Ooo, VJ'smum - must remember to go to the Christmas market this year! We went 2 years ago but never got round to it last time.

    5 for today (Thurs).

    1) Got to school in the nick of time. I did get up with MrB at some ungodly hour but went back to sleep again.

    2) Went into town and had a cup of tea with a friend.

    3) Popped to Sainsburys and found something my dad would like for his birthday (the Ayrton Senna DVD).

    4) House reasonably tidy.

    5) Made roast beef and Yorkshire puddings for dinner and was praised for it by sons!

    6) They also liked the "pudding" which was.... erm.... a toffee apple each!

    7) Help over the phone from my school friend with my application form (deadline=tomorrow) I have emailed my form to her and she is going to read it and we'll speak again in a minute. Or when smaller son FINALLY stops getting out of bed and wandering in here..........

    8) If smaller son goes to sleep, want to go out into the garden and watch the Leonids. :-)

    9) Hoping to hear from MrB later. :-)

savingforoz thanks for the synopsis of your travels, do let us know about the book when it's published. We'll all want a signed copy, of course!

    1. bathed the dog - not sure it was really a pleasure as we both get soaked but he enjoys the hairdryer afterwards. Takes at least 2 hours to dry him
    2. spent an hour in the garden, not really much to do out there now but it was mild, so nice to be able to potter
    3. rescued the last of the flowers, a few for a small vase and some heads to float in a pretty little dish on the kitchen table
    4. nsd/npd
    5. bottom of fridge tea, diced red onion, leek, chestnut mushrooms and celery, grated carrot, and 1/2 a lamb stock cube simmered in a little water in the wok. It was delicious, nice when a chuck it all in turns out so tasty

    sleep well

  • Hi all.

    5 for today.

    1. Another dry and breezy day so managed to get washing out
    2. Washing was nearly ruined by late onset of rain. This was rescued by my cat who came scampering in from the rain soaking wet, looking to be towelled down by me (he loves it). I managed to rescue the washing before it got too bad!
    3. An ebay buyer, whose feedback I had been dreading as I made a huge error when listing an item they bought (stated wrong shop), gave positive feedback - phew!
    4. Had lovely long hot bath this evening and feel all relaxed
    5. Finally figured out how to transfer my paypal money from ebay to my bank account (one is in my maiden name, another in my former married name). It has only taken me 8 years to figure out I can just set up another account and transfer across! Lightbulb moment this morning - jeez what a doughball!

    Evening all. Bit late tonight!

    Savingforoz, that trip sounds amazing.

    Five pleasures for Thursday:

    1. Some good conversations with parents at sports coaching today.

    2. DS2 has managed to rescue the contents of the hard drive on his grandad's defunct computer, so he didn't have to pay the computer shop money. His grandad's very pleased. :T

    3. Having moments over the last couple of days where it has felt as if my energy has returned. I am living in hope that this is going to keep going!

    4. A very delicious pear from the veg box.

    5. A chance conversation with someone about starting to do some tutoring of their child. I stopped regular tutoring a few years ago and I think it would be good to get back into it again. It was very rewarding when it worked well and I can fit it around other things.

    Sweet dreams

  • Purple Kitten - hugs, I hate days like that xx
VJs Mum - Love the German market, we are going next week to celebrate friend's PhD viva. We go a few times every year- rarely buy anything apart from food and vin chaud, but it's lovely to just mooch!

Am suffering this morning from drinking too much wine with workmates last night, bums! Amazingly I don't have a headache, but feel sicky. Ahh well, it was a good night :D

    My five for yesterday

    1. Got up early and made mince pies in my xmas PJs :D I have never made them before, but borrowed mum's special recipe for pastry with orange zest and they were a huuuuge success with my workmates ( I don't like them!!)
    2. Popped to the staff bar with colleague for lunch (not very OS, as I usually take my own, but we had a nice chat)
    3. Caught up with some ex-colleagues I hadn't seen in a while
    4. Went to a fab inaugural lecture of a colleague who's just got a chair. I "starred" in it, in a film clip from 10years ago when I was a student- had short red hair - eek!! Lecture was about colleague's career, which he has devoted to leukaemia research. Moving
    5. Drinks reception for the above, then curry and drinks with work mates- there will be a few sore heads this morning

Yay, it's Friday- I am out tonight meeting a friend I haven't seen in about 12 years!! Then xmas shopping and playing with the ponies at the weekend :D:D Happy times!

Hugs to anyone in need xx
  • Millie2008 YUM! Any chance of divulging the recipe for your mums special orange pastry? Pretty please... And just let the nasty comment about weight wash over you. My "ideal" size is about a 14...needless to say havent been a 10 since I was about, er, 10 years old! I bet you look gorgeous just as you are.

