Do you know what Ollie, I was so dissapointed . I thought ds1 (5) would have been bouncing on the bed at 5am but nothing!!!
Mine for today
1 Another lie in - kids stayed up late as it was xmas!
2 Lots of food in house so dont need to go out until Monday when I take kids to a birthday party (still snow and ice here so I dont want to leave the house)
3 Froze 5 portions of turkey curry (used cold turkey, cold curry sauce and cold leftover veg and pots from yesterday as I was worried that if I heated it then froze it and then heated it again it might be a bit dodgy) so now I have some quick hot lunches!
4 Eating lots of left over turkey so easy lunch/tea for me!
5 Back to my sewing! Making a sock monkey which I will probably give to my mum to sell at a craft fair!
Thats it for today.0 -
Good evening!
Another wonderful day!
1. Online sale shopping with gift vouchers
2. Playing with DD
3. Watching bad TV
4. Staying in my PJs all day
5. A delicious dinner made by DH again
6. Made a huge payment off my credit card yay
Tomorrow I am looking forward to hitting the sales, I have a list and if what I want is not in the shops then no pennies will be spent.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Mine for the last couple of days.
1) this is the biggie, don't know if you would call it an OS pleasure, but without it I wouldn't have had any. It was the breakdown man fixing our car after breaking down on the M40 at 9 o/c Christmas morning, we had left at 6 in the morning to travel down south to spend Christmas with my family.#
2) my DSis and BIL making contingency plans incase our car couldn't be fixed which included my BIL driving to pick us up from the next service station, about a 1 and half hour drive for him and lending us one of their cars (this is after he had gone over to his parents and cooked christmas dinner for them as they are unwell) fortunately we did not need to take him up on his offer, but it made me very tearful when they phoned and told me this.
3) the cup of coffee my DD gave me as soon as we finally turned up, never has coffee tasted so good. Although the weather was a bit warmer yesterday, standing for hour and a half behind the hard shoulder was a tad cold!
4) seeing my lovely grandaughters, they grow too fast
5) Finally getting to my parents and enjoying the christmas dinner my Dad cooked.
I hope everyone else has had a great time and enjoys the rest of the holidays (I'm back at work on Tuesbut I know a lot are off till after the new year, my OH included)
whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

1. Getting jackets and warm, smart tops for both sons in the early Next sale, plus a handbag I'd seen months ago ... the latter with almost forgotten partial-voucher-cards.
2. Treating myself to some make up and bubble bath from No7 at half price (and using Advantage Card points, and getting new vouchers inside the packs!).
3. DS challenging me to a game of his new mini-Scrabble. I won but he was fine with it, whereas sometimes he would have thrown the towel in much earlier.
4. Veggie burgers - Day 2 of m-i-l's leftovers - for tea with cold meat.
5. Cooking the turkey (right now actually - due to come out at 2am!) that DH was given from work on Wednesday. The farm that produces them keeps them maturing in a cold house for a couple of weeks so I figured that two or three more days in our garage wouldn't hurt.
We've got parents-in-law, DH's GM, aunt and uncle coming tomorrow. I've invited them for 'high tea' buffet rather than lunch, hoping I can get some things reduced from the supermarket in the morning. (Is that wrong?) I'm aiming to keep it very simple and traditional. They'll mainly want to make a fuss of our children anyhow.0 -
Morning everyone, have caught the flu finding it hard to sleep, so thought i'd pop in.:A Broomstick,:A yes yes yes, count me in for the candle lighting. It is just such a lovely idea, that doesn't cost much, but will give me and i'm sure a few others so much pleasure. xx0

Hi all
Great to read all your Christmas pleasure and sorry to hear about a few of you feeling unwell.
Bellaquidsin, hope your streaming cold goes soon.
Bunny too, I hope you ride the flu as well as you can, give yourself lots of TLC, it is not a pleasant ride but it goes eventually (((HUGS)))
Best wishes and hugs to all of you who need them.
Am up early because I am going with DH to Chichester so I shall quickly record my pleasures for the last couple of days:
Christmas Day:
1 - Christmas day early breakfast, cup of tea and a slice of Panettone in bed with DH - romantic and chilled out, with Christmas classic carols music in the background!
2 - Second Christmas breakfast with DS and DD, h/m baked beans, M&S yellow stickered bubble and squeak cakes and a fried egg (treating myself to a non-vegan Crhistmas but back on course soon). All set to wait for a late Christmas lunch in the afternoon.
3 - Opening presents all together, everybody loved theirs. I got a sewing box from DH, some threads and needles from DS (I dropped LOTS of hints in the last couple of weeks before Christmas LOL) and a lovely little hot water bottle with cover from DD. Also some ornaments from a friend. My Secret Santa contained some lovely homemade greeting cards, a glass tealight holder and perfumed tealights and a lovely crocheted decoration of snowflakes, which is now decorating our front room. Lovely all of them, thank you!
