Hi all
Its's my first post here but do hope to post every day if I can as I so love reading this thread. One of my New Years plans is to join in with the OS board much more instead of just being a browser! My 5 pleasures today arent very exciting and I wish we had gone out as planned but DD is poorly with the remains of the virus she has had for ages and me too, plus a bad back today..... anyway here goes.
1. Waking up to a beautiful sun shiney day feeling positive about the start of a new year.
2. A long lie in in bed , DH is always up at 5 in the week and by 8 at the weekends but today managed to get him to lie in till 10.30 which seems to have done him some good as he has been really happy today ! It was lovely just having a cuddle an d watching Anthony Bourdain ! (I very naughtily went back to sleep till 12 while he walked the dogs, cant remember the last time i stayed in bed that long!).
3. 2 lovely meals, cooked breakfast at lunch time using some reduced bargains from Morrisons yesterday and a lovely dinner of salad, pizza and some snacky things - yum!
4. Family time this afternoon , the 3 of us together each doing our own thing but altogether and happy - we started our Hotel Chocolat chocolate tasting selection............
5. A lovely blazing fire this evening and enjoying browsing MSE ...!
Thanks for letting me join in here , looking forward to catching up again tomorrow.0 -
5 for New Years Day. Have spent a very quiet day at home.
1) Having a bit of a lie in.
2) Having party food for lunch (and tea!) left over from yesterday.
3) Enjoyed watching a re-run of Top Gear, Dr Who and Gavin and Stacey (LOL at John Prescott!)
4) Syphoning off the last bits of damson gin.
Hmmm, can't think of 5, has been a "slow" sort of day.

Sorry I meant to wish every one a happy new year and all the very best for 2010 ! x0

Happy New Year Everyone.
We have been up at the nursing home with MIL for most of the day so I don't have loads of pleasures, but I'm pleased to report that she is sedated now & looks peaceful. DH & SIL are up there with her tonight & I've come home to look after the children (well the youngest one!)
Thank you again for all your good wishes & it has been a pleasure to sit for the last half an hour & read everyones pleasures. Thank you.
1. I finished my 1st preemie baby cardie tonight & have cast on a ventilator bonnet with gaps at the top for drips etc too.
2. My Mum is coming tomorrow for some moral support.
3. I menu planned right up to the end of January yesterday in a bid to keep busy. I'll be glad of it in the days/weeks to come I'm sure.
4. I'm grateful to the staff at the care home for all their care of MIL. Nothing is too much trouble and they have fed us and kept cups of tea going too :A
I found 4 which is pretty good going and I feel quite peaceful now too. Have a good evening and I hope that tomorrow is filled with pleasures for you all xxx
Edited to add: Caterina Your blinds are absolutely lovely! Well done.0 -
Welcome to aplaceinthesun (one of my fav tv programmes
) and hi to everyone
My 5 for the last 24 hours..
1. Enjoying time with 2 of my DGC, my DNeighbour and her DD last evening. We chatted and drank coffee while the children, who hadn't met before, all got on well and played nicely together for 2 1/2 hours, then DN and her DD went home at 10.30pm.
2. At 11.55pm I lit my candle to reflect on the closing year and the many events the world, our country, my family amd I have experienced.
3. As the New Year was rung in the DGC watched the London fireworks on television. I've told them that when they come when the weather is better we'll try to get down to London, where they've never been...yet
4. DS, his GF and No 1 son returned from their celebrations in time for lunch, which was a good old fashioned fry-up of everything I could find in the fridge and freezer. Nothing was left so it must have been good
5. Sadly DS and family left for their home oop norf a little while later but I now have the pleasure of looking forward to their next visit. Don't know when that will be but I'll start sifting away the pennies for it...my greatest pleasure is to be able to treat the family.
6. Sneaking in a 6th - the house is all back to normal and I sleep in my own bed tonight :T
Night night n God bless, take care everyone

