You've all done so much today!

Here are my five (or 7) for today ...

1 Waking up to see it had snowed again but not too much for it to stop me being brave enough to drive in it, so took the boys and OH down for a walk by the (frozen) canal

2 Finding all my endowment documents so I can finally get round to cashing it in as it is losing money and putting the lump sum on my mortgage, this will make me feel much less guilty about taking extended maternity leave come May

3 Being invited out for a meal with a friend next week who I haven't seen for over a year, our Christmas cards to each other have prompted that and it's nice to know that people still think of each other even when life is fairly hectic

4 Putting away the Christmas Decs in a very methodical order so that I can just get the box of 'Advent' stuff out first next year, in an attempt to be organised

5 Finding some pop-up laundry bins in Primark today which have enabled DS1 and DS2 to have tidy bedrooms ... start this year as we mean to go on

6 Making some very festive clementine marmalade, delicious!

7 Best mate has arranged to come down to stay with her son next weekend - first time she's felt brave enough since her OH left so I am really proud of her! She has been ruthless and bagged up all his leftover stuff today, well done to her!

    5 for today:

    1) Having another good go around the house when my sons were at their father's for lunch. Changed the bunkbeds, hoovered, cleaned the stove out, did little bit of paperwork and checked online banking etc.

    2) Went swimming this afternoon with sons and my brother and my mum and dad popped in to watch my sons swimming. Last time they went, my little son couldn't swim at all. Today he was jumping in the deep end (2 metres 60), diving and swam 3 widths. :-)

    3) Went to mum and dad's for tea. I'm not sure what it was in the casserole but it was nice! I don't tend to tell my sons what it is (they're not great meat eaters) and tonight it was possibly pheasant or pigeon!

    4) Really looking forward to a "feature length" episode of Casualty.

    5) Sons are both ridiculously over excited now so they're going to sit quietly in my bed for a bit and watch some of the Top Gear episode set in Bolivia to calm them down.

Not so nice news today is that ex husband had a go at me when I took my sons out to him in his car. He questioned me at great length about a solicitors letter I should have received (I haven't - due to Christmas/bank holidays probably). Anyway, the upshot of all his shouting is that he can't have the boys when he is supposed to on Monday so has decided he will have them a different day. When I said that was impossible as they are back at school on Tuesday, he got quite shirty and started demanding to have them for a different teatime...

Rather than standing there feebly, I am now kicking myself for not asking "What are you doing on Monday - going anywhere nice?" I know full well at 10.00 he will be in court on 20 charges of fraud!

bonty - that's reminded me I have an endowment mortgage. :-S It is thousands short of paying the right amount (although I have 15 years to go) and I no clue what I should be doing with it!

Acey I switched to Repayment about 1 1/2 years ago and thought I would keep the endowment ticking over to keep as a lump sum but after looking at figures, etc., I think I would rather cut my losses, stick the current lump sum on the mortgage and continue overpaying as much as possible - I didn't get financial advice about this though, everyone kept advisign me to take out more endowments, etc. Can you switch part of your mortgage to repayment?

Hi all, the delicate feelings have gone now, thanks for keeping your voice down Ollie, much appreciated, lol ;)

    Today's blessings:

Ice on the car but the sun shone brightly and made everywhere look gorgeous.

Took DD to the shoe shop and she didn't need shoes :) Yippee!! Shoelady suggested we go back at the beginning of March as there's plenty of growth in both her trainers and school shoes.

So....to counteract not spending anything on shoes, I went a bit crazy in the cookshop (our own village's version of L*keland, it's blissful in there, they have everything you could ever need/desire). The shop was having a sale today, money off everything, I was powerless to resist! In my defence, I bought things that have been on my wish list for ages, but really have to have more NSDs now (managed one yesterday....).

DD and I went bowling for 2p at a H*llywood Bowl this morning - and she won by miles! We should get a free game for one of us if I get round to filling out an online survey within 3 days too, so am very happy with that :)

Got back on the diet waggon today and already my head has clicked into a better place! I have about 5 week's worth of LL packs to use up, and a lot of weight to get rid of as I've been pathetic with my eating since having the slipped disk. Grrr. Anyway, the past is a different country, onwards and downwards on the scales now :)

Have made a fantastic looking bottom of the fridge tomato-based stew for DD that will do 3 and a bit meals, think the "bit" might get whizzed up and turned into pizza sauce for when she has a friend over to play for the day on Monday. I'll get them making their own lunch, what child doesn't like hm pizza?
  • My first post after lurking for ages hope I get this right - love Old Style hi everyone :hello:

    So 5 OS pleasures...

