great, well done !

Broomstick - thats great that all the family are pulling together.

Hello all, a bit late in the day but here are mine-

    1. A really lovely day with my DD visiting charity shops, I'd been trying to think of where we could go which would be cheap and decided to give her £5 to spend in the shops, cheaper than going to the cinema etc and she's a really good shopper, came home with a lovely skirt, shirt, fleecy blanket and some videos (I did have to top up the £5 with £1 or so myself for that lot but it was worth it!).

    2. Treated myself to a brand new lakeland bread keeper, still in the original sealed bags for £4.99 in the charity shop. I've wanted one of these for my h/m bread for ages but couldn't justify the expense so very pleased.

    3. Watched Dr Who with the children, a lovely way to spend a bit of relaxing time.

    4. A nice hot bath to warm me up and my DD sat in the bathroom doing her homework and chatting away, she may not want to be with me so much when she's older so it's lovely that she does now.

    5. Tucking DD up in bed in a thick top she got for Christmas, hugging her new fleecy blanket and with my fleecy top next to her..aah!

6.Sneaky extra one - Having a good laugh with the kids at the dog lying down next to my bargain gold twigs in a vase (£1 in the co-op, couldn't make them for that) and commenting that he was colour co-ordinated with them!

Sleep well all and thanks for posting, I so love this thread, Ali x.

    1. Warm house.

    2. Making a dent in the European washing clothes mountain.:p

    3. Um, that's all, off to bedfordshire.

Kadeeae - hope doggie continues to get better, sending hugs. :A

Hugs to anyone feeling snuffly, not too well, or a bit down for whatever reason. Feeling a bit sad myself today as all the Christmas/New Year visits are over and there's a long stretch ahead before my home is full again. I've still got to visit the mother  when the threat of snow goes but it seems a possibility every day for the next week or so. However I've had a good time with lots of children around so certainly have nothing to complain about. Caterina I've just clicked your link (I meant to before but got wrapped up in reading all the posts) how clever you are! I wish I was crafty, I can only just manage to sew a button on!

    My five..
    1. A peaceful nsd at home watching films and Casualty on the one-eyed monster

    2. Turned the chook carcass into stock, it smells delicious and am looking forward to turning that into soup in the morning

    3. During my daily call to DM she told me her phone bill is £26 a month . When I go next I'll sort it for her, she only ever calls her neighbour and then only occasionally so it has to be wrong - I don't pay much more that that for TV, broadband and all my calls.

    4. Reduced the times on the heating thermostat, although it's freezing outside it's a really warm little house thanks to the HA putting masses of insulation in...and all the visitors have gone so I can change into my jimmies and thick dressing gown if I feel chilly :D

    5. I've just seen the 10/10 posts which I'd not heard of before, don't know where else I can cut back but am going to try for the environment, and my purse ;)

Night night n God bless all, stay safe

Good morning all! I can't believe it's Jan 3rd already. How will I be ready for work tomorrow? :eek:Especially as I've just spent about an hour catching up on the thread instead of planning for next week as I intended:rotfl:

My 5 for the past few days....

    1. Fab evening at the theatre last night. We had booked before Xmas, but one of the cast broke her arm so we had a refund and free tickets for last night - better seats and a Saturday night out. (Never happens these days!)
    2. Free film today - The Princess and the Frog -thanks to See Film First.
    3. Sold DS2 old train set on Ebay. (He has graduated to a 'propper' trainset). He is very excited to have his own money to spend on an Airfix kit and some computer games.
    4. Ebaying has also resulted in some de-cluttering - stuff handed on, stuff to charity shop and bag to school for the spare underwear and uniform store!
    5. How could I forget a Trip to Warwick castle on New Years Day with DH, DS2 and two of his little friends? (Free with our Merlin passes courtesy of mr T's Clubcard Deals). I loved taking the smallest little girl into the Princess tower to dress up as a princess. My DD was never a girly girl, so I missed out on these little pleasures! I know Warwick is more theme park than monument, but the castle was very atmospheric in the twilight and the entertainment was very enjoyable. Also the cold made a good excuse for more hot chocolate:j

Hoping to do some cooking for the freezer today and shower the very smelly dog. I'll update you later if these were a pleasure or not!:rotfl:

Ooh, a cold but bright and sunny day here in Bristol. Happy Sunday, everyone!

