    Hiya

    Mine for today:

1 Having a sparkly clean kitchen again. Always makes me feel happier when kitchen is clean.

2 2 pairs of jeans for £2 as per grabbit board - I wanted some new jeans since reaching my target weight as all my jeans are so old and worn and have paint stains on, yes, every single pair of jeans has a paint stain on.

3 Dh giving me and kids a lift to a birthday party as still pretty icy here (pavement like an ice rink and so was car park for party!!)

4 Kids running round having a brilliant time at the party. Ds2 kept finding me just to say 'love you mummy' before racing off again. So cute!

5 Kids so worn out they had an early night with no arguments! So I can do some knitting.

Hope everyone has a good evening.
  • 1) A lie-in!
    2) Having a hug from a friend and being thanked for the home-made goodies in her present.
    3) Coffee date with DH. I thought he might go back to work today as there is a deadline looming but he decided not to.
    4) Lazing around eating chocolates and reading the More with Less book. I really should do this every year. It's so much in tune with the OS philosophy that I would recommend it ISBN 0 340 27236 8
    5) Day of the Triffids on tv tonight. I really enjoyed the old tv series so it will be interesting to see what this one is like.

    5 for today:

    1) Popping out to Sainsburys. Haven't been food shopping since well before Christmas so was nice to stock up.

    2) Having lunch at Sainsburys!

    3) Going swimming this afternoon and little son diving in!

    4) Baked potatoes left in the oven, ready for us as soon as we walked in the door (for tea).

    5) Watching Not The Nine O'Clock News again, after all these years :-)

It's lovely to catch up with everyone as you gradually return after the first round of the festivities. There are some really lovely posts from the past 24 hours. Thank you for sharing your reasons to be cheerful!

    1. Heading into town and finding a 2-pack of spotty night-chemises in lovely soft cotton and size 16. It was just nice to have some clothes that fit since I've gained so much weight!

    2. An hour or so home alone (boys borrowed by Grandma for a meal out and DH out too), catching up with a little sweeping and washing up. (A bargain Take That CD on very loud and singing along shamelessly!)

    3. DH returning and us realising it was mid-afternoon and our children wouldn't be home for at least an hour. Decided to take advantage of the situation ;)... until we heard persistent knocking at the door. As we tried to peep through the curtains to see who it was, I heard the young and indignent voice of our sons' pal from across the road shouting through the letterbox "I CAN hear you in there you know!" I THINK he thought my boys were home but hiding from him - so I called downstairs that I was just getting out of the shower and that seemed to frighten him off.

    4. Making a delicious turkey, bacon and leek pie. The boys were stuffed when they got home (9-y-o son had an 8oz steak with scampi, chips and a side order of onion rings out with Grandma) so it was just DH and I for that one but the leftovers will be gorgeous cold tomorrow.

    5. Getting an unexpected message from an old school friend to meet in town in 20 minutes time, as she had some gorgeous outfits for me to try on for a do I'd mentioned on Facebk. We hadn't actually seen one another for almost 20 years but neither had changed that much (OK - a few dress sizes perhaps). I can't wait to try them on in the comfort of my own home and see if I can be a bit more daring than usual this time. How kind of her though!

Hello everyone, glad to read so many people had a lovely OS christmas :)

    Mine for recent days:

    1. Being very treated by my family - lovely slippers, socks, smellies, gloves, and some money so I can get someone in to diagnose and fix my cooker (various element(s) haven't been working for rather a long time). Shame I'll need to clean it first ;)

    2. DD being a little gorgeous, wonderful girl, she loved and appreciated every single one of her presents, and keeps on coming up, giving me a cuddle and saying I love my X, Y or Z :)

    3. Buying all the wrapping paper, cards, presents for school teachers, and a few bits for DD for next Christmas in the sales. From chatting to the assistants in the various shops, it sounds like many, many people are doing this this year - in previous years, I've felt like people regarded me as a freak for doing this, now I'm amongst friends, lol.

    4. Coming home today, whilst it's lovely to be at my parents, they look after us and it's nice to have people to chat to once DD is asleep, it's great to be back in our own space.

