5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

I love this thread and have been busy lurking! Time to come out of lurkdom!
My 5 OS pleasures today:
1. A bag which I had almost given away on ebay despite 50+ watchers because it was set to end at the wrong time, got sent back (buyer changed her mind). I can relist and learn from my mistakes! (and hopefully this time it will go for what it's worth)
2. Not so much a pleasure but a bittersweet outcome. My neighbour's cat died yesterday. I am heartbroken for her, but she gave me her cat's sleep basket. It's lovely and one of my cats is delighted with it. I feel guilty for actually having this as a pleasure but I like to see good come from sad things.
3. I went to Home Bargains today and Poundland and got rakes of bargains, including some Stardrops, some winter scented tealights, hot water bottles for £1 each and soda crystals.
4. I am now sat under a pile of blankets and my new hot water bottles!
5. Got a very nice email from a friend I had been thinking about lately!0 -
Hi Ninnoodle, welcome, I've found this thread is fantastic and lots of support when needed, and it gets me thinking about the little things that make the 5 a day.
I love the various pound/cheap shops, its great being able to strech the pound.0 -
Thanks, all and CCP - I'm honoured! I wonder what I looked like? I used to look a bit like Winona Ryder (if she had a bad day) but I'm heading more to Lesley Joseph now (Dorien off Birds of a Feather).
Good to see you back, Ginger snap - sorry to hear about your troubles but so pleased everything turned out OK for you.
Well, slightly better here today, but still grumpy. :-S
Here are my 5 or so for today (Thurs).
1) Smaller son poorly this morning but made a full recovery at about 9.20am...
2) Popped to Sainsburys for supplies for the weekend coming up (more on that later).
3) Tidied the garden - swept up lots of leaves, emptied the over-flowing water butt etc.
4) Tasty brocolli cheese for tea.
5) Bigger son very excited at the possibility of there being a year 6 trip to France next year!
The weekend - MrB and his sons staying here Friday (sons have never been here before). They'll be going late Saturday to be replaced by 2 of bigger son's friends who are staying Saturday night. Sunday morning will see 2-3 more of bigger son's friends coming to join them!
AND both sons have film night at school on Friday and smaller son has a disco on Saturday!0 -
1. Hearing the wonderful news about Ginger Snaps results, and seeing her posting again
2. We - pets and I - slept in, got up about 9am
The following not such a pleasure but might raise a smile - was in the bathroom having a strip wash when a big, dark shadow swooped across the room. I thought it was a bird at first but when I looked at the window I saw the window cleaners mop thingy moving up and down, side to side . The window is frosted and has a voile curtain but I had the light on. Threw on some clothes and went downstairs to wait til he rang the doorbell, when he did it was obvious he was trying, quite unsuccessfully, to be a gentleman and not smile. Talk about being caught with my trousers down, that'll teach me to waste half the morning in bed :rotfl:
3. npd, would have been a nsd if I'd pretended to be out. I don't think he'd have fallen for that one though
4. Cleaned the cooker. As penance for my sloth, perhaps?
5. Cleaned the bathroom
sleep tight

nice day here:
1.Much hilarity at work today, not very busy at all so we just laughed a lot!
2.Worked an extra hour.....every little helps!
3.Son has passed his theory test for his driving license, over here you can have provisional license from 16 years but you can't sit your driving test until 17 3/4. You need to have a minimum log of 120 hours driving before you can sit test, then various rules & regs once you pass test as to how many people/ages of passengers you can carry & need to have' P 'plates.
4.Had a daft moment (or 10 minutes!) driving home, couldn't work out why air con wasn't working in my car & I was slowly boiling! Dial was pointing at windscreen not at me! So nice cool window & sweaty Betty Mhagster .....not good!
5.However......cool shower when I got in & a wee relax on top of bed with a library borrowed magazine!0 -
Good morning all !
Missed posting last night as out having food and fun till very late (for me)
sparrer:rotfl:reminds me of that dodgy '70's film "confessions of a window cleaner" eh. I bet that made his day ... did he look you in the eye !!!
ginger snap- brave one xxx
ninnoodle -welcome
frith - nowt wrong with Lesley Joseph . Saw her in action when I won the Calendar Girls comp ( think sparrers last post except with a stragetically placed chicken feed scoop, a chicken , Joules chicken wellies and nowt else on:) ) she is a beautiful lady.
CCP - hope you are feeling better x
5 for yesterday
1. Last working day of my week
2. Got a lot done at work
3. A girl who has been a pain in the a*** at work and somewhat of a liability , confided in me about how rubbish she feels in her role, how she cries for 10 mins in the car before she comes in and how our line manager bullies and belittles her. No wonder she has been all over the place. I will go out of my way to help her as I can't help but stick up for an "underdog". Glad she felt she could tell someone.
4.Night out with OH's uncle and aunt - it is the only family that he has left and they don't meet up enough in my opinion. Had an o.k ish meal in a rural pub and using my tastecard got 50% off the food bill for the four of us.