    My 5 for yesterday are:

    1. Delicious lunch at Wagamamas yesterday, even better because a friend treated me. I love Asian food !

    2. Getting plenty of free exercise by walking around half of Bristol; at least that's what it felt like! Must have walked several miles :j.

    3. Watching hot sexy men in the American crime dramas on TV last night .

    4. Delicious split pea casserole from my slow cooker last night. I love my slow cooker! So nice to come home to a hot meal all ready for me :T.

    5. Choosing and ordering my new camera to replace the one that was stolen when I was burgled recently :cheesy:.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

Big hugs to anyone feeling under the weather or having a difficult time.

Caterina your blinds are fantastic, you did a great job. The price of blinds is extortionate so you should feel very proud of yourself for saving so much and they really look so professional.

Mine for yesterday and so far today:

    1. Popped into Accessorize, found two things I had been really coveting for months but didn't want to spend the money on, and got them both half price in the sale. So chuffed!

    2. Took the Christmas tree down and gave the living room an almighty hoovering that it badly needed because our cat likes eating the Christmas tree and the little tinselly bits kept getting everywhere.

    3. Not very OS but hubby and I went for a drive to Moreton in Marsh and decided to stop for lunch in a little tea shop and it was absolutely gorgeous. I had a beef stew with cheesy cobbler and the thought of it still makes my mouth water. We don't eat out that often so it was a lovely treat.

    4. Catching up on some telly - watched Turn of the Screw which was very good, now watching Hairy Bikers that I recorded last night, and working my way through Beverly Hills 90210 season 6 that my in-laws bought me for Christmas and I had been hinting at for months. (I'm 29 believe it or not but have never grown out of 90210!)

    5. Finally found out the name of a lovely cat who visits us for a chat every day - one of the neighbouring kids told us. Her name is Chloe and she pops round frequently and 'talks' non stop - we are totally in love with her. Silly really but we'd been wondering for ages.

    6. The novelty of my new filter coffee machine hasn't worn off yet. I am still mad about it. Still using Lidl coffee but I bought some tasty-sounding Rwandan stuff from the little tea room yesterday that I'm looking forward to trying. And the smell of brewing coffee is so yum, you can smell it all over the house.

    7. My dad told me on the phone last night that he started a new bay tree from a cutting a while ago and it's grown to almost two feet and I can have it next time I visit - I'm really chuffed about this because bay trees are so expensive (we looked at one yesterday that was £55! and I just ordered a very small one for £10). And apparently they can be quite hard to grow from a cutting but my dad is very green fingered and can grow anything.

    8. Popped into the pound shop yesterday and they have my favourite Arm & Hammer toothpaste that is normally really expensive. I bought four at a quid each and felt very smug.

    9. Made a coconut and lime cake from the Be-Ro book. It didn't rise very well because of my stupid geriatric leaky oven but it tastes flipping lovely and I have scoffed almost the entire thing :o

    Have fab Sunday everyone :D

Here's my pleasures from the last day/this morning:

    1) Snuggling on the sofa while watching a film. I love doing that. :)
    2) Making a great chilli con carne yesterday afternoon so all the prep was done first, left for a bit, then made and it took all the stress out of it (not that I feel overly stressed in the kitchen, but it didn't feel as much of a chore as it can do when all you want to do is have a sit down)
    3) Having enough leftover chilli for Monday night's tea with some crusty bread in a pasta bake - yum!
    4) Having the headache I woke up with eased away by DH applying hugs, cuddles, hot tea and toasted bagels. If that's homeopathy, I'm a convert ;):)
    5) It being a clear day outside. As both of us are back to work tomorrow, it feels good that there isn't (currently) any ice to hinder us. We're forecast down to -3 later though, so I'm not getting my hopes up that it'll stay that ice free.
    6)

Angeltreats - I love the sound of that cake! I make Nigella's Coconut Cake from the Domestic Goddess book and love any variation of coconut cake - mmm!
Savingforoz - I've never been to a Wagamama restaurant but they sound great - I envy you :)
Caterina - the blinds are great. I wish I had the skill for big projects like that, but I tend to start more things than I finish so small projects suit me better - I tend to finish things that way ;)
House Elf - We went around Warwick Castle last year and it was amazing. Wet, but amazing. I bet it is fantastic at New Year. :)

Hope everyone have a great day (((hugs to those in need))).

