  • Thanks Sparrer for the acronym list :)

Broomstick - 'a secret tin of things to cheer me up for when I feel totally miserable'. That's a fantastic idea which I'm going to copy!! I need one of them I think.

    1. The drizzly dreich depression that has been here for the past 3 days finally lifted today! I forgot to put washing out but went out running and had some sun on my face at last!
    2. I ran a slightly different route today and remembered what a beautiful way it was. I stopped at the top of the hill and listened to the birdsong for a bit.
    3. Veg box day so made a giant pan of kale and lentil soup and also some scones, mmmm!
    4. Got paid a nice sum from Quidco and also the money for recycling my mobile went in my bank too.
    5. The bag I pretty much gave away on ebay the other week, that then got returned by the winning bidder who changed her mind, and that I put back on ebay again this week, is already £11 over what it went for previously - and still 4 days to go! :D
  • Evening everyone :D

I am feeling much better today, thanks for the support :) and sorry to be miserable
my horses are all fluffy and cuddly and great to be around

and this made me smile, because oldie and the show cob are both looking teddy bear-like at the moment and I am loving it. Cob is normally clipped out, but he is semi-retired, so we have let him get a bit feral-looking. I am dying to get the clippers out though..must resist :D

    Mine for today

    1. Lovely chat with a very wise old lady and I always learn lots from her. She feels a bit like a surrogate grandma
    2. Managed to delegate and hand some of my marking over to colleagues. Saves me marking 80 x 1000 words- would have driven me a teeny bit mad
    3. Because I had marking and because I have sent my students off to the hospital, I escaped early and went for pony cuddles. Oldie has had a bit of a puffy leg this past couple of days and a scab where she seems to have knocked herself, so we have been prodding/hibiscrubbing and giving her bute and it was down tonight and she trotted up (read: dragged me along the yard) fine. Phewph!!
    4. Called into local town centre on way home, as there were a couple of xmas pressies I wanted to get in the Debenhams promotion thingy, got them and saved a fair bit of money AND I know that the recipients will love them and use them
    5. Watched a movie with OH tonight- Carrie  Not sure this counts as OS and it was a bit disturbing, but it was a cheapy DVD he'd picked up and it was an alternative to going to the cinema as I'd never seen it before.

Love and hugs all round xx

Ladyhawk have a safe journey and a super holiday, we'll hold the fort til you get back ;) . Pleased the date went well, he sounds like a nice, and useful, chap to know
chicken I so relate to shoes in fridge - in my case it was teabag in milk jug this morning, when I looked in the cup I couldn't understand why it was just water, was sure I'd got a teabag out
Broomstick I love the secret tin idea! Think I'll join ninnoodle and do the same

    1. The beautiful sunshine! Windows/doors open most of the day
    2. NSD
    3. Masses of housework done, I'm always more keen to do it when the day is bright
    4. Lots of lovely phone calls to and from friends, thank goodness for a one-off monthly call charge. I think I used it up today!
    5. Excellent meeting this evening, ther usual teasing and laughs. We are such a sober lot ;)

    Sweet dreams

  • 1) This was an odd one - learning to knit the Portuguese way from a Bulgarian. Except it wasn't knitting, it was purling. I've been on the internet trying to learn the knit stitch but I can't seem to get the hang of it. Anyway, it seems very efficient, even for a left-hander.
    2) Only me in this evening, so I didn't cook but rootled around for left overs. Seems to have saved hours.
    3) DH is away, but has rung me three times this evening.
    4) Interesting meeting this evening with my boss, who mentioned that they will be looking into pay and responsibilities this year. I don't suppose there will be much scope for a rise but you never know.

That's all I can squeeze out of today. Sleep well.

Sparrer and ninnoodle if you do start a secret tin do let me know your ideas for yours. I really like the thought of having a little stash of guilt-free treats for emergency use that nobody else knows about.

    My five for today:

    1. Lovely chat with a warehouse supervisor when I went to collect some stuff in London - and some freebie sweets while I was there.

    2. Having time in the car to do a really long think about what I want to do for money-earning work over the next few years to fund the creative things that I'm working on. I need to speak to a small business advisor, I think because I've thought of an idea that might just do the trick.

    3. HM veg soup and cheese for supper.

    4. A catching up chat with a friend on the phone and clearing up some potentially difficult areas of confusion which now seem to be fine.

