VJsmum - I got the recipe from a book called 'The Boxing Clever Cookbook' which has loads of seasonal recipies for vegetables if you have a veg box. I've copied it here - I thought it was yum (my OH enjoyed it too). Apparently it freezes well too.
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 onion, thinly sliced
1 garlic clove crushed
1 medium head red cabbage, grated or cut into fine strips
2 medium green apples, quartered, cored and thinly sliced
2 tbsp white wine vinegar
1 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp fresh chopped dill or 3/4 tsp dried dill
salt & pepper to taste
1. Heat oil in pan add onion and cook for about 4 mins until onion is soft
2. Add the garlic and cook for another minute
3. stir in the cabbage, cover and cook for about 5 mins or until the cabbage has wilted
4. add apples, white wine vinegar, sugar and dill. Season to taste
5. stir well and cook until apples are tender, about 10 mins
6. serve
Delia Smith has a Christmas recipe for it, with some lovely sounding spices but I couldn't do the maths to narrow it down a bit for 2!

My 5 for today:

2. Had nice long run in the (cold) sun
3. Came back and had lovely hot bath with a hot chocolate and slug of liqueur! One of my favourite treats!
4. My brother has put up some old family pictures on facebook. It was great to see them
5. NSD again!0 -
LH; It sounds like an amazing place despite the lack of Bestfriend and accomaniement. (sp) One day you'll be looking back with her saying "do you remember"
Ninnoodle that receipe sounds delicious, last chistmas we had a red cabbage accomaniement on christmas day it was a pub meal, and it was awsome, we asked the chef what it was and he said it was a bit of eveything and sugar and alchol, it was amazing.0 -
Oh Ninnoodle - thank you so much - will deffo be doing that this weekMillie2008 wrote: »garlic bread, which is called knob something or other- the mind boggles!
Possibly Knoblauchbrot? Knoblauch is garlic, brot is bread. My favourite foreign oo err word is Slagroom - dutch for cream:D
Mine for today
1. a bit of a lie in
2. a morning doing not much at all
3. lunch at pizza express courtesy of Mr T
4. Cleared out a cupboard in the bedroom - huge pile of clothes (OH's) for the charity bag

Hello
1) Hubby loves brie cheese and I managed to get him a brie and tomato pre packed sarnie for 40p from mr A. He ALWAYS forgets to make lunch so now neither of us have to
2) Waking up to toddler son beaming and chattering to me this morning
3) Taking a lovely walk with the family in the woods.
4) Planning to make some gingerbread men tonight, I am building myself up to this one as I am new to baking and usually end up with sunken cakes and burnt biscuits lol.
5) still feeling good about sorting the boys' drawers out, we can finally find things!!!!
Hope everyone had a lovely day.xxx0 -