    Kitchenbunny xx

Good Morning  - I can't believe that I've allowed total wasteage of 2hrs c/h this morning  - didn't wake up till 9.20 and it's on from 7.00-9.00am !

bunny too - so pleased you enjoyed that Lemon Drizzle recipe  - wd you on getting off to a flying start with your post-Xmas/NY tidying up - that's what's on the cards here for today. I'm another with a 'ratbag of an X' (fortunately mine is no longer in a position to disrupt my life or cause me any more aggro) - maybe we should form our own club :rotfl:.
savingforoz - wd you on your lovely long walk :T. lovely day with your friend there .
Kitchenbunny - wooooo a Tassimo machine - hope you can find somewhere for the pods - they always seemed so expensive to me, which is the reason why I never bothered really lusting after one :o - but, if I'm honest, I still DO lust after one ;). Good to hear your cold is on it's way out now, typical timing though . Your yesterday sounded very calming and a lovely way to relax before going back to work :).
LittleBrownFrog - wd to your OH for taking the kids out of the way for you  - wd you on the pancake making :j - and wtg Dad for the wood .
parsonswife - wow you may have slept in late BUT you've been a busy-bee since - home-made bread, home-made soup, all the laundry done and line-dried and STILL found time to watch Dr.Who. Half the thread seems to have spent their Xmas/NY telly-watching in the company of the delectable David Tennant - phwaoooor!
Kadeeae - so sorry to hear about your lovely doggie - hope she's over the worst now - they're such a worry to us when they're poorly. Give her a gentle cuddle from her Auntie Ollie please.
niksyg - good to hear that you got your fair share of the New Year whoopsies this weekend . I couldn't believe my eyes at what was going begging in Asda .
Dazi - wd to your bosses for letting you all go a little early for Xmas AND NY - being home-based for work, that's something that I tend to forget about so thank you for reminding me of one more blessing in my life - that I can wind my work-load down when there are no calamities happening :T!
Ladyhawk - wd on your soup-making - hadn't thought of doing Leek and Lentil - so another one to try next time . I've got a try of roasting veg (whoopsied) in my fridge and was wondering what to do with it - your other one has given me an idea now - I'll roast them off and then fill a pastry case with them and add some of our cheese mountain - :T again.
Caterina - how lovely to be invited to the baby's 1st birthday party - do you often get the opportunity to see 'one of your deliveries' afterwards? The midwife who delivered my DD was also in our church choir, so she saw her growing up AND was also Brown Owl when DD went into Brownies. Due to birth problems, she also baptised her immediately and continued to visit the SCBU for the 2wks that DD was in there.
nuttybabe - lol at your kids being embarassed by you singing - all kids need to learn from a very early age that it's our 'mission in life' to embarasse them whenever, and wherever, we can ;) - STILL doing it to mine and they're 36, 30 and 29 :rotfl:. My favourite TV ad is the woman who throws herself on the floor in the supermarket when her child starts a tantrum - would really love to have had the nerve to do that when mine 'kicked off'.
grandmasam - wd you on managing to get our walking during the past couple of weeks - been so busy here with visitors/work that I've not had much 'me time' at all. Good Luck with your 'sealed pot/£1-a-day challenge'.
bonty44 - wd on sorting your finances out - something I need to do this month - I've got overpaid rent (work has been deducting TOO MUCH) so it's going to be better in my pocket than theirs ;). Enjoy your meet-up with your friend - good that Christmas can help to kick-start a friendship again :).
ACEY - wd to your sons with their swimming and how lovely that their grandparents were able to come and watch them showing their skills. Don't let 'that rotten sod' get to you - deep down you KNOW what a swine he is and that the boys are better with you and the stability that you and your home give them. The guy is jealous of that and green with envy at the life that you all have together now. THAT's why he lashes out verbally at you - he has lost his 'power of control' over you and the boys and is possibly frightened that he could lose his liberty over the fraud charges. Stand proud and firm, sister - HShugs211_32276.gif to you.
Kittikins - phew what a relief over not having to buy shoes at this time of year . Wtg at your bowling session and wd to your DD - don't forget to do your survey .
hoody2009 - and welcome hoody - isn't it lovely to get back to our everyday routines after all the disruption of the holiday period :T.
tudorfan - I would LOVE to have chickens and I know that I've got space for some in my garden, BUT I'm not sure how well it would work here. We have a lot of local 'scallies' who would probably try to get into my garden so I'm unwilling to put any lives at risk. Such a shame, but maybe after retirement, it's something that I can plan for .
SunnyGirl - It's good that you've found some time/space for yourself amongst everything else that's been going on around you this past week or so. Wd you on your preemie knitting - my DD was a SCBU baby (though at 6lbs15oz she was a GIANT compared with others in there) and I remember some of the really tiny ones that came into the Unit - some stayed for ages, some were only there a couple of hours - it was heart-breaking, but the work that the Staff do is awe-inspiring. So pleased that you and your OH are feeling so close with all that's happening - HSarmhugs_9780.gifto you both.
Broomstick - wd on getting your family 'on board' with the economising - and for thinking about your fuel consumption too.
ginnyknit - hope that isn't a head%20cold.gif that you're starting with. Wd on your charity shop/Wilkies/HomeBargains shopping trip :T - always worthwhile checking out the HomeBargains food section - they often have some lovely gems in there ;).
DizzyK - :T for popping in - hope you can manage to post some pleasures to share with us :).
aplaceinthesun - Your trip to Mudeford sounds absolutely brilliant - I'm  at the thought of the paninis and hot choccie AND bargains to be found as well :T.
alisong - wonderful idea you had there - like you say a day elsewhere would have cost you far more than £5 :j.
mineallmine - wd at tackling your mountain of laundry - I know the feeling.
sparrer - good luck in sorting out your mother's phone bill - may I ask please who your tv/broadband/phone supplier is? I really need to re-jig mine now that Christmas is over and done with - I'm thinking of getting a Freeview box so I can dump the SKY, but I'm with them for broadband as well - phone is with BT. I've had to use more c/h while visitors have been around - young children visiting means that the heating has had to be on during the day.
house elf - well done on your lovely day out, trip to the theatre and free movie :T. Great start on the de-cluttering as well :j and good luck with the 'smelly dog' lol.
angeltreats - wd on your Accessorize bargains AND for waiting for the sales :). wtg dad on the bay tree and wd again to you on the Be-Ro Lime and Coconut Cake - my OH loves anything with coconut in, so I may give this one a go for him.

