  • Millie3008 Thanks for the good wishes! I noticed the mention of marking, are you a teacher too? I only work two and a half days (and none at all at the moment of course) as a primary teacher, but used to work full time before children etc.

Hello! I'm a uni lecturer, but if I did teach school age, it would have to be primary, as I know what I was like as a teenager and I wouldn't want to teach me :D

    My five for today...

    1. Woke up at 6am and couldn't get back to sleep, so got up and made choc cupcakes in my mini cupcake maker. I am in love with it, despite the fact that I don't normally *do* gadgets. Shared them in work
    2. Resolved something for a student that she had been stressing about, this involved a dose of common sense on my part and the balls to ignore procedure and red tape. Far too much of that where I work!
    3. Cheeky chippy chips for lunch. I only have them a few times a year and boy, did they taste good!
    4. Trip to Home Bargains for some essentials and I got a few bargain extra bits
    5. Les animaux are all tucked up warm in/on their respective stables, chicken coops (rabbits), favourite spot on the rug, all fed and happy :D
  • Hi everyone! It's been a yuck day outside today so nice to sit in and hibernate! And it's Friday - yay!! _party_

    My 5 for today:

    1. My parcel of Body Shop goodies arrived. I got something like £70 worth for £20 using codes and offers and cashback so was delighted! It makes each item worth £2 each and I got some great gifts to give from it.
    2. I made some Hairy Bikers 'quick after school biscuits' - only 8 as was testing the recipe but my god they are yummers!
    3. One of my cats, who is normally very stand-offish, woke me up today wanting cuddles. It doesn't take much to please me!
    4. I've been very mindful today of those who sacrificed their lives in the wars so that I am able to live the way I do today. So not really a pleasure but infinitely grateful.
    5. It's Friday!! So the log fire is on and I'm curled up beside it with a large glass of wine after sitting with blankets all week and no heating!

    Have a great weekend everyone!
  • Good evening all !

CCP -I do feel for you with respect to your headache /headpain :( xx
Re the girl I work with , I will look after her. Btw I had a very vivid dream about Jude Law last night and we were in Italy and frith was definately not in it :D;)

    ginger snap -
I have a complimentary "Tastecard" for one month (that anyone can get off of their website) . There are 5,500 restaurants that participate and the tastecard gives you 50 % off of your total food bill. Some restaurants allow this discount for up to four people per booking . The website gives details of restaurants near you and if the offer is available on certain days only etc. If you google "tastecard " it will explain it clearer than I have! :) A 12 month tastecard costs around £70 though.

    5 for today

    1. Day off !

    2. Baked some coconut buns and a vegan ginger cake that tastes better with age .

    3. All of our nine hens watching my every movement in the kitchen by using our picnic bench as a giant perch.

    4. My Mum cooked OH and I a home made steak and mushrom pie for supper.

    5. OH giving me a foot massage :)

Have a great weekend all x

Mhags congrats to your DS on passing his theory. Sounds like the test is getting tougher everywhere, which is no bad thing
villagelife good to see you back and posting.Look after yourself, have a restful weekend if you can
Purple kitten you've certainly got the ins co sewn up! Like you I don't understand why they make a debit card charge, think it's just another way to commit highway robbery. 3rd party is almost as expensive as fully comp on older cars like mine so with the free breakdown which I look for as well it works out to be quite a good deal
Millie good for you breaking through the red tape, sometimes it just has to be done to achieve what you need
ninnoodle well done on the bargain parcel, a true MS buy
CCP I do hope the headache has finally gone. had to smile at the foodie candle, sounds delicious :D
chicken, Ginger Snap I know what you're both mean, the film and the 'blind' man - that dates me! Sending you both a pm re a subject you've both mentioned but don't think my info would be acceted on the board. Anyway, hope it helps :)

    1. It has to be the greatest OS pleasure of all - freedom to choose how I'm going to spend my time today.
    2. Cleaned the insides of the windows. Will have to wait for a drier day before I do the net curtains
    3. Postie brought notification of the heating allowance, I'd not realised it would be so soon
    4. She also brought my replacement debit card, we can eat this weekend, furbies!
    5. I know I say it often on Fridays, but Autumnwatch. Always a good start to my weekend :)

    Sleep well

Sparrer - I love your number 1 - it happens so rarely.

    1. DS2 took the car to school and so I spent the day at home and it made me plan our meal from freezer/ storecupboards.

    2. Rearranged flowers in a smaller vase and surprised how good they look as I thought I would have to throw them all away.

    3. Sorted out a computer problem probably took longer than it should but I did it.

    4. Listed some things on ebay immediately after decluttering them. Normally I leave them on the table for a week or so.

    5. DS2 photo in the school newsletter.

    Hello to all

Gingersnap - wow, glad you are OK, take care of yourself

Mine for last couple of days

    1. Seeing everyone in town stop still for the 2 minute silence yesterday (we will ignore the fact that COsta Coffee still played their music, even after asking for silence)
    2. Going to perspective sixth form with DD on THursday and sitting in their rather grand hall drinking tea out of my travel mug (appeals to my wierd SOH)
    3. Not going into work early on Thursday

Hmm, there must be more than 3 over 2 days

    4. Having HM lasagne for tea on thursday - but previously cooked and frozen so it took moments after getting in to have hot food
    5. Talking to the rather camp teacher at the 6th form who gave DD sound advice - whether she will take it is another matter
    6. Gazing at the rather gorgeous law teacher - a good reason for her to go to the school i think ;):o

This weekend OH has taken his mother away overnight, so i have time to myself (with the kids!) want to get a few chores done, and take DS clothes shopping (not for the fainthearted! :D)
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Mine for today and last night:

    1. Watching Kirstie's Handmade Christmas on the 4 on demand player via my laptop last night in bed. Really got me in the festive mood.

    2. Waking up to sunshine this morning.

    3. Baking with my lovely DD in our warm, comfy kitchen for a happy hour or two this morning.

    4. Eating the scrummy Nigella's white chocolate and cranberry cookies (from her Christmas book) and, later on, a slice of banana bread. (Baked on DD's clever suggestion to use up some really old and browned bananas languishing in the fruit bowl)

    5. Spending a happy couple of hours in the company of a friend this afternooon. She showed me how to get the £5's off my A**A shopping and I showed her the delights of MSE, Quidco, MySupermarket and Groupon. There will be no stopping her now!

Hope you have all had good days too. xxx
  • Good evening all !

sparrer -thank you once again ;)

vjsmum - forgot to mention how amused I was to hear about your "YUM YUM " pastry letters .

    5 for today

    1. Went for my flu jab this morning. It felt like my arm had been punched at first , but resolved myself to move it as much as possible - I am a bit wary of the jab as something as weak as a junior aspirin would floor me , but no ill effects so far .

    2. OH continued to cut off the huge branches of our maple tree . The chainsaw refused to start for most of ther afternoon so this delayed the proceedings somewhat. I was asked to haul on a rope tied to the branches that were eventually cut in order to prevent the branches falling on our fences and next doors shed . I feel a bit sad about it as the pigeons loved "courting" in the tree.

3.One of my hens who is rather "pushy" was not remotely bothered about branches falling around her and the chainsaw screaming and smoking. In fact she puffed herself up at OH and stood in front of him sqawking (sp). She is as funny as she is fearless.

4.Spent the rest of the day snipping up the thin branches in order to fit them in my garden recycling bin .Methodical and relaxing and kept my arm moving.

    5. Ate most of the cakes that I made yesterday :)

    Have a good evening all