    1) Ambling about on MSE before OH got up and fired up the XBox!
    2) Cup of tea and a chat with my mum
    3) Dogwalking in the woods and catching up with all the other dogwalkers after New Year (seems everyone stayed at home)!
    4) Cooked pork fillet for tea with rosemary from mums garden
    5) Library books came in today so I can sit down with a cup of cocoa and a Jodi Picoult I think it is the newest one :j
  • {{{sunnygirl}}} - thinking of you.

    Happy 2010 everyone :D

1 - A walk on the beach this morning with children & in-laws ... three out of four children would have been drier if they'd actually gone swimming :rotfl: beautiful beautiful morning though, and we had the whole beach to ourselves to start with.

2 - getting home to a house filled with the smell of a beef joint roasting for lunch.

3 - getting klippits from dh's auntie as a Christmas present:rotfl::rotfl:- she is the queen of the random gift, but we can always use more of them.

4 - Not having to cook dinner tonight because there is just enough left from yesterday if we pad it out with a box of chocolates afterwards:rotfl:

5 - Loving the fresh New Year feeling ... feeling very positive about 2010 & full of good intentions.

(oooh.... and a sneaky 6th item ... dh said today that he thinks we should get chickens and a dog:jwhen we move house:j)
Would def recommend chickens. We have 5 and we adore them. Very cute! Get ex batts though cos you'll save them from an early death and they repay you in eggs and love!

Good evening everyone. Not too bad a day really. I didn't go to the care home at all as DH & SIL wanted to be there so I stayed at home in the warm. My five for today:

    1. Getting some more preemie knitting done. I did a Ventilator Bonnet with a flap at the top for drips, brain scans etc so the hat doesn't have to come off and make the babies heads cold :T I really enjoyed knitting it and the pattern was interesting to do.

    2. Watching some of my dvd box set of Angel that DH got me for Christmas with DD & DS3 this afternoon - perfect escapism at the moment & I love a brooding good hearted vampire :rotfl:

    3. Really tasty spicy soup with naan breads for tea followed by ice cream & tinned pears - took me back to my childhood.

    4. Did half an hours ironing in a useless attempt to keep on top of it this year :rolleyes::D

    5. With all of this going on I feel closer to DH and we are talking about all sorts of random things at random times. Makes a lovely change from the so easy to get into rut of just talking about the household stuff & work (or lack of it at the mo) Long may it continue.

Have a lovely evening all & a good Sunday tomorrow xxx

    My five pleasures for Saturday:

    1. Woke up to a clean and tidy house again. I'm determined to get more of the Flylady routines up and running really properly (I've only been on Flylady - the original US site - for about 8 years  so I reckon I ought to be putting the theory into practice a little bit more by now. :o

    2. Made a very good leftovers-plus-other-veg soup which we had with bread and cheese for lunch.

    3. Used the breadmaker again for the first time in weeks and the smell of fresh warm bread was just lovely.

    4. Did lots of sums about how much we will need to spend on fuel for the car this month - am trying to plan efficient use of it and, because of what we have going on, it's going to be expensive but it's a lot less worrysome now that I know what we are having to budget for.

    5. Loving the fact that everyone in the house seems to be pulling together on the economising front. DS1&2 are switching off lights, standbys, heating etc with great thoroughness. :D It's so nice when things start to feel easy.

I'm off to make a hottie and hot chocolate and get into bed earlier tonight - the temperature seems to be dropping - nothing above 0 degrees forcast between now and Tuesday. Sweet dreams everyone.

Im sooo cold, and sneezing, think the two may be related!

    1. Woke up to the sound of DD cleaning the kitchen and cooking brekkie, now thats a good start to the day!

    2. dragged myself to find Home Bargains in Droylesden, couldnt find it but went to charity shops and Wilkies, then on way home found home bargains further down the road. Stocked up on shampoo and sugar, got a few bits and bobs and didnt slip once! Yay wellies.

    3. made a big pot of ham and bean soup from leftover New Year ham and the beans I soaked last night. Just what I needed to warm me through.

    4. My son is starting a new job in next few weeks so am very happy about that.

    5. Am going to watch a film with my feet up and have the fire on as a treat cos I feel like pooh!

All in all a day of bargains and OS cooking.
Clearing the junk to travel light
    Saving every single penny.
