    4. Figured out to keep Oldie still when she is having her legs washed...magic bran mash!! She loves bran mashes, but rarely gets them, so she nommed away, while I did her legs and she is now sporting her wicking leg wrap thingies. Last time, she had removed said leg wraps and deposited them, one by one, over her stable door overnight. Clown!!

    A bit of burlesque eh?....cheeky pony:D Told you I loved her ;)

Yup!! She has, in the past, managed to wriggle her way out of her rug, without said rug being undone and we have found it fastened, trampled into her bed in the morning and her doing the pony equivalent of a :D

Have just been giggling with OH about the first xmas I had her and I decided that she needed a choc advent calendar, like mine. About 3 days in, she was getting the hang of it- look cute, get chocolate- then obviously she thought "s*d this", grabbed advent calendar and shook it til the chocolates fell went flying in all directions, leaving me bawling and her scrambling around for the chocs.

I should write a book about her exploits!!

Mrs Grumpy Pants here - been in a foul mood all day, though for no apparent reason

    For yesterday

    1. Worked from home - it was the 2nd anniversay of my mum dying and i wasn't really fit company
    2. Friend for dinner 2nd night in a row
    3. My guide to New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey arrived so we can research where to visit next year
    4. DS scooter arrived for xmas
    5. Got some good bargains when i popped out to the bank and visited the market

And today - as i said, been in a really horrid mood so here goes

    1. OH took DS to maths tutor so that i could have a cuppa when I got in rather than dash straight out again
    2. Me, DD and DS went to dentist and all was well
    3. Sent a voucher for £25 to a colleague who had gone to a different department and it hadn't arrived so i thought it had been nicked. Went out yesterday and bought another one, today it arrived! FOUR weeks after i sent it!
    4. Asked a boss if i could go to Cape Town to present my conference paper (tongue firmly in cheek) and whilst, as expected, he wasn't keen he is rather keener on me submitting it to a conference in Montreal so am more hopeful i may be able to go there - didn't expect to go anywhere, so fingers crossed
    5. Yummy left over fish pie for tea.

HOpe you are all in better moods than me :o
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Evening all. Feeling sad as I heard tonight that my brother's girlfriend's son has been found dead. He was only in his thirties and nobody knows the cause yet.

Let's see if I can rustle up something for today in spite of the bad news:

    1. I will be looking after his cat for the time being, so I have the arrival of a furry friend to look forward to.
    2. Difficult boss in a good mood again.
    3. Editing another two chapters of my novel and getting a real feel for what I need to do to improve it.
    4. Quite enjoying work this afternoon for a change!
    5. Doing ab crunches and upper arm exercises with weights this morning - not a pleasure, but I felt virtuous afterwards.
    6. More of a relief than a pleasure, this one - I am in dispute with my ex-tenants over damage that they did to my house and won't take responsibility for - sent an email tp the lettings agent that will hopefully move things on.
    7. Keeping up with my routine to keep the housework under control - I loathe it but also hate having a dusty, grubby house so I do a room each day.

Think that'll do for now. Hugs to those who need them.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.
  • vjsmum ((hugs)) to you re the anniversary of your loss. I don't think the feeling of loss gets any easier over time, it just feels "different" :(

    savingforoz ((hugs))

millie- your book would be the pony version of "War and Peace".

31o here today.....tad too warm for me, however.....can't do too much about it!

1.Much later start to work today but I got up at 6am & pottered about, had hoovered, cleaned bathrooms, tidied kitchen, hung out a washing, ate porridge ( bleurgh!) , read some kindle all before heading out! Much prefer this later start.

2.Met a customer's mum who is on holiday from Scotland, I was introduced as a very nice person from Scotland, nice to have a blether!

3.Yesterday & again today I saw baby moorhen, calling for her mummy! Mummy came & wee baby was happy! When DD1 was small she spent some time in hospital & one of our favourite books was 'Come on Daisy', about a duckling who loses sight of her mummy, who was never far away anyway. So this reminded me of happy times seeing this.

4.Picked up said DD from school, which was a pleasure for her! 31o is quite warm to walk up & down yonder hills home, so I took a few minutes out my way & picked her up.

