My five pleasures for the last day of 2009:

    1. Going for a little walk into town on my own and doing some tiny bits and pieces of shopping, posting letters etc.

    2. One of the young assistants who served me in a shop was exceptionally complementary about my fingerless mitts and then was full of admiration when I told her I'd knitted them myself. :D

    3. Having some cornish cream and fudge ice cream for pudding :o (well it was on a cheap offer).

    4. Buying a large 99p must-be-opened-with-a-can-opener money box from the 99p shop to start saving my 2010 £365 in 365 days fund. It was a Disney Winnie the Pooh one (not my style) so I have just covered it with a scrap of lovely wrapping paper and have transformed it into a thing of beauty ready for tomorrow.

    5. Doing a seriously good clean and tidy of the house this morning so that it is sparkling for the New Year.

I'm now going to light my candle and settle down for a quiet think with Bunny Too and Sparrer and anyone else who cares to join us.

    With love
    B xxx

    Happy New Year All!

Health, wealth and happiness to all!

Started this while waiting for guests to arrive last night, but got interupted, so yesterday.......

    1. Reading the posts on here and feeling all warn and fuzzy that people had actually thanked me for a post and welcomed me to the thread. Thankyou.
    2. Spending some quiet time before everyone else wakes up, just ambling through MSE.
    3. Buying lots of reduced bargains in Mr T yesterday afternoon, and being served by a lovely lad on the checkout who didn't even complain about the yellow labels not scanning very well!
    4. Starting a new New Years Eve tradition - going for a dog walk with friends along the canal into town. Stopping for hot chocolate at Cafe Rouge (20% off). Sitting outside in the cold watching the moon to drink it. The children and the dogs loved it!
    5. Supper for 10 and New Year back at our house watching the lovely Joules Holland and wishing everyone a Happy New Year!

Hope this year will be as positive as last year. Debts continue to decrease and we can start to enjoy our lives again in a simpler OS way. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! May there be plenty of OS pleasures today and every day for all of us. :) Here are my 5 OSly pleasures of today/yesterday:

    1) Not having to cook last night as we were at a friend's house and she cooked, bless her.
    2) Playing on the Wii with friends again.
    3) Breaking down a 1.1kg pack of minced beef into 6 (ish) packs of 200g for meals. As that was £3 (3 for £9 offer), that works out at 50p for DH and I for meat per meal - yay!
    4) Relaxing with DH on the sofa watching a documentary we recorded about computer animation. :)
    5) Getting my mealplans sorted for next week and reading some great ones on the mealplan thread. :)

    Cheers!

    Morning all,

Happy New year. Tis a very bright morning here, blue skies and all.

    1. Tea and toast (with bread from the bakers yum).

    2. Doing our New Year routine of a man (my loved one) walking through the house with a piece of coal and a slice of bread. Bless him he doesn't argue but does these long held family tradiitons. Something to do with bringing food and warmth I think. Anyway, the dog loved the piece of bread!

    3. Resetting some goals. We've had some work done to the house so I've had to accept that my savings target is dented a little. The positive is that it's still a mighty achievement where I'm at today.

    4. Joining the 2010 declutter thread and starting with some stuff in the bedroom.

    5. I've done a mini meal plan (covering the next few days). Will cook a turkey crown as a treat today and then streeeeetch it for a couple of meals.

    :A
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!"
Less things. Less stuff. More life.

Thinking of Sunnygirl and family this morning.

Well, its 2010 and I think its fair to say this decade will be rather different from the noughties! For me, at least. New Years Day 2000 I was still at University, married but not thinking about having children and was just starting to wonder if my marriage wasn't in fact a bit rubbish... 10 years on, I have 2 children, am divorced and still sorting out the debts, upset and mess he left behind, had to leave my job (and career) once I could no longer remortgage the house to pay my legal fees, am retraining - quite a few changes!

Anyway, 5 for New Years Eve.

    1) Had a MASSIVE clean and tidy up, hoovering, washing, cleaned the bathroom and kitchen.

    2) Sons and I used their new biscuit making kit with dalek cutter. (I wish I knew how to link or paste photos on here, its on my Facebook page). I couldn't get on with the mixture in the kit so we scrapped it and made shortbread daleks!

    3) 2 Freecycle ladies appeared, one to take our old armbands and the other to take a binliner full of teddies that bigger son no longer wanted all over his bed.

    4) We went to a bonfire party at our friends house that was fab. That was from 5-8pm.

    5) Then we had a party at our house, we 3, my 2 siblings and my friend from school. Lots of food, a bit of Jools Holland and much playing on the Wii. :-)

Must get on and do last year's washing up!!

    Happy New Year.

A very happy New Year to all my OS friends! May it be a fab year for you all.

