5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Evening all.
mhagster - I notice you call both Scotland and Australia 'home' now - how nice to have two homes!
Millie - hope your poor pony gets better NOW!
sparrer - I was interested to see what you thought of Ik*a - I've never been either and a friend of my DM's has been trying to talk us both into going with her for months. I might give in to the inevitable soon as I saw a little table in their catalogue that I rather liked - I'll have a look for that apple cake while I'm there, as I'm rather partial to apple cake of any variety.
Frith - I love your son's comment about the pigeons - it's a very good question, tbh! :rotfl:
Ladyhawk - hugs to you - I hope you're feeling better by now.
ampersand - thanks for the kitten link. I keep looking at my mog and reminding myself how annoyed and upset he'd be if I came home with a new kitten, as otherwise I'd be running up there to adopt one of those tabby cuties.
Chickenopolis - now you mention it, my kitchen cupboards do desperately need a good clean...
My pleasures for yesterday (as I didn't get round to posting at the time):
1) Turned some leftover Thai veg curry into soup for lunch, and it worked surprisingly well.
2) Received a free mini sample of toothpaste that I'd forgotten I'd requested: I've put it to one side for when I go away for Christmas.
3) A nice chat with my DM which cheered me up a bit, despite the news that my DSis has been put on an increased dose of anti-depressants as she seems to be getting worse rather than better. She's even started self-harming again, which she hasn't done in years.
4) Watched an adaptation of Wide Sargasso Sea on iplayer - it's not fantastic, but at least took my mind off work, essays, sick cats, sick family members...
And for today:
1) Managed to get to and from Southampton safely, although I got rather lost in the city centre on the way there and arrived at the tutorial 20 minutes late, despite setting off half an hour early.
2) The mog seems to be brighter today, so it looks like the 'illness' was indeed just another attempt to scare me.
3) Picked another handful of HG tomatoes - I'm getting a good handful every day at the moment.
4) Popped up to the local shops to get some bacon and eggs for the quiche I'm making later in the week, and came home with a number of multi-buy bargains - I really will get round to emptying out and de-icing my freezer one of these days!:rotfl:
5) Also picked up a bottle of wine - that's not remotely OS or MS, but I'll enjoy every sip this evening!
Have a very pleasant evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Millie - hope your poor pony gets better NOW!
Thank you lovely, I haven't heard anything, so take it that no news is good news as she is not one to keep quiet if there is anything bothering her at all, in fact she is an utter drama queen and it took me (and the vet) a good few years to realise that
So sorry to hear about your sisterHas she ever had any counselling? I am always banging on about how effective it can be (with the right counsellor). I am also biased as I am a counsellor myself
and I love it when my clients turn their lives around and go out into the world stronger people.
It is horrible when a loved one is hurting so much :cuddle:0 -

Thanks, Millie.I'm sure you're right about counselling but she's always refused because she "doesn't want anyone poking their nose into her business" (I know that's not what counsellors do at all, but she's convinced herself that's what will happen if she goes
). DM said that she's finally agreed to have some behavioural therapy, though: apparently there's a long waiting list but I'm sure it will help when she finally gets there - this has been going on entirely too long (10 years, more or less
) and I think she's finally accepted that she's going to have to do something to fix it.
I'm glad your pony's doing OK, BTW. And for whoever said the other day about oldies learning the best tricks - my parent's horse is kept in a field with two electric fences, but they only have one power box at the moment so only one fence at a time is switched on. Clever 'orse has worked out how to find out which fence is switched on, then pushes over the other one so he can get at the grass in the next field! :rotfl:Back after a very long break!0 -

Am feeling so much better today. I think I just needed a good meal and a good rest.
Have a lovely evening and enjoy your Sunday.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Glad you're on the mend ladyhawk
I think Waitrose sent me the card because I signed up for online shopping when I thought I was having my op, but as yet haven't placed an order, so maybe they're trying to lure me in......
1. Had another rubbish night's sleep, so made up for it with a lie-inOH and DD kept quiet downstairs whilst I snoozed til gone 9!
2. Bought DD some very funky trainers in Clarks, of course the most expensive in the shop but they fit the best so, no question about it. She loves them
3. DD's dance award ceremony was gorgeous, she was very pleased to get yet another certificate for her book
4. Made OH and I a scrummy soup for lunch
5. DD and I had lovely home-made bread and cheese for dinner.
6. We're babysitting a baby tonight, I'd forgotten how cute a six month old can be, and also how loud they can cry! (and how much sick they make....lol).
7. The baby's parents have been very generous and bought me and DD presents to say thank you - silly geese, we've been so excited about babysitting for days!! DD would have dragged us down the road to their house at about 10am, she was so keen! But the wine is very nice....
8. Lovely cuddles with DD whilst watching Strictly0 -
Good evening all !
Boy it's chilly !
CCP - well done for making it to your tutorial! I am sorry to hear about your sister though:( very tough for all concerned xx
Millie- I hope your mare is ok after the poultice? Did the farrier notice anything the other day ? i.e a bit tender ?
Ladyhawk - glad to hear that you are feeling a little more like Ladyhawk once again !!
5 for today
1. Croissants in bed - this used to be a rare treat , but I am getting used to having a bed full of crumbs now
2. Finished the book I received yesterday - this again reinforces my need for a better work/life balance which thankfully is on the cards anyway as I will be reducing my hours at work . Health and family are far more important to me than money or stuff etc.
3. I spent most of the day dismantling the hen house and giving it a good scrub whilst the weather is still fine .Loretta hen was curious about the whole process and kept climbing in to the roofless, sideless empty hen house to see what I was up to on several occasions. It took hours but is now spotless.I would be quite happy to kip in there myself tonight - NO CRUMBS !:rotfl: Sparrer- I found loads of spiders in the hen house under the roosting bars that looked like black widow spiders but with bulging burgundy bodies  I have never seen this type before and don't wish to again really.
4. Fillet steak and apple crumble for tea - Yum
5. OH now massaging my feet with the left over "trial" foot cream that we were sent some time ago. I have no idea what make it is or will be but it is brilliant.
Have a great evening all x:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -

Thankyou xx. She was fine when the farrier trinmmed her the other day (farrier is a v qualified remedial farrier and takes aaaages doing her) and she was fine during and afterwards (he likes to see her trotted up), given her history. She is very prone to abscesess for some reason, vet can't quite understand why. But she is ok tonight *toucheswood* Thanks x lots for asking xx0 -
In DD's defence, I could see that the first pair of trainers she tried on were waaaaaay too wide for her, the second looked ok and the third, well, her face lit up (and we didn't know the price of any of them until I got to the till......) but given that a friend turned up the other night with a bag full of clothes, it kind of cancels out the free clothes
Just need to keep a tight eye on the finances for the rest of the month now though!0
