5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

hello! I did write an essay of a post yesterday morning but it disappeared so shall try again! In no particular order past few days pleasures.
1.Friends: what can I say ? A true pleasure to be in their company. to have a hug and just catch up face to face and laugh & laugh! So far have been out to dinner twice, (last night's was one of our fave places & friend & her new to me boyfriend...they just started dating when we were leaving last year, treated us which was lovely....and we didn't protest too much!) Have been the surprise guest at aother friend's mum's 60th meal, so nice to catch up with her. Sunday lunch for 10 which was most delicious....we supplied the puds (RTC of course!). Friends popped in on Saturday when we arrived with beds, bedding & towels. I love them all!
2.Family (and dog!) : Niece (who is due baby) is still hanging on, we'd had a call before we left to say she had started labour, however, still here & baby obviously too comfy to come out! She looks so well & I have seriously missed her. Arrived with suitcase worth of stuff for baby!
in-laws feeding my children up! They have really missed the kids & vice versa, we were a big part of their weekly routine before. Will try to pop in & see them everyday whilst here.
My mum kept our dog for us, so we have been round everyday to pick her up for her morning hike round our local castle's grounds. Great to be dog walking again, I have really missed that.
Met more people we knew whilst out walking....who had a double take when they saw us.
3.Shopping! I know you won't believe it but food costs are so ridiculously cheap in comparison to Australia! OH & I could not believe the prices here.....we are paying a fortune & don't have the same competition with supermarkets back home. Just have to pay the prices. So this has indeed been a pleasure!
As if just for me......2 huge bags of bananas RTC at tesco for 45p each ! Fabulous! The equivalent sized bag back home would have been about 11 pounds! I always make my inlaws a hamper for Christmas so doing the same now & I'm enjoying choosing things for them.
4.The weather: aaaaaah! This is what it should be like at this time of year! None of this random 29o weather for me! I love autumn!(well as I've said before I love all the seasons but it's September & that's autumn!)
5.Just being home.....however & quite a big realisation for me....Australia has obviously crept up on me & has now became home too. Hmmmm....that has been such a surprise, I can tell you.
In a good way and good to be so self aware too, I and my family (which the move was always about, to be together) have settled in to our new surroundings, my children have grown in experience & confidence. The familiarity (which I sorely missed & struggled without) of home, family, friends, has been trully wonderful to slip back into. ...but I can appreciate the lifestyle & opportunities we have in Australia, which are so different to here.
So there you go....a profound Mhagster's report!
Hairdressers today for a decent cut! Then tea at our oldest friends tonight. We had brought everyones Christmas gifts over so have plenty room to fill cases up for return journey with UK bargains!
Have a good day, M x0 -
Morning all!
Really should be peeling apples at this mo, as have two carriers to get through and get into the freezer! So a quick five from me:
1. Loads of cuddles with Spud, and her nodding off whilst I was feeding her and being all snuggly and warm
2. OH repairing my laptop as it was going really slowly, and somehow the keyboard now works again, shame that dd1 has temporarily appropriated it!
3. SC dying, which wasn't a pleasure, but meant that I got the remoska out, tend to use it most in winter, and was like seeing an old friend - sure that would make me sound a wee bit sad to some people lol!
4. Going to the cinema last night, didn't think a lot of Tinker, Tailor, but was the first time we'd left Spud with her big bro and sis's, and she slept and was a good little girl
5. OH cooking me brekkie, and very nice it was too, especially as I'd found a load of bacon in the freezer - so he was happy!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -

Hello everyone, I have been awol for a few days as we had people staying over the weekend and work has been a bit manic!
Here are some from my last few days
1. Fab weekend with fab friends, lots of wine, food and catching up on Saturday and we went to a scarecrow festival on Sunday (got rained on lots, but still had fun)
2. I have had a bit of a break from the horses, which was nice, but I was itching to see them again today
3. I was dreading the last couple of days in work, but they have gone ok, all things considered!
4. I managed to get hold of a copy of the Takeaway Secret and just reading it is making me hungry! Can't wait to make something out of it
5. Much needed chill out planned for tonight and I have deliberately not brought any work home with me!
Love and hugs to all xx0 -
A few from the past couple of days.
1. Making jam - damson and also pear and lemon on Sunday.
2. Cleaning downstairs on Sunday and tidying - I now have a windowsill at the bottom of the stairs!!
3. Nice walks and chats with friends when out with my dog.
4. Watching rugby on tv.
5. Enjoying work at the moment.0 -
Evening all.
I'm feeling a little irritable this evening having just discovered that the books I bought for my OU course - which I was so pleased to get for nothing with my survey vouchers - are the wrong versions. It's not the end of the world as I can send them back and exchange them for the right versions, but I'm still going to have a gentle complain to the OU about the fact that it might have been helpful if they'd mentioned this a bit earlier than 5 days before the course is due to start.
Anyway:
1) An unintended long lie-in this morning - I woke up at a late but not unreasonable time, then somehow fell asleep again and finally got up an hour later.
2) Finding a new website full of free quizzes - here if anyone's interested - it's also got some minor competitions and freebies (I've just downloaded a rather smart free screensaver :money:).
3) Picked up a bunch of sunflowers - my late grandmother's favourite flowers - RTC to 99p.
4) Braised sausages with cider for dinner. It's not a particularly cheap meal, but it's utterly scrummy.
5) And the cider was on BOGOF so I've got something to drink while I'm waiting for dinner to cook - which is a good thing as I'd forgotten it takes over an hour.
Millie - I've got a copy of the Takeaway Secret, too (I think a lot of OS forumites have) - thanks for reminding me that I haven't cooked anything from it for a while.
mhagster - it's lovely to hear from you - I'm so glad you're having a nice time.
Kittikins - I really hope you haven't done any serious damage - get well NOW, leg!
Have a very pleasant evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
1. Leg is starting to feel better, thanks to healing vibes, drugs and rest
2. DD has been poorly since stupid o'clock, but about 4 hours ago stopped having D&V and has just eaten an apple, phew!
3. NSD - phew!
4. Got the call from the hospital with my operation date, gulp. It's very soon...so I have a lot of organising to do, eek! But I'm glad it's in the diary.
5. NPD
6. Lovely email from a MSEr who I helped with her CV a while back to say that she has just got a job, yippee0 -
Good evening all,
ladyhawk -thanks re weight loss. I do tend to be an "all or nothing" type of person . My old boss used to say " if the door opens and no one comes in , its Chicken" ( not my real name of course);)
millie - I would recommend the Chicken Pakora recipe - page 90 something!! I hope your mare is still ok?
mhagster- lovely post . Very philosophical
CCP- from my experience the OU are pretty good at sorting issues out. I found them to be very supportive whilst I was studying and dealing with multiple bereavements .
5 for today
1. Its summer!! Sat in the sun at lunchtime and went in to change my jeans and had "corned beef legs!" - where the sun had burned through my jeans.
2. Used my £5 voucher at Mr. T's and got a lot of "price cut" items- including their own brand butter.
3. Made some fairy cakes - I call it a 50 recipe as its 50g of SR flour, sugar and (price cut) butter and a (free to me) egg. Made a second batch with cocoa powder and will take them in to work for my colleagues birthday tomorrow.
4. OH was going to throw out half of a bloomer loaf - at £1.30 a go I think not!! blitzed these into two bags of breadcrumbs for fake away KFC type nuggets .
5. Found a funny card for my colleague with a horse turning up its top lip to show a large gold front tooth . It made me laugh anyway!!
Have a good evening all xx:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
