5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Oh gosh, poor you chickenopolis. Any idea what brought that on?
As it happens, my post was ready to Send and begins thus:
1. Up early to check on the 4-foot nocturnals. Ratty's bait station was empty:T. All round refills.
2.I have French Saints' Days on most calendars, online and other. Today is the fête of Sainte Bienvenue, which I like very much.
3.This goes well with something that I've been pleased about since yesterday - Ireland's new President: Michael D. Higgins - Poet, Scholar, Labour. sparrer, at one point we spoke of a famous photo of W H Auden's face, craggy, ravined, and I saw this earlier on the Beeb website:
QI: FACT OF THE DAY
It was said of the poet WH Auden's face that, if a fly were attempt to cross it, it would break its leg.
'We are here on Earth to do good to others. What the others are here for, I don't know.' WH AUDEN (1907-73)
Auden is another man of mine.........:D
4. Needed petrol, so combined this with early carboot en route and had lovely F&V - 12 nashis[3 eaten already:o]£1, 10 peppers £1, 2k bag of baby corn 50p! - plus sassy Rocket Dog[heads up again, sparrer]b/w polka dot flat shoes with red bows, black Romika boots, and good shoes, black+cream leather - £5 for 3 prs.
5. Also chose from the '£1 for any 3' clothes mountain. In Dreaded Ebay parlance. many were 'BN+T', so intense rummage yielded some amazing black silk fur trousers, a Beano cap and a Gap silk/cashmere top, all set to earn.
6. Blanched corn, now in 10 small bags in freezer. Will take 6 to L tomorrow.
7. Bagged old roof felt for disposal and tidied generally.
8. Stayed outside all afternoon and shelled 2 large bags of foraged walnuts while listening to marvellous R4 things: The Underwater Gendarme, with Horatio Clare[love that name!], then Elizabeth Bowen's 'The Heat of the Day'.
9. Revelled in the mildness of the day, even though it greyed over. Much bell-like birdsong rang from trees and was truly melodious.
10. Poached egg on steamed h/g chard was luscious, with newly baked, still warm bread. Added ancient left-over reduced olives, milled and porridge oats, pumpkin seeds...lovely result. 2 loaves to slice and put in freezer.

Millie it sounds like just what was needed.
Chickenopolis: That sounds sudden, I hope you start feeling better soon.
From our Asda shop this last week, not only was it full of bargains, but on the price guarantee site today we got the £5 voucher, £1.05 voucher to be 10% cheaper, and a £4 voucher from generous customer services as the bacon joint should have gone through at 2 went through at 2.50.
1 Made the most of the extra hour by sleeping through it.
2 Making choccy cupcakes well the ingredients is on the side as I type.
3 Enjoying a cuddle from the moggy.
4 A pasta bake using up one of the many jars we picked up when they were on offer, and using up left over meats.
5 Very lazy day all in all0 -
Evening all.
I'm pleased to say that I didn't get the dreaded drums after all - it was obviously too wet for the drummers today.Unfortunately I got a helicopter instead, hovering so low it made the windows rattle, which rapidly became even more irritating.
However,
1) It's been a revoltingly grey, soggy sort of day, so I decided to spend it doing not very much.
2) Watched the grand prix this morning with a lap full of mog - he's obviously feeling the change in season as he never sits on my lap during the summer.
3) Made a cake (using up cereal left over from a product trial) which looks quite promising, although I clearly should have kept a closer eye on it as the edges are a touch... um... caramelised.
4) Savoury mince and dumplings for dinner. I'd never tried savoury mince until I started coming on the OS forum, and now feel slightly sad that I'd missed out for so many years.
5) Deciding not to go out with friends tonight - the pub they're meeting at is over a mile from where I live, there's nowhere to park nearby, and it's raining steadily - I just can't bring myself to fancy the idea, somehow.
ampersand - I thought of you when I was buying my smoked salmon the other day, when another customer's phone rang and she answered it with a cheery 'bonjour!'.
chickenopolis - I hope you've recovered from your nasty-sounding illness by now.
Tealady and Millie - I'm glad you both had such nice weekends away.Back after a very long break!0 -
ampersand , purple kitten and CCP thank you for your kind wishes . No idea as to what was the possible cause of the sickness - just glad it went as swiftly.
ampersand -W.H. Auden - I can recall a poem being used in the eulogy in the film Four Weddings and A Funeral. (At Simon Callowes "funeral"). It was so poignant that I wrote it in a card and put it in my Dad's coffin. It gets to me every time ...powerful stuff .
btw -I am a sucker for Rocket Dog boots .:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Oh no, Chicken, sorry to hear that you have been poorly
-sending huge "get well" hugs. Hope you manage to have a healing sleep and you are feeling lots better in the morning Love xx

