Thanks, it's still a bit of a shock - sinking in at the moment as it was so quick.

Sorry to hear your news, Purplekitten.

5 or so for today (Weds).

    1) Up early enough to make bacon sandwiches for breakfast!

    2) Went to school to help the PTA pick up the apples in the school orchard for juice. A company makes it then the school sells it.

    3) Whilst picking up apples, had 4 for us and have just taken a crumble out of the oven. There was a little, scrubby pear tree up one end of the orchard so tried a pear too (hello, Big Alf). Smashing pears so I took about 50 onto the playground and the children ate them after lunch! Also took a few home but they are disppearing quickly.

    4) House reasonably clean and tidy and stove lit.

    5) Sons found a pumpkin in the village shop and are very pleased as I couldn't get one the other day.

    6) Electrician here (not MSE at all!) so will hopefully have storage heaters working at last and a new light fitting in my room that doesn't flicker.

    7) Tasty tea of baked potatoes and pizza and will have the crumble in a minute.

    8) MrB on the way. :-)

    1. Most of the day has been sunny

    2. Lovely texts from OH, who's off gadding about in London and going out on the town tonight, lucky thing!

    3. DD crept into my bed in the middle of the night, so I woke up to cuddles :)

    4. I went to a supermarket today and a couple of reduced things didn't scan, so the man made up prices! Only a small saving, but one nonetheless :)

    5. Nice chat with one of the librarians and took out a few great books.

    6. Planning an earlyish night with one of my books

    Evening all.

Purple kitten - the hugest of hugs to you.

VJsmum - grrr, is all I can say. (Although it did remind me of a story a friend once told me: he bought a new bike and parked it at the station while he went out for the day. By the time he got back it had been stolen, so, as he needed a bike to get to work the next day, he went back to the shop where he'd bought it to get a replacement. When he walked in the shop owner greeted him with "hello Mr L - I've got something that belongs to you" - and wheeled out the stolen bike. The little tea-leaves had tried to flog it to the shop owner, who recognised it and promptly confiscated it under threat of calling the police if they didn't give it back. :rotfl:)

Chickenopolis - sadly I think you're probably right as I'm also feeling very sleepy at the moment: I was still asleep when my alarm went off this morning, in the middle of a dream about travelling to a meeting in Southampton by helicopter.

    1) It's been sunny for most of the day, although it's turned into a pretty manky sort of evening. :(

    2) Went to see the vet about getting the mog's claws clipped, to stop him getting caught up on things all the time, and the vet nurse was lovely and reassured me that it should be possible without traumatising him too much.

    3) My new shoes arrived today, although the parcel was so soggy after sitting out in the rain for several hours that I had to leave it in the bath to dry before I could open it.

    4) Not very OS but - getting home from work dripping wet and turning on the heating.

    5) This clip from a BBC nature documentary. It's a couple of years old so you might have seen it before: I hadn't and... wow.

Have a very pleasant evening, all.

Oh, and welcome to the thread Big Alf.
Back after a very long break!

    Evening

    Purplekitten - Hugs to you
VJsmum - I very much agree with chickenopolis on your early morning visitor

    Pleasures for today;
    1. Chatting with a lovely old man on the bus this morning
    2. Lunch with my friend J at our favourite noodle bar. The owner made me a small portion of dumplings as know could not eat a whole portion.
    3. Cleared my desk ready for a couple of days old plus helped clear a mailbox that someone else is supposed to look after but knew if I didn't get it under control there would be such a mess.
    4. DD found her ipod that she thought she had lost yesterday luckily a teaching assistant found it and had kept it safe for her
    5. Packing all done, boarding passes printed, paperwork all sorted. Off to New York tomorrow :j:j:j:j

Due to No.5 will not be posting until middle of next week.
Hugs to all who need them.

Any room for a stowaway Tealady? ;) Have a fab time in NY
  • 1) A nice big coffee jar from work which will do nicely for storage for DD.
    2) Left-overs for lunch and some cheese, which was hanging around because not all of it had been eaten in the meeting.
    3) Am wearing a camisole top that I bought in 1988, when we got married. No-one can see it, but it gives me a certain satisfaction.
    4) Made a Shepherdess Pie (WI recipe) and doubled the filling so that there are one or two mini pies for the freezer. I saved some ready meal containers a while back (the type that you bake in the oven) and find them very useful for this sort of thing as they are small but reheatable.
    5) Did some cross-stitch this evening - bookmarks for friends' presents. It's very restful and they will make very economical but personal presents.

    Have a peaceful evening