Chickenopolis Never thought of feeding hens prawn crackers! My 4 girls get a treat of porridge made with warm water or a handful of mealworms.

Purple Kitten what an awful day!!! Really hope today is a hell of a lot better and not so frustrating. hugs.

CCP am loving the sound of your fluffy boots! which ones are they from m and s? Ive just made a banana cake too, they are so easy but so delicious arent they.

VJsmum well done on the jumper. I have just started getting into knitting...where do you find best for cheap supplies? I'm finding it all quite expensive.

Sparrer what breed of dog do you have? That's some serious fur-drying time!!!!

Ninnoodle Am loving the image of your cat rushing in for a rub-down. :-) Really miss my moggie. Well done on escaping bad feedback, I listed a pair of trousers as mens once but hadnt realised they were womens. Oops.

Had a bit of an awful day yesterday. Started on my new tablet, arimadex, to block oestrogen as the cancer I had was hormone fed.
Woke up in the morning feeling sick and mid morning actually was sick. Then got boiling hot followed by shivvering cold so went to bed with hot-water bottle and tried to sleep it off. Yuk. Don't think I will be able to stick with the tablet for very long at this rate... :-(

    Good things though were:

    1. Lovely and sunny, always makes me feel better.

    2. Managed a practice square of a pretty eyelet lace pattern in the evening with some gorgeous jade green wool. No dropped stitches either!

    3. Work sent me a get-well-soon card. Some lovely, kind, "missing you lots" messages. Awwww!

Hugs to all who need them. xxx

CCP.....just so you know, it's your fault! Just had a peruse of M & S website & made a few purchases!

We have just had a big & might storm for past hour, was 33o :( , too hot for this Scottish lassie!
So air is a bit clearer now! I actually put the air con on this evening !

1.Slept like a sleepy thing from 7.45pm last night (had been dozing on sofa from just after 7pm) so right through until 4.45am! felt rather refreshed & wide awake (no wonder!)

2.Not so busy at work but less staff so worked for longer, not sure what's going to happen with hours over next few weeks .....hmmmmm! Will just have to wait & see & cut cloth accordingly!

3.Son having to deal with another spider in the bathroom! Horrid, horrid, horrid!

4.Phoned my mum this morning, she's still not quite right after her trip here.

5.Just rather glad it's Friday really!

On a lighter note......underwire of bra has been peeking out of my top all bloomin' day! So not quite sure how long it was before I noticed it & how many people noticed it before I did!

    Yesterday's goodies

    1. My lovely boss was back in the office after a couple of days' sick leave, nice to have him back amongst the team

    2. Took in scrumptious leftovers for lunch

    3. OH babysat, despite feeling rubbish (well, I surmise that he was feeling pants, but he's too gentlemanly to let me know as he knew I'd cancel my meeting), so he and DD watched the Simpsons then had an early night.

    4. Great food at the meeting last night, it's the culinary highlight of my week and such lovely people there :) It was the vicar's birthday so we signed a card and someone had made him the most amazing chocolate birthday cake, ooh that reminds me, I brought a piece back!

    5. Wonderful chat with a really good friend, so happy to have such love in my life :)

    Evening all.

    mhagster - sorry. :o

Ginger Snap - I hope you're feeling much better by now.

Purple kitten (and anyone else who wants a comfy pair of boots and / or fancies doing a hobbit impression ;)) - the boots are these ones.

    4. Went to a fab inaugural lecture of a colleague who's just got a chair.

I read that and my first thought was 'has he always previously done his lectures standing up, then?'. I work at a university, too, so there's no excuse for me being so slow! :o

Re German markets - the Portsmouth one arrived this week, too, which means every trip to the high street for the next few weeks will be plagued by the smell of grilling sausages and gluhwein.

    1) Loads of lovely cakes and biscuits at today's charity sale. I was particularly taken with the traditional US-style peanut butter cookies, which I've never tried before and now intend to look up a recipe for. (My banana cake, for the record, lasted less than an hour, which was quite flattering. :))

    2) Went into Mr T to use a bonus points voucher with a minimum spend of £8 and, thanks to some desperate mental arithmetic, managed to get my total bill to £8.82. :D (And remembered in the process why I never shop in Tesc0 - aargh!)

    3) Decided to take an evening off essay writing. There's some good, logical reasons to do so - I'm tired and will write better when I'm not struggling to stay awake, my neck's getting stiff again and would benefit from an evening's rest, and the next section of my essay doesn't break up easily so really needs a sustained period of writing - but the real reason is an outbreak of CBA. :o

    4) Tuna pesto pasta for dinner - a perennial favourite of mine that always manages to override my guilt over eating tuna.

    5) It's Friday. :j

    Have a nice evening, all.
Back after a very long break!