5.Sat with DS & DD1 talking about my family history.

Going to add a few more!

6.Have been listening to radio 2 again & enjoying the music & chattter.

7.Made a yummy corned beef hash for tea.

8.Just been a nice walk with OH to post a letter & enjoyed seeing all the Christmas Decorations in peoples houses .....though at still 25o at 9.30pm it does seem a tad bizzare!

frith: don't be too disheartened re the job application. There will be other jobs & opportunities for you to apply. I was distraught the first job I applied for out here, I didn't get, even though I knew I could have done the job very well, I probably didn't have the relevant experience/ Australian work history.

I gave up my career to raise a family but in that intervening time I did a lot of voluntary work at nursery/school, raised a lot of money & honed already good organisational skills, I sadly think many employers may disregard this when they read applications. When DD2 started school, I had intended doing a refresher course to allow me to re-enter career pathway but this had been discontinued, so have done 'wee jobs' in school hours since then. However, the skills and experience I have learned in past 6 years have allowed me to head in a totally different career path and I am loving the job I'm doing now, which has definate prospects for me. Would never have considered doing what I'm doing in a million years!

So long story for a shortcut.....keep applying, keep trying & keep smiling.....a good Scottish saying "what's for you will no' go by you"

    Take care :)

    Morning

    Savingforoz- Hugs
VJsmum - Hope you are feeling better today after what must have been a difficult couple of days
Frith - Sorry you didn't get the job but don't give up
Mhagster - My DD also used to love 'Come on Daisy' so the reference to it made me smile.

    Pleasures for yesterday,
    1. Thought yesterday was going to be my friend J's last day in the office but she has got a little bit of a reprieve :j
    2. Lovely department christmas lunch out and paid for by work. Mussels followed by duck with the most scrummyiest roast potatoes, yum yum
    3. Using alll my will power to walk away from someone at work who was trying to act way above her station. Decided it just wasn't worth getting angry over and will just have a chat with my boss today.
    4. Carols around the christmas tree in our local little town, always lovely and a great atmosphere
    5. DD winning lots on all the various stalls in the charity christmas market. I have never known anyone as lucky as she is. Also managed to get some yummy HM blackcurrant jam.

Hugs to all who need them

I thought yesterday was going to be a terrible and stressful day. OH had an interview, I had a big meeting at work where big things were being discussed and was waiting for some emails. It turns out, the interview went well (fingers crossed), the work I was discussing in my big meeting was my best in a long time, and all of the big things aren't nearly as scary as I was thinking they were. I guess that'll teach me to anticipate the worst!

    Today:
    1. Its a work at home day, so I can stay cozy with hot water bottle at the desk, and my little wristwarmers on while I type.
    2. Thursday dinners come from the Freezer, tonight is beef stew. It has to go in the oven, as do the jacket potatoes for tomorrow's lunches so that will keep the flat toasty. Might also do some yorkshire puds just to use up that last bit of space in the oven.
    3. I've just started reading a new book that is already excellent. Its from a stack my mum passed on to me when she'd finished them. Its not exactly high brow literature, but I get plenty of that at work! Plus, there is a sequel already on my bookshelf--a good supply to get me through the holidays.
    4. I've got a Christmas party to attend on Sunday, hosted by some friends. I think I'm going to try to make some pretty paper ornaments out of some bits of washi paper to give them. I think it will be fun and they'll like them. And it won't cost me any money!
    5. Tomorrow is my last day of teaching that involves a fully planned lesson. The final lesson, next week, is a chance for the students to ask questions about their exams in January so I don't really have to plan anything for that as I can explain the exam process forwards and backwards after saying it so many times!
  • Hugs also to VJsmum, Savingforoz and Frith.

    Mine for yesterday:

    1. We finally had the lightest sprinking of snow. Everywhere near me has it, which is normally the other way round. All melted now like.

    2. OH made yummy potato and chard curry from River Cottage veg book for tea. It is yummier than it sounds!

    3. Cleaning - love cleaning me :D

    4. Got all my Christmas cards written that need posting

    5. Had nice warming mug of mulled wine. We had a bottle unopened from about 2 years ago and I'd never tried it before. Delish :)