    5. Discovering the tea towel full of rosemary that I'd left hanging up to dry in a corner of the kitchen. It must have been there for about three months. I've stripped the leaves off the twigs and have filled a jam jar with the dried herb. It looks so pretty that I think I might deliberately grow extra herbs for drying next year. Little jam jars full of home grown dried herbs would make really good presents.

    Sweet dreams

savingforoz - welcome back, hope you'll do a mega-good-things-list of the best bits of your trip :)

    Wednesday's wonders :)

    1. OH and I went to the doc's to get him some new super-pills, I'm praying they'll help his walking, and that the side-effects are minimal....bit worried that he was using his walking stick inside the house during the evening which he's never done, but hopefully he's 'just' tired and a good night's sleep will help. Thank goodness for the NHS and our lovely GP who is now used to us turning up a deux to his appointments :)

    2. OH's nephew came to play with DD and he was a little treasure, they had a fabulous time :)

    3. Made the yummiest garlic bread ever for the children, and just had to have a bite or two, nomnomnom

    4. Found a recipe on here for very easy Chinese ribs and made a Quorn version for me and a meaty one for OH - it was deelish

    5. Quiet working day

    6. I've done an online survey, looking forward to the vouchers :)

    7. Fabulous cuddles from my two favourite people

    8. A friend walked DD home from school for me as I needed to be at 2 schools at the same time.

Right, back to bed I think, more cuddles needed :)

    Morning

    Pleasures for yesterday,
    1. Popped to Sainsbug in lunch hour as needed a few bits for DD cooking. As had a voucher bought a big tin of sweets to put away for christmas.
    2. Lots of laughs in the office.
    3. Happy DD as I have bought her a ticket to the Jack Wills open evening. She gets a goody bag and I get the money back off £50 spend on the night. I know this is a high spend but in this shop not difficult and it will be part of her christmas present.
    4. Family dinner out to Ask using Mr.T vouchers so a free dinner. Still have one £10 voucher left so can feel a girly lunch coming on as need to be used by 22nd.
    5. Not getting back too late from restaurant and family all sitting down together for an hour. DD is at that age where spends a lot of time in her room so nice that we can all spend some time together.

Hugs to all who need them. Ladyhawk has a fab holiday.
  • Mine for yesterday..(oops, forgot to post last night)

    1. OH took me into town and to a wool shop near the cathedral that until I looked on the internet I didnt know was there. The owner couldnt have been nicer or more helpful and I found myself a few colourful yarns and some needles to get started on new projects. Was surprised at the cost of wool but am enjoying knitting so much it has got to be worth it. Owner says they run a knitting get-together twice a week so I might pluck up the courage to go sometime...

    2. I cooked HM vegetable pasta sauce which went down very well with everyone. Had lots of healthy ingredients and because it was blitzed with a hand blender the children hardly noticed they were getting their 5 a day. :-)

    3. DD's hamster still seems to be getting stronger by the day so fingers crossed she is on the mend. When we gave her the antibiotics last night she managed not to bite me in fright, too, which is always a good thing!

    4. Watched Kirstie's Handmade Britain with DD, snuggled infront of the fire, while OH went to the pub. We both enjoy the same kind of programmes (she even loves Downton Abbey!) and its a pleasure to have her company.

Back later to finish when have the time. Have good days everyone. xxx

    Heya all

    Mine is from yesterday -

    1. short of cash, so made the food for 15yo's birthday (except crisps) and he was over the moon. He said he would rather have my cooking than shopbought any day :o

    2. Also made the cake..a huge square chocolate one, with chocolate buttercream and decorated with smarties. I'm not the best cake decorater in the world so it could at best be described as 'rustic' looking :rotfl: Regardless, the entire lot got scoffed which doesn't usually happen when I buy one :D

    3. mini pizzas went down a storm too, and my husband managed to pick up some whoopsied mozarrella....reduced from £2.75 to 45p!

    4. Seeing that my husband is finally getting the frugality thing...and beginning to enjoy it :D

    5. time spent catching up with family. It was a wonderful evening and we had a really good time

    hope all are well :)
Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

Don't throw away food challenge started 30/10/11 £4.45 wasted.

    Storecard balance -[STRIKE] £786.60[/STRIKE] £708
