5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Hello,
Missed posting yesterday as our computer was not working properly but I seemed to have been able to fix it:T. My pleasures for the last couple of days:
1. Spending less than £10 on food shopping this week as had loads of stuff in which we have been using up.
2. Going saleshopping with DD and managing to get a few birthday presents for next month plus a couple of bits to put away for next christmas
3. Lovely Sausage sandwiches for Breakfast today, also meant nobody wanted lunch
4. Cheap evening out with OH and DD to see a film followed by a cheap pizza
5. Finally filling our loose change jar - it is huge. We all spent the evening counting and bagging it, all £304:T. Just need to decide what to spend it on. To be used for a family treat, originally planned for a day out but with the amount will be able to plan a weekend away.
6. Fixing the computer myself:T
7. Lovely lie ins will be back to early mornings next week
Hope everyone has a lovely evening tomorrow and best wishes to you all for the New Year.0 -
Bonty - do you have a picture of the polar bear you made? It sounds adorable!
Tealady - well done on the change jar! I need to count ours up, actually, but there'll be nowhere near as much as you collected
Here are my 5 for yesterday/today so far:
1) Getting a full night's sleep. I hate coldsbut at least I managed a full 7 or 8 hours once I'd put my dressing gown under my pillow to boost my head up a bit.
2) Getting a free rental token and watching a nice film with it.
3) Sorting out all of my clothes drawers and freeing one up. I now have 2 bags of clothes I no longer want just ready to go to the charity shop.
4) Not having to cook tonight. It feels like I've spent most of Christmas and New Year so far doing all the cooking. As we're going out, I'll not have to cook. Bliss!
5) Not actually wanting to drink any fizzy pop, preferring instead hot tea or water. It started out that fizzy or strongly flavoured drinks aggravated my throat, but now I think I'd rather have a cuppa or some water - how OS!
Best wishes for the New Year, and have a safe and happy night tonight. I'm hoping we do, and that we all do.

All these moments of pleasure are so inspiring that I've decided to post mine today and not be so lazy
1. Beginning to knit my fist sock using a circular needle. I CAN do it.
2. Making the most delicious soup out of pulses, veggies that needed using up, potatoes and a couple of small beef bones (which cost 25p). Tasted amazing and the dogs got the bones at the end.
3.Joined the January Grocery Challenge and feeling quietly confident.
4. Got into the habit of wearing lots of layers, including leg-warmers. Seem to be using the heating a bit less.
5.Still got that warm, fuzzy feeling from my 'no spend' day.
A happy,thrifty and fun New Year to all0 -
'morning everybody :hello: - see if I can get through today's posting without beggaring it up again
.
LittleBrownFrog - Hope you enjoyed your trip to Mousehole and the Moussaka - you well deserve it for being a busy girl. Love the description of the 'amazing sleepless milk monster' :rotfl:.
bunny too - what makes it worse is that moment of realisation when you KNOW that you've done it but having to wait a couple of seconds while it vanishes and being unable to do anything about it but watch while it happens. Sorry to hear that your cold thingy is worse - I've sent you the Recipe for the Lemon Drizzle Cake - maybe the VitC might help. I grew Coriander outdoors last year - it seemed to go forever but produced too much for me to use lol. Going to have another go in tubs on the window ledge so I don't have to keep going outside to pick the things.
Caterina - What a lovely weekend away for you and DH - after the disappointment of not getting your last trip - but you're right, there's nothing quite like your own bed.
Kitchenbunny - sorry to hear that your cold is over-staying its welcome, as well. These new batches of germs just don't seem to observing the correct etiquette of only hanging around long enough to be a bit of a nuisance and then disappear  - take care hun. I'm another who feels as though I've spent all the holiday period in the kitchen with non-stop visitors - oh well wonder if we'll get some invites back in return ........... (won't hold my breath though).
mineallmine - Ferrero Rocher hiding within the branches of the tree  - definitely wouldn't get chance in this house.
Patchwork - I reckon that must be the only perk to having teens in the home - the fact that they DON'T have you out of bed at the crack of dawn. On the other hand, I do remember the sitting up till all hours wondering where they were and, more importantly, WHAT THEY WERE UP TO . Wd on completing your OU short story :T.
BitsyBeans - well done on your wonderful unexpected evening at the friend's house - sounds like he pulled out all the stops for that 'do'.
bonty44 - wd on the sock monkey - you've been busy :T. Good Luck to your friend - first christmas without your partner has to be the hardest one - especially if you have children.
scintus-macbintus - your OH sounds like mine  - he's another who wants to know 'how come everybody comes to us for feeding'. As we don't have a car, the answer is pretty darn obvious :rotfl:.
bella - mmmm Carrot and Coriander Soup - my favourite .
Broomstick - wd on sorting your Spreadsheet - they are great when you get into the discipline of regular updating the info in them - specially as they will work out the necessary calculations each time.
ACEY - wd on continuing your swimming sessions with your boys and your brother. Know what you mean about the tree - I'm waiting for my final visitors to have been this afternoon and then I think mine can come down again. Though babysitting tonight, so may leave it as a job for tomorrow morning.
angeltreats - wd on getting a filter coffee machine - now your job is to find a ground coffee that tastes as good as those that you get in the coffee shops lol. Places like Cafe Nero do sell the coffees that they serve in the shops - but they are expensive. I'm currently using an 'Asda Everyday Decaff Coffee' but it isn't a strong one - think it's a '3'. Good luck with the Bonsai Classes - they're fascinating.
Broomstick - I love re-reading old favourite children's books when I'm under-the-weather - that's when I dig out my Enid Blyton's.
nuttybabe - well done on showing self-restraint while shopping :T and also on the 'sock rabbit' lol. Those transformers are just too complicated for us adults - best left to the kids to sort out  - remember them well FIRST time round.
Tealady - wtg on fixing your comp - know how you feel - hate mine being out of action . WD on the loose change jar - what a great amount of money to collect in 'slummy' - if it were mine, I'd use it for a lump sum deposit off my holiday.
budgeteer - welcome to the thread and wd on knitting your first sock on a circular needle - never got the hang of those as I like to knit with my right needle under my arm-pit lol. Wtg on your 'no spend day'.
Mine for the past couple of days:
1. Back into the swing of things in work this week - though they've all been very quiet and well-behaved - hope they stay that way tonight.
2. Had more visitors on Tues (OH's brother, sister, her OH and 2dd's (6 and 2yrs). Buffet afternoon tea - unfortunately not all home-made as I was technically 'on-duty' but delicious anyway. I got the Leonard Cohen dvd that I was hoping OH had got me - so I'm a very happy Ollie.
3. More visitors today, my brother and his g/f due this afternoon - not sure if he'll also bring his grand-daughter with them. I bumped into them while shopping a couple of weeksago - don't get to see him very often due to our work schedules - he's a long-distance driver.
4. DS2 asked us to baby-sit so have got Bouncing Billy-Blue-Eyes (16mths) coming early evening - please Lord let him sleep through for me.
5. Yesterday I made a start on clearing out cupboards in the kitchen - oh dear - 2 packs of Grassini Bread Sticks (Sept 2008)/Pack of Oatcakes (July 2007)/Pack of those Rice Crispbreads that look like thin sheets of polystyrene (Nov 2007)- the local seagulls enjoyed them :rotfl:.
6. Did a home-made Minced Beef Chilli for evening meal yesterday and emptied the dregs of a bottle of brown sauce and a left-over tub of sweet chilli dipping sauce into it - definitely had an 'extra kick' to it .
Better go and get ready for work now - can't sit here all day.
Have a good day andto everybody - love Ollie xxx