    5. I'm enjoying doing my traditional between Christmas and New Year sort out of cupboards, putting things in the loft, taking bits to recycling etc etc, it's my spring clean time, and makes me feel good.

I know I've got many more, but can't think now, need to get to bed...night all.

Bonty44 - the fingerprint robins are a lovely idea (it's given me the idea for a different fingerprint picture, so thank you for that too!)

    My five pleasures for Monday:

    1. Making inroads into sorting and tidying the latest paperwork mountain and getting going on a spreadsheet for our 2010's finances. Very pleased with myself because I've worked out how to total columns in Excel.

    2. 3 NSDs in a row.

    3. Following up the link to the Instructables.com website from another thread and laughing heaps with the children about some of the things people have made eg. a hoodie out of duct tape, a crocheted hat with a moustache attached and dung beetle truffles - immensely silly and creative, and some ideas we might even follow up .

    4. Getting out to Mr S an hour before it shut to pick up some more milk and the place was almost empty so we had a quick look at the sales stuff in glorious isolation, decided we didn't want/need anything, except for a silly calendar that DS1 bought for £1.50. He'd resisted the £10 ones before Xmas and was terribly pleased with today's bargain. :D

    5. Sitting wrapped in a blanket, knitting my scarf and listening to iplayer radio programme about the The Kalevala (Finland's National Epic poem) followed by David Tennant's Desert Island Discs. Bit of a mix but jolly good listening.

Must get to bed. Sweet dreams.

Good morning all  - ooooh what a difference this morning - lots of sparkly bits on the roads/pavements again - it's been 'almost balmy' here since about Christmas Eve ;).

grandmasam - isn't it great that we are OS but can still enjoy today's technology to our advantage - wd you on 'spending time' with your family in their homes .
scintus-macbintus - hope your dgd and family enjoyed her 1st birthday celebrate2.gif:). Great family day out there .
savingforoz - your nut roast sounds  - we've had a couple of 'meat-free' days this week - seem to find the need for these as we get older .
bella - sorry to hear that your cold is NOT behaving as it should - hopefully it should be showing signs of shifting/easing a little by now. The good thing is that you had a great excuse for two snoozes on the bed ;). wd on finding some of the reductions in Asda ;) - looks like you've saved some for me then .
nuttybabe - :T to your OH for shifting the 'Christmas debris' to the tip so quickly. Wd you on needing some new jeans due to losing so much weight :j
ACEY - :T to your little water baby - he's doing brilliantly - wonderful hobby, keeping fit and potential life-saving .
Broomstick - wd you on focusing on saving/earning/reducing expenditure for 2010. I've been musing on the subject BUT need to concentrate properly and talk to OH about the subject. I'll have my candle ready early on New Year's Eve. wd on coming to terms with Excel - very useful once you get used to it .
scotrae - your salmon, salad and french baguette sounds lovely - tasty but not over-loading :). How lovely of grandma to 'borrow your boys' ;).
elizabunny - sorry to hear that your DM still isn't very well - hope she improves a little over the next few days. Your Christmas Eve sounded lovely.
Kitchenbunny - congrats on your self-restraint in the sales :T. Looks like you may have caught bella's head%20cold.gif - hope it doesn't stay with you for too long.
BitsyBeans - :T to your kids for not letting you down over Christmas Lunch at your mum&dad's  and wd to your mum for the food parcels (what else are us mums for ;)). wd to you and your OH for thinking about next Christmas now. Kids do often get too many toys and, as you say - often don't 'form attachments' to them. How about spending some of the Christmas budget on paying the deposit for your family holiday - that way it's a present for you all AND it gets you 'on the way' towards your holiday.
bunny too - sounds like you enjoyed your pamper morning - I've got lots of smellies so will try to indulge in a really long, luxurious bathtub.gif or HSsingshower.gif at the weekend!
Tealady - welcome back from your mil's and how lovely to have somebody else prepare all the food. Sorry to hear about your dad's fall on the ice - but he was really lucky it was only bruising.
sparrer - never actually done braising steak in the SC myself, maybe it needed onions/veggies/stockcube, but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it very quickly. I'll also have my candle ready and, like you, I could be baby-sitting - possibly Dylan The Villain and Billy-Blue-Eyes.
bonty44 - Welcome to you  - what a lovely memory of your walk with your DS2 and a great way of making very personal 'thank you cards'.
angeltreats - wd you on all your lovely OS pressies and good for you over the iPod :T.
Patchwork - wd on your 'restful' day - great when we get the chance of doing that.
Kittikins - welcome back from your Christmas visiting. How sweet of your dd in showing her appreciation of all that you do for her  - and wd you on making a good start on next year's gift-buying.