4 - I made the cranberry sauce, cleaned and prepared the veg, made the stuffing (from scratch, with bits of bread collected in a freezer bag in the last few months) and then the kids took over and cooked everything, and they made a very good job of it. We had roast parsnips, carrots and potatoes, sauteed leeks, sauteed brussel sprouts with chestnuts, Yorkshire puddings (packet), stuffing (homemade), cranberry sauce. We were stuffed but we still managed to eat a slice of (shop-bought) lemon meringue roulade.
5 - Eating the lemon meringue roulade confirmed to me that I must go back to vegan because the cream just did not agree with me! (Lesson learnt).
6 - Early evening, DD's BF arrived and we exchanged presents with him, he gave us a rack to hang pans on, complete with hooks (now it is just a matter of persuading DH to hang it from the ceiling for me!) and we gave him a cardigan lined with fluffy material, which fits him perfectly and which he loved.
7 - Seeing him and DD exchanging their presents and being so happy together.
8 - After spending the day virtually doing nothing other than eating and lying down in front of the TV, going out for a walk in the dark and deserted streets with DH.
9 - Feeling happy and contented at the end of the day, knowing that my little family loved the day, the food, the gifts and the loveliness of being together in peace and harmony. It was just great and I am immensely grateful.
Boxing Day:
1 - Early-ish breakfast as we were expecting friends from noon, for a Leftovers party.
2 - DD's BF drove me to the Co-op to buy some extra bits that I was missing to feed my friends and found loads of reduced salad and great offers on wine.
3 - I made a very tasty veggie chilli with kidney beans that I had cooked and frozen a few days before just for the purpose of the party, so no stress on the day. Served with baked potatoes, nice and easy.
4 - Friends arrived in fits and starts throughout the early afternoon and all brought bits and pieces to share.
5 - Everybody had a great time and the people who did not know each other got along very well together.
6 - The last to go were two very old friends and it was great to spend some time with them without others around, as we always see them in the company of many people and don't usually have the time to chat together.
7 - These friends are getting together with some other people to buy a bit of land in Wales to make an eco-village and are interested in us joining the project. Difficult decision (and not sure we even could) but we are honoured to be asked and will consider this very carefully.
Today:
1 - After a restful night sleep, early up to wake up DS for his paper round and get ready for Chichester.
2 - While I am here on the computer DH just turned up with a cup of tea and two pieces of bread and jam for my breakfast!
3 - Aniticipating the train journey, treating myself to a magazine.
4 - Anticipating the weekend of leisure in the company of DH.
5 - Good weather out there!
I am sure many more pleasures will follow but now I got to buy the train tickets online.
Love to all ! I might not be around for a few days until back in London so I hope you all have a great few days xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Morning everyone, my 5 for today are.:j
1. Get new book and all bits together for my living on 4k a year challenge. Tried this last year, slipped up a bit, will do better this year. :money:
2. Prepare post for the utilties board. Need help to find the best tv,phone and broadband package. I'm not great at working out what is best. Find it all confusing.
3. Get caught up with the ironing. Fallen right off fly lady wagon this last week.
4. Would love to bake today, but this flu is making me feel so sleepy, might give in and go back to bed.
5. Really enjoyed all the xmas posts:xmastree:, reading all the pleasures, it's just great to hear all the lovely things that make great memories. Looking forward to the start of a new year.
Have a great os day, hugs to all who need them, and all you :Alurkers :Aout there..... post your pleasures...... it's a great way of keeping on the os track. You really are made to feel most welcome here.:hello:xx0 -
5 for Boxing Day:
1) Had a good tidy of the house, even the drawers! Got a box for the textile recycling bin and a bag for the charity shops.
2) Went to mum and dad's for tea.
3) Went out later (finally, no snow or much ice) with my friend.
4) My friend had her baby, by C section - she'd been in labour for more than 48 hours  and they are both fine. :j
Can't think of a 5th, but not a bad day yesterday.

Here we go with some more pleasures I've found in my day yesterday and today so far. I love this thread, I think it is actually changing my outlook slightly
1) A nice big ham in the oven waiting to cook.
2) Making a batch of cheese shapes to go on the top shelf while the ham is cooking.
3) Also while the ham is cooking, making some of those soft chewy cookies.
4) Spending an afternoon on the sofa yesterday watching TV and Lost back to back.
5) The ice being almost melted. I had to pop out this morning briefly and I'm extremely grateful that the ice is nearly gone.
Large amounts of thanks to the OP for starting this thread, and thank you to everyone who posts their pleasures everyday. I really appreciate it. And now, to baking!