thanks for that message - will do. Please let her know that we're thinking of her and the family.0 -
I've already forgotten yesterday's so can I adapt this for this one post, to put my 5 OS pleasures for 2009?
1. Sticking an incredibly challenging difficult job out to the end, rather than jumping ship when things got tough. I was put in far too many job roles for one person when a couple of other people left, so I had responsibility that I'd never have applied for ... but stuck with it til they made us all redundant, even though I could see it coming.
2. My sons making so much progress and lovely new friends at their new school. It was a major step but I've moved on from bitterness that "it shouldn't have been necessary" to just being thankful that we did move them because it's been the making of them in so many ways. I'm very proud of them but don't always appreciate it til we're out with them and people comment on how polite and lovely they are. (Teary-eyed-soppy-mum sitting here.)
3. My fruity adaptations of 'Twinks' hobnobs and variations on my very basic fairy cakes becoming legendary with my sons and their friends, who have started to put requests in for them. (It's not done my waistline any good mind you!)
4. In the two months since my redundancy, spotting so many tips and bargains on MSE that I was able to buy some wonderful Christmas gifts (and make a few too) even though I kept costs down.
5. Discovering the Flylady thread. It's fallen by the wayside in recent weeks but it made such a difference over a few weeks and I know where to find it next Monday.
We're off for a budget break (£12 Travelodge rooms) to London for the next few days so I shan't post again til Sunday night (possibly). In the meantime, a very happy new year to you all.
May you all be safe, healthy and blessed and rejoice in life's little (or large) OS pleasures. Take care, friends ...

Thank you, NPM. I will say a prayer for her and her family.

Thanks for the message NoahsPM, much appreciated. SunnyGirl has had a lot to deal with, I think it was dad who had a stroke this year too. Sending calming prayers and thoughts.

Morning,
1. Using some turkey slices (from a pack) that were about to go out of date. Had with some rolls from the bakers and some M&S onion chutney.
2. Watching Live at the Apollo on the cable channel Dave. Very funny. Watched one after the other.
3. Some healthy yogurts from Waitrose (eg Lemon Curd, Hazelnut etc) rather than buying heavy cakes (even though they were reduced in price).
4. Catching up on here, reading about weekends away. Must look to arrange something myself.
5. Sorting out some stuff for charity. Must try and drop stuff off at different charity shops. Some struggle more than others (particularly based on where they are located, near parking etc).
Ollie, did you see that programme about Enid Blyton, crikey! It was shocking.
