5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

You are all so welcoming and friendly on this thread, thank you for your kind comments!
My five for today are ...
1) Helping DS2 make a 'cosy den' for his toy polar bears (old tea box and lots of cotton wool!!)
2) tuning into the radio and hearing 'Love Letters' by Alison Moyet - I haven't heard that song for about 15 - 20 years but still knew every word and was so moved by hearing it again that I sat in the car with tears streaming down my face, really really made my day to hear such a fantastic song
3) Finding the 'Dangerous Book for Boys' at £5 in WHSmiths today, DS1 and I have made a paper hat / paper boat / played squares and read through the 'list of books every boy should read' - he also let me write him a very loving dedication in the front; I think this has become his top Xmas present! He said 'Wow, Mummy, this is the kind of book I can look after always and when I grow up even more of it will be interesting'. What a star he is.
4) Enjoying a lovely cup of homemade gingebread latte
5) Finishing a 100 piece jigsaw puzzle with DS1 this morning; it was what we woke up to do and we snuggled up under the duvet until it was done, really lovely times.
And a couple of others ... buying all my 2010 Xmas Cards from Barnados and Cancer Research this afternoon and explaining to DS1 and DS2 that it was MUCH better to buy them from a charity shop than a supermarket where only 10% of the profit goes to the charity involved. And finding some lovely bone china mugs in Waitrose which I can fill with homemade chocolates and biscotti for teachers, classroom assistants, etc., for Christmas next year.
Wow, I really can't wait to see what pleasures tomorrow brings.0 -
Hiya all
Right, mine for today:
1 Dh saving the day, had to get our drains unblocked only to discover they had collapsed and the insurance company said we were not covered as did not have accidental cover. Dh got on phone to them (after I got very upset) and they listened back to the phone call and as they did not tell me about the cover when I went with them they have agreed to back date the extra accidental cover so we can claim on it for the drain! Such a huge relief!!
2 Chilling out this afternoon knitting to get over the shock of the morning!!!
3 Kids played nice all day with no tv on.
4 Went through our food budget for next year and think we can cope on £40 a week for the 5 of us. I really hope we can but I do have a bit spare if not but want to put that to one side for xmas, I will be organised this year! So now I have meal plans and shopping lists and budgets and feeling alot happier about coping.
5 Got some stuff on ebay. Only 4 things but its a start. I will declutter the house this year and hopefully get a bit of money doing so!
So lots of planning for 2010 today after all the worrying of the drain this morning!0 -
3 Tonights tea was made up of fridge left-overs - pasta with cheese and gammon sauce made with leftover cream0

Mine are:
1. A good session in the gym, with 40 minutes of cardio.
2. Homemade cauliflower and ginger soup, with a homemade herby roll for lunch.
3. Getting my finances sorted, with January's budget done.
4. More work on my short story - just doing final tweaks now - it's nearly there!
5. Sorting out most of the junk in my spare bedroom.
Hope everyone is well :hello:Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Today was a nice day!
1. Yet another person has asked for my Christmas fridge cake recipe! I gave batches as presents and it was very well-received.
2. Finally decided on a filter coffee machine to buy with my Christmas money and managed to find it on sale for £25 which is fantastic - DH is picking it up for me tomorrow.
3. Been to the library and borrowed lots of cookbooks I haven't read before, including Nigella's Forever Summer and two about making ice cream.
4. No frost last night, so for the first time in a couple of weeks I was able to jump straight into the car this morning and drive to work with no defrosting required
5. Lasagne for dinner - I made it yesterday and it always tastes better the next day.0 -
Good evening everyone it's great to hear all your pleasures
my 5
1) nice lie in bed with cuppa
2) listed stuff on ebay
3) made thank you cards with 3 of my grandkids
4) very chilled out afternoon on my own with laptop
5) spent evening snuggled up with my lovely hubby drinking cider
happy days everyone xx0 -
Thanks Ollie this cold is being a pest. Yesterday I really thought it was on the way out but today all my tubes are bunged and I have a sore/painful eye - residual infection I suppose.
However I managed to find some pleasures.
1. Walking to shops with DH to get some buttons for a cardigan I've nearly finished.
2. Finding a book in a charity shop that I've been wanting to read for ages but had forgotten all about, the first one by Kate Moreton. There it was on top of the 50p basket and I wasn't even looking as I had gone in to look for cook books.
3. More leftovers for lunch, this holiday food is lasting all week.
4. Lovely cream of cabbage soup for the freezer.
5. Our meal tonight was half of the 20p pack of kidneys I bought in Mr. A. yesterday and half the pack of 20p potatoes (with added veg). Should win me a medal for thrift, but no it was eaten just like any other meal would be. If I couln't share my OS pleasures with you peeps (and DD who is an OS gem) I think I would throw in the sponge as all my efforts just get lost in the ether here.

Evening all!! [i feel like dixon of dock green! remember him??]
Had a lovely day, walked to shops, round town and back home after going for starving blood test first thing [uurgh!] and the day has got better!
# had a cooked brekkie in town, and it was lovely as i didnt cook it, i was sooo hungry and back on the sensible eating tomorrow.
# treated myself to a pair of snow boots in the mountaineering shop, hot pink and £25 half price!! so i wont slip with the next lot of ice and snow, woohoo!
# got a beautiful calender with different pics of lovely lurcher dogs on ,again 1/2 price
# picked up a freecycle stairgate for when i get my puppy,
# at last have managed to encourage 3 other family members to join skype, including a cousin who lives in spain now, we were brought up together until i was 7 [now i'm 61] and we are still close like brother and sister. great to see and speak to him this evening.
So... dance as if no one was watching, sing as if no one was listening, and enjoy...

mine for the last few days since xmas day
1) spending time with DD and DGDs on boxing day, long walk into town with them, and treating them to lunch out, well DD and DGD1 as the other is too little to do lunch lol
2) taking parents out for lunch, very OS as my dad insisted on paying, did feel a bit guilty suggesting lunch out and then him paying but he says its just nice that someone takes them out.
3) seeing my DS and his DF, spent a lovely evening with them just chatting
4) seeing the sea, I lived on the coast for 20 years and it wasn't till I moved away that I realised how much I missed the sea. It was night time and very cold, OH parked so we could sit in the car, I just sat and watched the waves crashing for ages
5) back to work today, OH is not back till next week, he has done tidying up and 2 loads of washing, met me from work and not very OS took me out for tea. Made up for having to go back to work lolwhoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

Bonty - your DS sounds as gorgeous as my DD
1. Being given some ice lolly moulds by a kind freecycler this morning, I have had them on my wish list for ages, but of course with it being the bleak midwinter....we're thinking of juicing some fruit tomorrow, yum yum!
2. DD having a "new" friend over to play this afternoon and me getting to know his lovely mummy too.
3. Sitting by candle and christmas tree light to watch Triffids....I think I preferred the 1980's adaptation, but am enjoying it anyway
4. Having friends over is a good thing - DD and I cleaned and tidied the house up more than it has been in ages. Okay, so we only did the downstairs and my bedroom looks like a bomb hit it so I'll probably sleep in the spare room (again), but it's a start ;0)
5. Being reasonably sensible today, and emptying out my online shopping baskets of things that I don't really need, and after pondering overnight, don't really want! It didn't stop me picking up a couple of bits cheaper in Mr T's than at M&$ earlier though....0