Mine for the past couple of days:

    1. Had a lovely few hours at DD's on Sunday. DS2, his g/f and dgs 2&3 were there as well, as dgs2 was staying overnight to keep dgs1 company. Took her a food parcel as I wasn't sure how well she was stocked for visitors. Was lovely to be waited on. After DS2 left, DS1 arrived with his g/f and her little boy for the evening. DS2 brought me back home again later .

    2. Totally lazy Monday - nibbling on cheese and crackers and fruit. Got off the sofa for 10 mins to put some laundry in the washer. Later got off again to put it on the airers/radiator rails. Watched Emmerdale and Corrie.

    3. OH made jacket potatoes with tuna mayo - :j.

    4. Baked 2 Lemon Drizzles as we've got visitors coming again today - one of them for a present.

    5. Really enjoyed reading everybody's posts and am looking forward to lighting our New Year Candles now. I'm going to light mine around 11.45 to give me chance to slow down and think about a few people no longer with us.

I'm back in work today, so need to go and get ready - got my daily calls to do.

speak again later, love Ollie xxx
  • Thankfully, the sore throat isn't quite as bad today. :) I feel all accomplished today as I've managed to get a lot done and I'm now sat down watching cooking programmes. Yay! I've done a good bit of decluttering in the bedroom and also in the fridge, washed the kitchen floor, been to the shop and spent a little Christmas money and done a mountain of washing up. To do this afternoon, is the rest of the ironing, the hoovering and then maybe a sit down before we go to Mum's a bit later. :) Here's my 5 pleasures:

    1) Turning some leftover cocktail sausages and a leftover burger into chopped meat to go on the top of pizzas. It's now in a little bag in the freezer waiting for the next time I make a pizza. :)

    2) Discovering via the OS Forums you can freeze cream and putting a half carton into the freezer (poured into ice cube trays) for sauces.

    3) A good night's sleep after playing on the Wii for most of yesterday afternoon. I'm all danced out!

    4) Having a great time dancing with friends and generally catching up.

    5) Having a busy day but also a restful one (if that makes sense!)

Have a good day everyone :)

    Kitchenbunny xx

    1. dh taking the children out for a couple of hours so that I can tidy up in peace.
    2. spending half an hour salvaging what I can of the wrapping paper for festive craftiness next year.
    3. a bit of peace and quiet to get my teeth into my latest knitting project - a new wool soaker for dd2, using a different (and scarier) pattern to usual.
    4. very nice beef stew in the slow cooker - made with leftover beef & pretty much every vegetable left in the fridge - and tasting lovely thanks to some old-style help
    5. starting my January meal plan / shopping list & realising that I already have lots of meals in the freezer.

    Evening

Not posted for a day or two, been busy doing nothing much with OH:D

1 Days of work being spent with OH, he is normally a workoholic and it has been so nice spending time together just chilling!

2 Because he is usually at work I tend to have to do everything in the house myself and it has been so nice having someone "muck in"

3 Tonights tea was made up of fridge left-overs - pasta with cheese and gammon sauce made with leftover cream, various cheese bits and last of the gammon joint - was absolutely delicious but dread to think what the calorie content would be, good job not restarting diet until new year:D:rolleyes:

4 Have caught up with old friends over the past few days, has been really lovely to see them all

5 Being snuggly and warm in front of the TV watching all the Christmas films, has been some rubbish on but here and there the odd gem

Hope you all keep warm and happy this evening