    My five are:

    1. Having a great time seeing in the New Year at a pub here in Bristol, with friends .

    2. My friend being rather drunk and telling me how she loves me and how she'll miss me when I go on my big trip. She's so funny when she's had a few...and it happens quite often...:rotfl:

    3. Watching the fantastic fireworks in Sydney and London on TV, and seeing the local ones here in Bristol.

    4. A fab veg chilli done in my slow cooker :j.

    5. Finishing my short story at long last (I think...! There's always scope for more amendments).
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

    Happy New Year everybody!

Sunnygirl sorry to hear about your MIL. I lost two close family members near christmas a few years ago, so big hugs from me xxx.

    Mine for today are:

    1. Waking up after a really good nights sleep to a cup of tea, with bacon and crumpets cooked by OH. Lovely.

    2. Having a whole Lush 'ruby slipper' bubble bar in my bath this morning. OH had gone there yesterday and came back with loads of goodies, as we decided to wait until after christmas this year. He spent £20, and got a bag with £20 full of stuff free, so £40 worth of goodies from one of my favourite shops. I'm very happy.

    3. Its been snowing! We had some a couple of weeks ago, which melted, so its nice to see a light covering everywhere.

    4. Going for a walk with my children, and having snowballs thrown at me, by my 5 year old. Its not something I really like, but she gets such good pleasure out of it, that its good.

    5. I had forgotten to take anything out of the freezer for today, so I was pleasantly surprised to find some shops open nearby. I bagged the last two chickens (with 20% off even better), and have now got one in my SC with some red wine, garlic, onions, and rosemary.

Have been lurking without posting for ages but a New Year demands some more attempts at recognising all the positives in my life so here goes - -

    1. Seeing the New Year in with friends
    2. Spending this morning at a Classic Car gathering for free!
    3. Having a lovely walk with OH in the frosty sunshine
    4. Cooking a 'Jamie' pork recipe with a huge hunk of reduced belly pork for friends this evening
    5. Having a rather good cup of tea in my massive new mug a friend got me for Christmas

    Happy New Year all!

My thoughts and prayers to Sunnygirl, her MiL and family (((HUGS))).

Happy New Year everybody, I did not post yesterday because I have been out and about and here are my pleasures for the last two days:

    31st Dec:

1 - Long lie-in and cup of tea in bed courtesy of DH (had planned to go to pick up M&S party bits and pieces but decided I soooo couldn't be bovver'd!).

2 - Later in the morning I did go to pick up the M&S bits and they still had plenty of the veggie choices so just as well I did not dash there at 8:30 am! Had to get more than planned because unexpectedly DS and his friend declared that they were having dinner at home!

3 - DH and I had a light lunch out at ITSU in central London (part of our NYE treat as we were planning the evening at home).

4 - Continuing our NYE treat, we went to see the Matinee of The 39 Steps at the Criterion Theatre in Piccadilly Circus. Very very funny, lovely production, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

5 - Back home at 5:30pm, unexpectedly DD and her BF declared that they, too, were having dinner at home! Got on the first bus up the hill with only minutes to get to M&S by 6pm and managed to get there in time to get a few more bits and pieces, yellow stickered!

6 - Meanwhile DH was cooking the lentils (eating lentils on NYE is an Italian tradition, lentils represent money and wealth, as do grapes, which I also bought for the occasion).

7 - Back from M&S, managed to finish off lentils and put party bits in oven and we had an impromptu mini-dinner party with all the young people, it was even more lovely for being an unexpected treat.

8 - We also drank the bottle of champagne that a friend of mine had given me more than two years ago for my 50th birthday and that I hadn't yet drank!

9 - Kids and their friends off, DH and I peacefully spent the remainder of the evening watching DVDs, TV and eventually midnight caught us in bed, companionably reading side by side and drinking Roiboosch tea. Great, peaceful welcome to 2010!

    1st Jan 2010

1 - Woke up and saw the sun shining, what a lovely day!

2 - Porridge with figs and dates in bed, with tea, courtesy of DH. This porridge is fast becoming one of his "Signature dishes"!

3 - Pleasant walk to Greenwich Park with DH in the sunshine.

4 - DH and I shared a very nice Olive Focaccia bread that we bought in Greenwich for late lunch (past 3pm!).

5 - Back home, received a call from our friends who live down the road, inviting us to share their stuffed pumpkin. I offered to contribute leftover lentil stew. Dinner sorted, in good company, too!

Hope you all have a great evening on the first day of the year xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Hi again all

At long last I have the blinds pictures (those I made using DH's aunt's old curtains) on the web, I am trying to post them here, one with the open and the other with the closed blinds.

I put them on earlier but they were so big that they took an enormous amount of space, so now I have a link on flickr if anyone wants to admire them, here is the link, hope it works:

    MY HOMEMADE ROMAN BLINDS:

    no longer there sorry

Yes it worked, great, this means I am not going to clog up the whole forum with 3MB of pictures.

Incidentally, you can also see at the left of the pictures my homemade "sticks" Crhistmas tree, which is something we have done last year as well, just decorate sticks to avoid killing a tree (which always happens when we buy a live one) or buy a ready-killed one. Many of the decorations are handmade and homemade, too!