Good morning all  - wind and heavy rain here this morning
- so no doubt it will wash away any remaining pockets of slushy stuff on pavements/gutters
.
sparrer - wd you on waiting for a reason to need a new kettle- now you have no reason to feel guilty :rotfl:. Mine conked out a week before, managed for a couple of days with a 'stove-top' one but got one in Asda for £10. My last one was £30 and still only lasted a year - so don't see the point in paying any more than £10 .
savingforoz - lovely day with family/friends there, oz. wd you on managing 2 Dinners. I was hard pushed to finish 1 - think it's an age-thing - years ago I'd have had seconds
.
ACEY - Good to hear that your Grandma was up to being with you all and that she managed to speak to her daughter etc. AND the company of a tail-wagger for a walk as well. Wd you on getting 'tidied up' and congrats :T to your friend - just fancy spending Christmas/Boxing Day in 48hrs of labour!
Broomstick - Great Boxing Day that you all had - good to see that your kids are still playing happily with their presents. I'm all for the candle idea on New Years Eve - thinking of lighting one before midnight for some quiet reflection before the bells/fireworks/ships' hooters (we can hear them on the Mersey) kick off.
bella - sorry to hear that your still experiencing your cold - hopefully it should be coming to an end - my nan used to say 2 days coming, 2 days here and 2 days going for a cold. lol at you cooking your salmon dinner 'under the influence' of mulled wine :rotfl:. We didn't find the time to play games with the dgk's as the house was too full - no doubt this will happen in the next few weeks as we get back into the childminding routine again.
morag1202 - hello- wd on getting your earrings back and liking them even more 2nd time round.
for you and your family - first Christmastime without loved ones is especially hard. :j wtg on not being needed as the 'family taxi service' for a couple of days
.
nuttybabe - don't worry, I'm sure there will be plenty of Christmases where your ds will beat 3, 4 or 5am
. wd you on dealing with your left-over turkey so quickly - great not to get a 'sickener' of it by eating it constantly.
Rummer - wd you on making a huge credit card payment - bet the companies don't expect THAT on Boxing Day lol. Enjoy the sales - but not too much.
Dazi - what an awful Christmas morning for you - but wd to the breakdown man and how lovely to know that your bil was prepared to do all that for you IF needed. Enjoy the remainder of your Christmas holiday time - I'm back in work Tuesday too.
scotrae - well done on your bargains :j and hope you have a lovely day with all your visitors.
bunny too -for you and your germs - hope they soon get the hint and depart! I'm another who is looking to change TV/broadband/phone package for the new year - so I may join you on the Utilities Board - really fed up with paying for all that Sky stuff that we don't even look at !
Caterina - wd to you and your family for such a lovely 'family time' and how you've all enjoyed each other's company. Hope you and DH have a good time in Chichester.
Kitchenbunny - wd on still finding the time and energy to continue cooking/baking. I had the SC on all day yesterday for our evening meal and baked 2 Lemon Drizzles in the morning. Hope you have some relaxation time this afternoon.
Mine for yesterday:
1. Busy morning finishing wrapping some presents for expected visitors.
2. DS2, g/f and dgs2&3 arrived early afternoon. Spent a lovely hour with them before .......
3. Arrival of Mum, Sis, bil, niece and her b/f. DS2 played the part of 'Mine Host' and handed around cake, mince pies, shortbread, goodies, coffees etc (he's an ex-Restaurant Manager so in his element;)). Lovely present exchange - but it's a shame that so many people there that you start to think afterwards 'Now who did I get this off?'. I love to see everybody together, but also like to have smaller gatherings so that we can chat and catch up properly. 11 of us in my living room and have discovered that my coffee table can seat 3 adults :rotfl:. At least there were enough of us to keep 'Bouncing Billy-Blue-Eyes' off the stairs
.
4. Mum, sis et al all moved on to their next visit leaving us with relative peace and quiet and chance to see the children playing with their presents.
5. After DS2 etc left we had about 30mins grace before DS1, g/f and her son arrived for the evening and another round of present giving and another child to watch with his toys.
6. Heading for DD's for a couple of hours today - there're bags with presents in for the kids that were left here yesterday. DS2's g/f has just phoned to say that they'll collect me to go there as dgs2 is staying over at DD's for the night.
7. Today it's 'turkey fry up' for evening meal - left-overs of mash, veg, stuffing, turkey, gravy mixed together, fried to start it going, put into a small roasting tin and put under a low grill. Part way through grilling, it gets turned over and put back again. Result is crispy on top and gets served with pickles, relish, cranberry sauce etc.
8. Please forgive me for I have sinned - I have to confess that I've just had to have a 'chucking out session' from the fridge . A 1kg tub of Shank Stew and a 1kg tub of Oxtail Soup - down the loo. The stew would have been frozen for another day BUT there was no room in the freezers and the soup had been defrosted, so no chance for that!
9. Now off to get ready for DS2 to collect me - or he'll have my guts for garters if I'm not ready.
Extra specialfor all who need them - speak again love Ollie xxx.