    Mine for yesterday:

    1. My Turkey/chicken stock that was separated into two lots - one made a delicious Leek and Potato Soup and the other was just frozen for future use.

    2. Phone call from DD to say that dgd1 (age 11) wanted to go shopping and would I go to meet her - so chuffed that dgd wanted me with her. We met at McD's and had hot chocolate as she had come by train and it was freezing.

    3. Dannii-lou had vouchers for Claire's Accessories that she wanted to use and had waited for the sales. Interesting to see that we have similar taste in ear-rings lol - she already has her eyes on my jewellery box for 'when anything happens to me' - hmmmmm. She also needed another phone re-charger as she'd left hers at her dad's - only had the darn thing a week!

    4. Trip to Wilkies to get some boxes with lids on for my Christmas deccies to get put away neatly.

    5. Next stop was Asda and got Dannii her tea - pasty, chips and beans AND a piece of Millionaire's Shortbread plus more hot choccie - she can't half put the food away! I stuck with a scone and coffee :A. Treated OH to a whole trout for his evening meal with hasselback pots and steamed leeks and cabbage as I'd deserted him for the entire day lol.

that's about me done for yesterday. Need to start thinking about what we're going to eat this evening and get something out of the freezer.

HSsending1_28738.gif to all who need them, for whatever reason - hope you're all soon bouncing back to full fitness asap. Special hugs to Sunny Girl and family and Kadeea's lovely dog. - love Ollie xxx
