Have just googled it...that song must have slipped by me..but OH knew it!
As a wee add on to Thursday pleasures, we went to the beach last night , was still warm, very busy, had some chips, then walked along the pier & saw some Little Penguins coming home to roost in the rocks.0 -
Good evening all after a really splendid day with sparrer! [who also correctly predicted the rainy-ish weather over a week ago]
Yes, dear readers, it did finally happen and sparrer is now in a Green For Go Operational Situation of personal ablution for just so long as she should choose to dally with a cake of olive oil laden soap that is.[Suppose I'll have to go back to France for more now. So onerous, how tiresome...]
Now, are you sitting comfortably?...then we'll begin: Today's Sparrer Bulletin:
1. It took us only 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 phone calls and txts:o to meet each other[after I'd confidently identified the wrong woman as sparrer - more fool she for not grabbing the honour:D]
2. sparrer took on the Grand Arcade in Cambridge AND WON!
3. We stood witness for each other as we reeled at the price of single buttons[OK-ish, plastic, but unspecial]in John Lewis' haberdashery - over £5 and £6 each:eek: Photographic proof is at hand:D. [Can't seem to upload here]
And cards of simple ric-rac braid @ £8. More
4. sparrer met £land and they rather liked each other....they're going to meet up again before crimbo, anyway.
5. sparrer is winning this weekend's lottery in order to buy vast quantities of Irregular Choice shoes and Lush soapy things.
6. A lovely, truly elderly couple we saw walking hand in hand, her smiling face turned to his, as he looked back into hers.
7. Chanel No.5 is favourite parfum to us both. John Lewis supplied sparrer's for the day.
8. sparrer chose the better option at lunch and is Mistress of Chopsticks[I am not] - most impressive - and some spoken[Mandarin?]courtesies.
9. Hotel Chocolat was open, too.....but we were strong and desisted, which didn't stop me explaining that the unsold Hallowe'en chocs will be massively discounted quite soon:D.
10. Cambridge will benefit from our expert critiques again before crimbo... We already know it's 2nd-hand bookshops, Primavera, the Fitzwilliam, Kettle's Yard and more next time. Barely skimmed the surface today.
11. Another Archers bod here, too. In fact,an antiquarian bookseller we'll see next time introduced me to this site a few years ago:
http://www.archersanarchists.com/
Great fun!
#############
Plenty more, but that will do - Grafton Centre, Library[a little cameo of family bliss, while we took tea, grâce è sparrer]], The Works....
Thankyou sparrer for such a good, good day[and more than one or two things in common experience] - although I know it tired you.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Sparrar/Ampersand, it sounds like you had a lovely time, it's great when days work out like that.
As a rule I tend to avoid shops during half term, but there’s only so much living off frozen bread and long life milk we can do, so with the weekend looming we decided it was time for some stock on a very limited budget, we are lucky it’s a bit of a trek 10 miles to the Asda but it’s a lovely place, compared to others we’ve had the mis fotune to go to if we are away etc. As soon as we arrived and it looked like war had broken out I realised it was half term, but because of that what was left on the marked down items had been marked down to 10p and it was all of the things we would normally get, so very happy the freezer is happy again, and we’ve just had a bacon joint and 10p potato salad for tea which was delicious. We also spent 40,well 40.05 to be precise so also get a £5 voucher.
1.An accidental lay in
2. Cooked up some RTC sausages for lunch and plan was to use leftovers but these will be a casserole tomorrow now
3. There are 2 live job applications that still think I am interesting so I have everything crossed.
4. Running an animal event on Saturday so preparing for that, which is fun but also hard work.
5. I’ve been asked if I would like to try and submit a short storey by someone, but haven’t written for a long while, I did start again this year but there is so much choice out there it seems too overwhelming, it’s enough to start whirring the brain back into gear thou.0 -
1. Went to Co$tco and spend a bit but it was all good stuff, including very nice snuggly socks for when its snowing
2. Went to Ikea and didn't spend a bean (ok, well I got lunch there....) and picked up their catalogue - thinking ahead for WHEN (not if I hope!) we move to our dream bungalow
3. Estate agents called with 2 viewings for tomorrow! I dropped off a door key at their office and was told that there will be 2 more bungalows coming up for sale shortly, both within my price range, but I'm not sure if they'll be suitable for me due to their slightly hilly location, but fingers crossed that mine will sell and something perfect will come up at the same time.
4. DD is home
5. Impromptu visit from friend and her children, luckily I had lots of potatoes baking in the oven so they joined us for teaNice to be able to pay back for some of the many gorgeous meals they've given us over the years
6. One of DD's friend's dads has just saved my sanity by bringing back DD's favourite toy that she left there when she had a sleepover recently, but of course tonight she couldn't settle without her toy, cue mucho sobbing.......until superdad swooped in with it, phew!
7. I've managed to get on a first aid course that I need to do to finish off my guiding training next week, yay!
8. Enjoying a couple of glasses of baileys, slurp!
9. Planning on a quick visit to OH's tomorrow so we can book tickets to go and see another band, hopefully we'll get as good seats as we did for the last one0 -
So pleased for your Happy Shopper time, pk...yes, it's such a boost when things/reductions pan out as yours did today. Definitely not to be minimised in today's climate.
Especially like your 'accidental lay in' too.
Every best wish with those job appns.

I'm dreading a letter from them as I just know it would be the other way round with me.0 -
Not been around for a few days as sadly FIL died a week ago. He had been ill for a time and so wasn't unexpected.
Had to be strong to support DH and trying to sort out funeral and all the other bits while trying to make MIL feel its all her idea otherwise she won't be happy.
1. Supportive family and friends.
2. Still managing to cook homemade meals and not resorting to takeaways.
3. Picking fruit from the orchards.
4. Front garden tidied and shrubs cut down and is now ready for winter.0 -
I missed post last night but was so, so tired I fed the pets, showered and fell asleep - then woke briefly to put away the days goodies ( including some bits which I have no idea who slipped into my bag?) and went to bed. However thanks to ampersand you get the gist of my day. It was amazing, hardly the Cambridge I remember but nonetheless a super place to investigate with my own personal guide who is very knowledgeable about the city, the old that I remember and its newer areas. I'll try not to bore you with a virtual repeat of ampersands post, but will just add
1. The drive was much easier, and shorter, than I'd anticipated, the park & ride signposted well enough even for me not to miss
2. The dear couple, perhaps in their 80's or more, strolling hand in hand and looking so contented together. Without a doubt still very much in love
3. ampersands thoughtfulness in not complaining once about my slow pace and occasional stop for breath, even when we had to cross a green in the rain. The hilight of the pause there was the very brave little squirrel which was scuttling about busily, perhaps seeking nuts to bury before its hibernation. It was far too involved in what it was doing to worry about how close it was to humans
4. The fashions - a real eye opener to one who has lived in the sticks for so long. What fun the clothes were! Seems anything goes, no-one looked twice (except me perhaps) at what the young folk were wearing and the hairstyles. Goodness, how I admire them their confidence.
5. You've maybe seen the ad for tea, where the cartoon character sits down with his cuppa, takes a sip, and sighs 'ooh'? I really experienced that last night when I got home. Wonderful!
Will post today's later, enjoy the rest of the day0
