Purple kitten - did all of your animals walk to Pets @ H? I have a vision of you being like the Pied Piper - with pets instead of children:rotfl:
:rotfl: No chance! We walk 1 each and even then you need eyes in the back of your head to check for random children/teenagers/mutts not on a lead etc etc.0 -
Evening everyone! Sounds as if we have all had a good sunny day.
I had a bit of a scare this afternoon as I tried to go for a walk with DD across to the park; didnt feel too bad until came back and then found I had started to bleed a bit. Must, must, must learn to be more patient with myself and rest up. :-(
Anyway, apart from that its been a lovely day:
1. Woke to beautiful sunshine, garden looking beautifully autumnal and the chickens and rabbits looking contented.
2. Made Nigella's chicken fajitas with DS's help for lunch. Had prepared the spiced chicken mixture and the peppers and onions last night and put them in bags in the fridge overnight. Don't know if this helped, but everyone agreed the fajitas tasted the best yet. Really delicious!
3. Walked with DD and next door's beautiful poodle-cross dogs to the park over the road. Then I sat in the warm sunshine on a bench while she walked further around the woodland, before coming back to get me on the way home.
4. OH gave me lots of cuddles today as I as feeling a bit upset and fragile at times. He really does look after me so well.
5. Bought some needles and a ball of wool. Tomorrow I am going to watch a few utube videos and try to learn how to cast on....0 -
Hello all, sounds like some great weekends have been had here
Mine's been good too, yay :0)
1. DD, friend and I had a scrummy if not particularly MSE, lunch in a restaurant
2. Shopping trip at Westf!eld Stratf0rd was interesting....I was excited to see a Lakeland and John Lewis, and did buy a tshirt but most of the shops were just very expensive to me. No signs of the recession though, it was so busy in every shop, bar and restaurant.
3. Finally managed to get DD some plimsolls that fit her, relief not to have to send her to school with her very expensive trainers tomorrow
4. Lots of lovely texts with OH
5. The hospitality of my friend, who gave up her comfy bed for us last night, and the lovely cuddles DD gave me in her sleep(I have a feeling she's crept into my bed tonight
6. Friend gave me her 5p off a litre of petrol voucher as she doesn't have a car or drive, that'll come in handy
7. I've started reading the book I was lent and its very good so far, thought-provoking, which makes a change from my usual chick-lit
8. It was lovely to come back home this afternoon to nice clean sheets on the beds, well worth what felt like a gargantuan effort before we left on Saturday, lol.0 -
Hiya. I've come back again after rather a long time away. I need to get to grips with thinking positively again. I've caught up on a couple of pages of posts on this thread but there's a huge backlog to read so maybe I'll do a few pages a day as a treat in the run up to X**s.
My five pleasures for today:
1. Unexpectedly coming across a long entry on a friends blog that was soooo lovely about my sons as sports coaches and the impact that their sport is having on her children's lives. It was such an affirming post I burst into tears - happy ones.
2. DS1 doing the washing up and sorting the recycling with much gnashing of teeth and spitting of fire, but he did it and he didn't really have to because it wasn't his job today.
3. Sorting out ideas for my niece's and nephew's X**s presents. I know what I'm buying now - all within budget.
4. Getting to grips with the latest accounts for the sports coaching and the club and sorting out money and cheques for banking. I feel a bit more in control of it now.
5. Feeling pleased with myself that the central heating is still off. I've looked back on my posts on MSE to find the date for last year and we held off until ~17th Nov. I'm going to try for the end of the month this year. I've noticed that everyone is going round at home wearing jumpers and footwear and nobody has grumbled about the cold yet. Maybe we are all becoming acclimatised. :T
Sweet dreams

Ginger Snap do take care, it's easy to think you feel well but that's the danger time, when you really mustn't do so much
1. Gave away a couple more bits on freecycle to another polite person. Nice to get two in a row
2. Excellent meeting with friends at lunchtime, then to a cafe for a treat of mugs of chocolate and Danish pastries. Lots of laughs, we almost got expelled! On not such a happy note when one of us went to the little girls room I saw someone wander over and casually pick up her bag. She started to walk away and I stopped her, she got all flummoxed and stuttered that she wasn't taking it, dropped it and rushed out of the cafe. The bag was on the floor almost touching mine, I know times are hard but how brazen can people get?!