5. Was asleep before my head had chance to hit the pillow.:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Gingersnap - pleased the news was good but do take it very easy and don't try to do too much to soon. It takes time to fully recover and a surprisingly long time before you can take things out of high cupboards because it is painful to reach.
Have been absent for a few days as it was FIL funeral and I have felt tired since.
1. DS1 read a tribute at the funeral.
2. Kindness of friends.
3. DS2 recovered from his rugby injury.
4. Picked some apples from the orchard.0 -
Millie3008 Thanks for the good wishes! I noticed the mention of marking, are you a teacher too? I only work two and a half days (and none at all at the moment of course) as a primary teacher, but used to work full time before children etc.
Ninnoodle well done on your bargains! I LOVE Home bargains and such stores. Got some fantastic country-kitchen style prezzies from Wilkinsons too last visit that looked as if they were worth far more than the modest price tags.
Kittikins, CCP and Villagelife, thank you all for the welcome back and the words of caution. You are absolutely right, I have already had a scare by pulling something inside when reaching for something on the floor. Gave me a lot of pain but it was my own silly fault. Villagelife hope the funeral went off okay. Sending hugs.
Sparrer thank you for the warm welcome :-) and making me smile with your window cleaner story. Reminds me of a corny joke about a girl in the bath and a "blind" man...
Chickenopolis how unusual but lovely to be able to utterly change your opinion of the previously annoying girl from work. :-) Please what is a Taste Card BTW?
My pleasures for today:
1) DD hamster that had looked on her last legs has perked up no end after antibiotics jab from the vets. DD and I were both in tears yesterday over the poorly little thing but are now keeping fingers crossed she will make it.
2) Have decided I need a hobby/craft activity to keep me busy and help me relax. Finally decided to give knitting a go and feel quite excited...anyone any ideas how a total beginner should get started though??
3) My mum sent me a lovely letter and a Patra catalogue; wondered if I would like any silk underwear as a treat for Christmas.
4) Had a little potter around the shops with OH who had no work on today. Had to take it very steady and of course needed to rest my weary legs after a short while in a cafe and share a sustaining piece of carrot cake to keep energy levels up. (!)
Hope you have all had a good day.0 -
Evening all.
Thanks for your get well wishes, all. Sadly the headache was back with a vengeance this morning - I spent an hour sitting in the dark with my eyes closed as even the dull grey light coming through the blinds was too bright. It's better now, though, and I really hope that's the end of it.
Frith - I don't think I actually saw you in the dream - you were standing just behind me and pointing things out - so I can't comment on whether the dream you was anything like the real one.
Chickenopolis - I really feel for your poor colleague - I've been on the receiving end of workplace bullying and it's horrible. I'm glad she was able to tell you and good for you for fighting her corner. :T
1) I went to the chemist to ask about getting some stronger painkillers and the pharmacist didn't think my headache was anything to worry about, which was a relief.
2) Got to the supermarket just as they were going round with the RTC stickers. I didn't get any fantastic bargains, by OS standards, but I was pleased to pick up a couple of things for a fraction of their usual price. :money:
3) The flat tyre on my car has now been replaced by a fully-inflated one. The guy from the garage also thought my tyres may have been let down deliberately, which was my suspicion - grr!
4) Had a chat to my DM on the phone.
5) Found a bud on the peace lily my grandmother gave me as she didn't have room for it when she moved house. (Actually I don't have room for it either so it got dumped outside my front door - luckily it seems to be happy there!)
6) Got out my posh scented candle (reduced from £12 to £3 :money:): I haven't even lit it yet and the flat already smells like apple pie. (It's interesting that, of all the scents I could choose, I went for one that smells like something you can eat.)
Have a pleasant evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
I had a call about the interview I went for to say they are still interested but drowning in work will let me know for sure Tuesday. However just in case I don’t get it I’ve also signed up to a temp agency.
2. I had to pay out for the car insurance and while it is a bad hit we don’t need at the moment, I would rather pay in full than pay it was £40 extra to pay via instalments and over 30% interest on the total. I phoned and said I had a better quote and each time they phoned the quote got less! So I’m 145 squids lighter but I have fully comp and breakdown cover so can’t complain, it’s a very old car so I know I am only really insuring against other people. Hey ho. They still charged a 1.50 payment charge even though I paid in full on a debit card, so it still feels like they take the mickey, I don’t understand why they levvy a charge!
3. Really cold today, it’s dropping off so in jumpers with warm drinks but may cave to heating later.
4. Enjoying and appreciating feeling warm and cosy inside.
5. Time to make plans for the weekend, I would really like to see the in laws but it costs a lot in petrol, I’m not sure if we can manage it.
I’m feeling really yuck and down today, I know it will pass, but all I have been doing is sitting applying for roles, glad the weekend is here. I needed to kick myself into gear and get motivated.
Inspiration for dinner would also be good!0