Happy New Year everyone!
1) Last night was spent with our friends from the next street with DD and various friends popping in and out and DS and his gf staying in with us to play silly games. The half-price salmon was delicious. It fed eight of us and there is still enough left for a family meal for six on Sunday.
2) Spent today at Mum's. We have Boxing Day with his family and New Year's Day with mine. Mum had cooked venison, with all the trimmings, and it was lovely. We had a quiet day, everyone got on and we received some lovely presents.
3) Popped in to see my SIL before we got to Mum's this morning. Well, she was my SIL but it's complicated. Anyway, I've known her since school and I'm not going to give her up. We exchanged presents and made a date for a proper visit in February.
4) Brother No 2 and his wife have agreed to come over to share in the February visit. It's rare that they have the time so I'm really glad we actually set a date instead of saying, 'See you soon.'
5) DS's birthday tomorrow, all presents wrapped and the cheque is already in the bank. We are hoping to do brunch and then go bowling. Then it's pizza and chips for tea, all being well. We also have a huge birthday cake, courtesy of Mum, who is never knowingly undercatered.0 -
Happy New Year
Mine for the last 24 hours;
1. Spending New Year with some old friends and made some new ones
2. Not having to walk home from party last night as planned as friends DD gave us a lift, was very glad as was really cold

Caterina - your blinds look amazing
Sunnygirl - Just a note to say well done on your prem knitting, my DD was a prem baby so I know how much the things you make are appreciated.0 -
Good evening everybody - Welcome to all our new posters and best wishes for 2010 to everybody.
scotrae - well done you on sticking out a difficult employment situation to the end - I know it wasn't what you were contracted to do, but just look at the opportunities of experience that you went through - all good stuff to go on your current CV- good luck with the job situation and fingers crossed that something comes up very quickly. Hope you enjoy your budget trip to London :j - I'm sure you'll find lots of things to do/see.
mineallmine - I didn't see a programme about Enid Blyton recently, but it could have been a repeat of one that I've seen before - certainly a lady with 'problems' - and one of her daughter's has never been complimentary about her. Oooops definitely haven't seen it - this one was a drama. If anybody else is interested you can catch it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00nxkm8/Enid/ Thanks for that headsup - will have a look later. Wtg to your OH on continuing your 'tradition' - my first foot was my 6-2 dark-haired DS2 :j. Good Luck with the continued decluttering

Tigerlilley1980 - wd on getting your dd involved in baking - passing on OS ways to the next generation :T.
SunnyGirl - great to see you pop in to say Hi - especially as we all know how busy you are at the moment. Saying prayers for your mil and all her family right now as the next few days are going to be so hard for everybody. Good to know that your mum is coming to give you her support - I'm sure she'll find lots of ways to share your burden while you support your OH - it's what mum's do best.
scintus-macbintus - how lovely for you to catch up with your friend and the little girl you helped into the world. Hope you and your family had a good gathering. Well you learn summat new everyday - I hadn't a clue what a 'pinnata' was and had to goggle it
- seen them in Asda but never knew what they were for lol - thanks for making me do that
.
nuttybabe - good to hear that your sock bunny was much appreciated- wow you've managed to get your deccies down quickly - mine will have to be done over the weekend as all my visitors have now been and had their presents from 'under the tree'. Glad you enjoyed 'stretching your legs' - mine definitely need stretching - I've been a right lazy mare this past week
. Good Luck with the financial planning - sounds like you're off to a good start
.
sparrer - lovely to hear about you spending time with your younger dgk's. What a lovely idea to have a Midnight Feast with them :T - makes it more fun for them AND guarantees a bit of a lie-in the next day

.
bonty44 - wd on all your lovely craft-sewing :T. Good Luck with your 'doggie sewing'. What a lovely way to plan your 40th birthday party - hope it works out for you
. Wd on your New Year's Day family expedition - such a great day and would have been a shame not to have taken advantage of the good weather.
Broomstick - wd on making a start on your '£1 a day for 2010' - what a brilliant idea. Wtg on the 'first clunk' :T.
house elf - I love my morning time spent on the OS board too- Hope 2010 continues as positively as 2009 did for you and your family :j.
Kitchenbunny - wd you on splitting your minced beef up into 'sensible' portions BEFORE freezing - I can't believe that I used to freeze it in 1lb trays at one time- there's only OH and myself most of the time :rotfl:.
ACEY - Isn't it amazing how life has a habit of 'mucking up our life-plans'- but there is always another door to be opened with more opportunities that we could ever have dreamed of. lol at last year's washing up
. We watched Gavin and Stacey as well and both were  when we saw John Prescott entering the church :rotfl:.
Sublime - wd to you and your OH on wisely deciding to leave your present buying until after Christmas :T.
niksyg - wd on making your first post on here :T - good friends, free event, walking in lovely weather, and a meal to share with friends this evening - all fabulous pleasures to be had.
Caterina - what a wonderful family New Year with some Italian touches included- and your blinds are fabulous :T. Good to hear you both enjoyed your visit to 39 Steps.
Kadeeae - welcome to the thread- wd to all you hardy folks who were out walking your dogs in the snow/frost this morning :T - hope you enjoyed your dvd watching .