3. Went to visit DD and family to pay DGD2 her sponsor money. Had a cuppa and discussed our next holiday
4. Got home, went on line and booked a very reasonable week in Rome for April. DGD2 seems to have changed her attitude, when we discussed it before she was keen to see the coloseum and Vatican City. Today it was all about gelato and designer shoes...if she thinks her mother's going to give her that much spending money she'll have to think again! Now I just have to find reasonable flights and we're all set
5. Thought of Mhags as I made some scones this evening. I haven't made any for years and have someone coming for tea tomorrow so had a practice run, fortunately they turned out quite well. Had one, gave the others to my neighbour and will make a fresh batch in the morning
Sleep well

Evening all!
Purple kitten - did you take your cats to P@H?! Or dogs? Or both?
Ginger Snap - sorry to hear that and hope you are OK.
No sun whatsoever in Aberdeenshire today - drizzle and overcast all day so washing dried indoors.
1. Me and OH went to the Remembrance Service in our village. The service was fantastic - so thought-provoking! The minister played an actual recording of Laurence Binyan reading his poem 'For the Fallen'. He read it so differently from how it is interpreted today, it was quite shocking.
2. Free listing day on ebay this weekend so I managed to list nearly 30 items! I hope I get some money!
3. Made a batch of Hairy Biker quick biscuits again, this time with some mixed spice. They were completely yum!
4. Homemade cottage pie for tea, using cheap veggie mince (for me) from Farm Foods and cheap steak mince from Lidl for OH.
5. Still mild enough to not have heating on! I get the log fire going at weekend evenings but more for pleasure than absolute necessity. I can manage so far with blankets, extra clothes and hot water bottles. It's a nice feeling0 -
So nice to see you back Broomstick!
1) Went to the allotment and spent some time digging up rogue potatoes.
2) DD's birthday celebration went well - cakes are the order of the day for the grandparents so it was a fairly cheap meal for 9.
3) I admit that I shook the fancy tablecloth, inspected it and decided that I didn't need to wash and iron it.
4) Box of chocolates from my Mum just to say thank you for having us. I will put it away until Christmas.
5) And my favourite - made a pair of earrings. Mum or Grandma (we can't remember, it's so far back in time) gave me some tiny bits and pieces from a pair of vintage earrings and I came across some hooks in a craft shop the other day, so I was able to put them back together. I am so pleased with them, not only because of the family history but because they are so unusual.
Hope you all have a good week.0 -
Gingersnap: don't do too much too soon, look after yourself!
Broomstick: nice to hear from you again, was just thinking the other day a few familiar 'faces' have been away for a while. I know that 'much gnashing of teeth & heavy breathing' feeling from teenage sons!
Sparrer: more on scones later!
Tealady: we went to NYC 10 years ago, OH had been out working for 6 weeks & we went for 10 days to join him. I had the most amazing time, was just weeks before Twin Towers came down. I remember being in Times Square for the very first time & just being so amazed that I was there! DS had his 6th birthday there...went to Central Park Zoo. We also travelled & stayed in upstate New York which was lovely too.
So for today : It's been very warm but big, dark clouds in the sky suggest rain isn't that far off.
1.Went to work but then came home as we weren't busy at all. Extra staff member came in & it's the law that employer has to pay a 3 hour shift , so I'd already done 3 hours , so volunteered to come home for a couple of hours and then went back in. Wouldn't want to do this everyday but was fine today!
2.So came home. very excited at my few hours of freedom! did washing , stripped my bed, got it all hung out on line. Then made banana bread with mushed bananas from freezer (I will get this freezer empty!!) and lemonade scones. I had never heard of these before but they are just amazing. I'll put recipe on at end of this!
3. Back to work, revived by fried egg on toast, a mouthful of still warm banana bread and a bite of too hot scone! Did another 2 hours at work and drove home again!
4.DS had his first exam today and thinks it went okay. So him & I had scones & jam! Then DD1 came in & she had scones & a chat about her day! Got all my still warm from sun washing ironed
5.Going to watch Casualty on iplayer now! ETA oh no! it wasn't on this weekend! I shall write letters instead!
So lemonade Scones, as they say over here......too easy!
4 cups SR flour,
pinch of salt
1 small can of lemonade ( I guessed at 330mls as cans are 375mls here)
1 cup of fresh cream
Mix , cut out & bake for 10mins in a hot oven! Enjoy!
Have a good start to week!0 -
