My first ever 5, starting the year as I mean to go on . . .

    1) A bit of a lie in this morning with coffee being brought in to me :D
    2) Half hour walk on the beach even tho it was freezin'!
    3) Greeting the other hardy souls, mostly with dogs - everyone so friendly.
    4) We've dug through the DVD cupboard and picked two out for tonight that we've not see for ages.
    5) Tonight sleeping under an absolutely lovely (looks new!) eiderdown found in a charity shop for only £10.

Happy New Year to one and all, and special thoughts to those people coping with adversity at the moment. Here's hoping 2010 is a fantastic year, with great ups and minimal downs!

I'm feeling a bit 'delicate' today so have lots of happy OS moments but no energy to wite them down in a coherent manner, lol. Suffice it to say that DD and I started the new year with a few lovely friends, and here's hoping that the year will continue to be a happy one :)
  • {{{sunnygirl}}} - thinking of you.

    Happy 2010 everyone :D

1 - A walk on the beach this morning with children & in-laws ... three out of four children would have been drier if they'd actually gone swimming :rotfl: beautiful beautiful morning though, and we had the whole beach to ourselves to start with.

2 - getting home to a house filled with the smell of a beef joint roasting for lunch.

3 - getting klippits from dh's auntie as a Christmas present:rotfl::rotfl:- she is the queen of the random gift, but we can always use more of them.

4 - Not having to cook dinner tonight because there is just enough left from yesterday if we pad it out with a box of chocolates afterwards:rotfl:

5 - Loving the fresh New Year feeling ... feeling very positive about 2010 & full of good intentions.

(oooh.... and a sneaky 6th item ... dh said today that he thinks we should get chickens and a dog:jwhen we move house:j)
  • Hope you have all had a lovely day :)
    My 5 for today,,,,
    1) Listened to Jamie Cullum whilst preparing the dinner, it's always a pleasure to listen to him:)
    2) setting my dinner table and making that extra special effort with leftover crackers and little presents for my grand kids.
    3) All the food cooked eaten and enjoyed.
    4) Laughing at the kids hitting a pinnata (we forgot to do it xmas day) their little faces were a picture when the sweets fell out
    5) Spending a lovely day with all my kids and my 83 year old mum we had a lovely time and made me realise we may not be rich but I have all the treasures I will ever need :)

    Happy 2010 everybody xxx

Happy New Year :D Loving reading the 2010 posts and Hiya :hello:to the new people posting. Caterina - the blinds are brilliant ('tree' too!) and I really like the colour.

    My five pleasures for Friday:

    1. My candlelit start to this year.

    2. Waking up late in a clean bed in a clean house that needed the smallest amount of tidying before it was 'landlord' ready again. I really want to keep it like this. It's a huge amount of stress lifted.

    3. DS1 coming back at lunchtime today - he'd spent last night with his gf's family - and hearing about his evening and morning.

    4. The clunk of the first £1 as it hit the bottom of the money box. :D

    5. Knitting more lovely scarf while listening to the radio (again).

    Have a good evening everyone.

Happy New Year everyone! I've enjoyed reading all your posts over the last couple of days; I really hope I can continue to find at least 5 pleasures a day when I go back to work on Tuesday ...

Caterina your roman blinds are fantastic!

Anyway, here are my 5 or so for today ...

1 Waking up on New Years Day with NO hangover (due to Bump and the knowledge that I could not look after DS1 or DS2 with a hangover!!)

2 Seeing absolutely beautiful sunshine and deciding to pack all our party food up as a picnic and we then went on a beautiful walk around some Abbey ruins; it was freezing but we ran around in the sun to warm us up and DS1 found a climbable tree!

3 Finding quite by chance the perfect pub for me to have my 40th birthday in a couple of years time; it is a medieval building, absolutely beautiful with minstrels gallery, high beamed ceilings, etc., and lots of character; I had always wanted a Medieval Wedding but everyone in my family were dead set against it and said they wouldn't dress up, etc., so I had to compromise (believe me, I wouldn't do that now, I would have exactly the day I wanted!!) so OH has promised me a Medieval 40th and I don't care if no-one else is dressing up, I shall be!!!

4 Playing Family Fortunes (although the buzzer did grate after a while and we had to confiscate it from DS1 and 2)

5 Trying Carte d'Or Caramel and Cinnamon Waffle ice-cream (1/2 price at Sainsburys) - WOW!! This is after I'd had a slice of half-price chocolate chip panettone earlier on today. Delicious. Might try both of them together tomorrow

6 Watching the Sword in the Stone snuggled up under DS2s dalmation fleece this morning (which has not yet been hacked to pieces in my attempt to make a cuddly toy dog!!)

7 Getting a lovely and very helpful pm from a fellow poster with some hints and tips and a pattern for a toy dog - much appreciated!!

8 Still three full days left till I go back to work and I have a feeling that I have already planned most of this weeks lessons!

Enjoy the rest of the holidays!!

Me again! Forgot to say, I read this this morning:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1239793/How-happy-live--best-costs-nothing.html

So the top 50 pleasures are officially simple and free!

DS1 is insistent that 'sharpening pencils' should be much higher up the list, he rates it at 2 or 1.

    Mine are:

    1) having a tidy flat... it is really quite big without all the clutter!
    2) having a friend round to stay for NYE and catching up with that has been going on over a few glasses of champagne
    3) Not having much of a hangover (though my poor friend was feeling very sorry for herself!)
    4) making jam tarts
    5) Sitting on the sofa with my two furbabes and giving them a right fuss and cuddle
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Evening all

Hope your NYD's have been peaceful and happy.

    My 5 pleasures are

1 Last night went to the local pub with about 30 family and friends. DD's and their friends were there and it was lovely how all the different age groups mixed so well and had such a good time together

2 Really good band to listen to who played a great variety of music to suit all tastes

3 Being with all that I hold nearest and dearest at midnight. This is the first year in ages that we have all been together at NY and was very enjoyable

4 all being together today for a NYD turkey dinner with all the trimmings including crackers, champagne etc. Loud and funny luch with input from all the family (at once most of the time!:rotfl:)

5 Now that they have all dispersed (sp?) sitting in lounge with Hubbie in the beautiful peace, I love to see them come but sometimes love to see them go:rotfl:

An extra one was the turkey, we have had very little this year as we did not have christmas dinner at home, and the crown was beautiful and not at all dry I have plenty left for tomorrow for another meal, have frozen lots of slices, some mash and swede and carrot for an easy work day meal next week and also made up some sandwiches and frozen them for work packed lunches Very OS and satisfying!

    Happy New Year all

    Hi All

Hope you all had a good new year.

    Mine for today:

1 Got most of my ironing done!

2 Finally sorted through my ironing basket and got rid of all the odd socks and stuff just sat in the bottom of it for years!!!

3 Went through week 1 budget (starts monday) and I have it down as £30 (£10 under budget - so extra money to pay off debt - assuming I stick to it but am feeling very positive about it right now!!!)

4 Resisted putting heating on today even though it felt very cold with more snow outside. Am sat here now wrapped up in one of the kids blankets.

5 Just about to have a hot chocolate and might even put in some marshmallows - delish :)