aplaceinthesun - :hello: and welcome - sorry to hear that your Christmas and NY have been spoiled by bugs etc. - wtg on your 'well-earned' lie-in.
Patchwork - wd you on making a 'firm arrangement' for your next visit - it's all too easy to say 'see you soon' - soon never comes. And good for you on maintaining your closeness to your sil, even if things are complicated - I'm sure she values your friendship.
Tealady - How kind of your friends DD to give you a lift home - and wd you on having a lovely lie-in.
Mine for yesterday and today:
1. Trip to the bank to double-check if I needed to add money to my a/c to avoid nasty charges for the 1st of the month - but everything was under control :j.
2. Called into Wilkos to see what they had in their 50% sale - got some Christmas ornaments to put away for next year and some goodies (Stollen Cake and Lebkuchen) for visitors.
3. Visited Asda and couldn't believe the number of whoopsies all over the store - and I've got no space in my freezers  - got enough for yesterday's lunch (prawn salad bowls 30p) and evening meal (Special boned/rolled leg of pork - £8+ for £4) and sandwiches (Ham on the Bone half price)for today.
4. Great visit from my brother and his girlfriend - they brought his daughter and her 15mth old baby with them. She was soooo young when she had the baby, but is doing well with her dad and his g/f for support. She has just rented the house next-door to her dad so she can have some independence but remain close enough when help is needed. Lovely hamper of Smellies and Foot pamper stuff AND tin of Quality Street  from them and smellies for OH.
5. DS2 arrived with dgs3 to stay for the evening. Already had the travel cot up for when he arrived - this child needs 'confining to barracks'.
6. Spent time just before midnight thinking about SunnyGirl and her family and people from my schemes who are no longer with us.
7. Could hear the church bells, lots of fireworks and the ships' hooters at Midnight - though I think some people had their watches a little fast as things seemed to start around 10 to Midnight :rotfl:. Phone calls from my DS1 and DD.
8. dgs3 got a little restless around half past midnight so turned the lights out and settled down for the night - he had me awake twice after that, but I finally managed to sleep from around 3.00 to 7.00 without him moving around.
9. DS2 arrived around 12 to collect Billy-Blue-Eyes, but stayed for around an hour and a half - I presume his g/f was having a long soak to recover from last night. OH and I then had a very lazy afternoon of dozing on the sofas and eating 'buffet style'.
10. Have now got my turkey carcasse (it had been sitting in the freezer since Christmas Evening) PLUS a chicken carcasse in the slow cooker with few carrots, celery and a quartered onion to make turkey stock - will stay on all night. Already smells delish.
11. Plans for tomorrow include a trip to Wilkos to get some plastic containers with lids on AND a Christmas Tree Bag - it can all come down this weekend as I've had quite enough of it and I can't wait to be able to close my curtains once more - the tree sticks out from the bay window and the curtains go across the bay.
Once again, special prayers for SunnyGirl and family. Love Ollie xxx0 -
A very good os New Year to all the posters and lurkers on this wonderful friendly forum. My 5 for today are.:hello:
1. Big big massive clean of the lounge. OS of course.:D
2. Heating on and washing just out of machine, so that should dry quite quickly.:money:
3. Reading eveyones blessings on here, and remembering my own. This has been a good few days, even with cold/flu thing which has now gone into my chest.
4. Made a really nice lemon drizzel cake, recipe form :A Ollie, it is wonderful. The recipe i had, had lemon curd in it, and i thought it was a bit damp IYKWIM.

Hugs to Sunnygirl, thinking of you x
And Caterina, the blinds look amazing!
My 5 for yesterday are:
1. A beautiful sunny day in Bristol, which meant I could walk over to visit my mum. It's a round trip of 5 miles so I managed to get some exercise in even though the gym was closed for New Year :T.
2. Measuring my resting heart rate and finding that for a woman of my age, it's in the top "athlete" category - so all the gym sessions must be paying off !
3. Watching "The Turn of The Screw" and "Sleep With Me", both recorded from earlier in the week - very good :j.
4. More delicious homemade veg chilli, with pitta bread, for lunch .
5. Lovely long lie-in - I didn't surface until 12...:D
Hope everyone has a good day!Life is not a dress rehearsal.0