Love it!! Must remember that for teaching smallpeople. In Oldie's case it is more jumping triffids though, the way she bucks- little madam! Love welshies- can't wait to have a child, so I can buy a sec A (not the only reason I am having children, honest!!)
Millie That's an excellent reason to have one - pony or child, you choose
Ladyhawk sorry your BF's bf was being an arris, not sure if he's daft or a hero for putting up with him . Other than that, good to hear from you, sounds a wonderful time and place to be
chicken you're welcome, hope you have many good meals with it - the fact that it's 241 or bogof does help to season them well!
ninnoodle the recips sounds yum, might just have to have a go at that as I live on soup when it's cold. Just put a cauliflower & courgette soup in the sc, it's lovely sprinkled with a little blue or strong cheddar before serving
(((Purple kitten))) hope your mog arrives home safe and sound, and soon.
1. Found a super birthday present for DM, I know it's not til next May but it's a groupon offer near where she lives. At 91 she'd love a helicopter ride and cream tea in the manor house of a country estate!
2. Another warm day with no heating on. Bit breezy out there but I'm in here
3. Good lunchtime fellowship meeting, the speaker had us in fits of laughter - and he wasn't trying to be funny
4. As above, just put a cauli and courgette soup in the sc, with some hm bread there'll be lots of warming meals for the week ahead
5. Secret Millionaire later, a bit naff but I love real programmes with a feel good factor
Night night0 -
Good evening all
ladyhawk -missing you loads and glad to hear that you have been doing some very exciting things and probably sneaking in a lot of siestas ! Re your best friend and his boyfriend - the boyfriend sounds pretty selfish imo. ENJOY xx
purplekitten- I hope that your cat returns home safely soon. What a worry for you ((hugs))
5 for today
1. Body waking me up at 4.30am as it hasn't quite got used to the clocks changing. Another early night for me again tonight:D I love my bed .
2. Towels and bath mat washed and dried in the sunshine here , despite putting them out at around 11 am.
3. Made OH a cottage pie in the slow cooker, I don't like minced beef so had a quorn one with mashed celeriac on top instead of mashed potatoes, it was very nice but will probably have a diuretic effect on me in the errrr.. "wee" small hours:D .
4.Had a totally lazy afternoon watching half of my set of "the Good Life" DVD's. It still cracks me up even though it was filmed in 1975 and 1976 (when I was 6!!). I love the bit when Lennin the cockerell jumps on to the double decker bus to Kingston .I think they should do a one off episode of how they live today ( both actresses still look stunning )except that the lovely Paul Eddington passed away some time ago .
5.Caught a cat walking on my trellis stalking my hens . The cat was very well hidden but Forrest the hen had grown about a foot in height when I looked out of the window, so I knew something was up. Foolish cat - I have seen what they do to seagulls when all nine of them put the boot in . I made a noise like Daffy Duck and it hoofed it anyway .
Have a good evening all - who nicked the weekend though??:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Sometimes they need to make their own mistakes, Don't they Millie?
Hell, yeah!! I am awaiting the "err, sorry" text as we speak :tapsfingers:Of course I am far too big a person for this to impact on our freindship. Still a (quietly) smug little madam though:rotfl:
Possibly Knoblauchbrot? Knoblauch is garlic, brot is bread. My favourite foreign oo err word is Slagroom - dutch for cream:D
Slagroom- snigger! I had saved it in my head as knobrot (knobbrot?) but it sounded very wrong and I was so rubbish at German that Frau wotsit kindly suggested that I didn't do a GCSE in it. I can, however trot out useful phrases, such as "the cheesecake is in the hospital". One day, such phrases will come in useful
Millie That's an excellent reason to have one - pony or child, you choose
Ahh, yes: Small person (girl), pigtails, dappled sec A, lead rein poncey pony showing. I fear the reality will be boy who hates ponies and I will be forced to [STRIKE]steal[/STRIKE] borrow someone else's smallperson and pass it off as my own!!0 -
Purple kitten - hope Puss comes home safely.
Ladyhawk - grrr, passive aggresive behaviour, don't you just hate it! So petty, pointless and childish.
Let's see what I can rustle up:
1. Finding my missing earring.
2. Lovely lunch with a friend who insisted on treating me.
3. Getting more books from the library.
4. Lovely handbag from the charity shop.
5. Unexpected phone call from a friend.
6. Catching up with sleep this afternoon after not sleeping well.
7. Walking into town and back to get some exercise.
8. Treating myself to a yummy felafel and sitting in the sunshine to eat it.
9. Finding a great Christmas market and photography exhibition to visit next week.
10. Finishing writing my novel, uploading it to the website and being validated as one of this year's winners.Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Purple kitten - sorry, missed that- really hope your cat comes home very soon

Ladyhawk - grrr to BF's bf, what a knoblauch, as they wouldn't say in GermanySounds like you're having a !!!!!!!!!!! time x
Well done villagelife's DS1 - what a fantastic achievement, I started and dropped out of DofE many years ago, so take my hat off to anyone who does it
1. Wow! What a lovely sunny day, amazing to go out with DD for an impromptu picnic on 27th NOVEMBER!!
2. Met a lovely couple and their gorgeous baby this morning, he's a real miracle as his birth was very difficult, but blimey what a cutepie
3. I had a rubbish night's sleep and went back to bed at 7am, and DD woke me at 10!! We had about 10 minutes to get dressed and ready to go out, but phew, we managed it
4. We popped over to a friend's later in the day, and as she was having a bit of a clearout, I came home with some random goodies - a courgette, a couple of mugs and some sweeties
5. DD and I snuggled up on the sofa and watched one of the Frozen Planet programmes we'd recorded, she was
6. A lovely assistant in Te$co's reduced some items further for us, so we had a most scrumptious picnic - bread, cheese, fruit salad and a few sweeties, well, they just fell into the trolley!0