Just a quick 5 as I've gone really tired.
1) Bit of a lie in.
2) Clocks going the way I prefer!
3) Made 24 fairy cakes and smaller son iced them.
4) Made a pie for tea.
5) Just back from the pub where we played 3 games of pool.
Bit sad because MrB was due to come over and hasn't, phoned to say he is ill. :-(0 -
Oh dear poor Chicken, that doesn't sound good at all. I hope you're fully back to normal asap - ie now
Millie, Tealady, sounds like you have super weekends
CCP a mog can be better than any hot water bottle on cold days
Purple kitten well done on your bargains. Love Mr A for all its OS and MS
ampersand sounds like you found some bargains too, love the sound of silk fur trousers. Excellent news re the petition :T
1. Made good use of my extra hour awake, hung out overnight washing, repaired a skirt hem. Then just as I was going out it started to drizzle, I went out, looked at the sky and said 'well thank you very much, what did I do to deserve that?' Didn't see neighbour sitting at the far side of his garden with a cuppa, he asked who I was talking to. Most embarrassed to explain I was talking to God. Fortunately he saw the funny side of it, particularly when it stopped as soon as I'd unpegged everything
2. Went to the petrol station and got triple nectar points due to an offer they have this week
3. At todays lunchtime meeting someone had brought my favourite choc/caramel mini rolls, and I resisted!
4. DNeighbours gentleman friend was just leaving as I got home, we discussed the snow in NY and he's going to bring some sacks of salt and grit for us on his next visit, just in case the NY'ers send it our way. Unfortunately he doesn't have a brother
5. A lovely mild day and the back door is still open. Long may it last
Sweet dreams

Monday here already......so much for a lie in with no work to go to.....someone's phone was going off at early o'clock and then someone had left the heating on (very noisy) and then someone was up coughing & spluttering........I know who you are!!!
So for Sunday:
1.Early start but went back to bed for a wee snooze!
2.Slow cooker on & then we headed out in the wind & rain down the peninsular coast.
Got to the very end & found the most stunning beach (one to go back to!) and was glad I was wrapped up warmly!
3.Saw an echidna bustle-ing about! Quite thrilled as they are quite shy creatures!
4.Home & tea of slow cooked supposed to be chicken & rice soup but too much rice & more like rissotto! Then HM meringues, strawberries & cream! Yummy!
5.Quick call with my sister & then bed!0 -
Chickenopolis - oh my goodness, that sickness sounds dreadful, I've had whiplash 3 times in my life and it's way up the list of worst pain ever in my book. Sending hugs and reiki your way xx
Yesterday's many delights:
1. DD and I went to a new to us church and had a fabulous time, and it turns out lots of people we know go there regularly, so very chatty time meeting new people and DD particularly enjoyed the bouncy castle!
2. Made a very yummy and healthy salad for lunch, and avoided all the cakes and biscuits at church, yay me!!
3. DD and I played LOADS of board and card games until it was time to pick up OH. The Monopoly card game is fantastic if anyone is looking for a present for a youngster
4. DD and OH's mum did some knitting together
5. OH and I had a good talk about the situation that came up the other day and I feel fully calm and happy again now, feeling reassured that he loves me and doesn't have any desire to run off with any strumpet, phew! Lovely hugs too
6. DD, OH and I drove by the house I'm hoping to go and view today and they both approve. Hoping to make an appointment after school so DD can come and "suss out" (her words!) her room but have been very upfront with her about the house-moving process.
7. DD made her famous risotto for dinner, nomnomnom, lucky us
8. A YS loaf of bread just had to come home from the village shop when I popped up to get mushrooms as requested by the chef
9. Interesting programme on Tintin on TV before we ambled up to bed
10. I read DD a couple of French stories at bedtime and she read along with me in French. I read the page in French then translate it, she knows these stories pretty well, so was able to put English words to some of the French nouns before I translated, good girl0
