Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Morning everyone

Feeling a little fed up as still have a heavy cold after nearly a week and desparate to get things done. Have plodded on all week, bit frustrated that not getting much down and wanted to fix our kitchen blind (had no blind up for about a month!) and defrost chest freezer amongst other things.

However I have talked myself into taking it easy (encouraged also by lovely DH who said I deserve to rest after I was so busy making the school summer holiday great for our sons on a tight budget :o) otherwise I will get run down as I tend to when I push myself when unwell. So here are my 5....

    1. enjoy having an easy day. will spend the day thinking about and planning stuff instead which is just as useful and fun as actually doing it!

    2. will be a NSD as not going out.

    3. will spend some time watching a film and playing with my lovely little lads. They seem to caught my cold too so we can spend some cozy time together. DS2 will be full-time at school from Monday so I am already feeling emotional.

    4. good excuse to eat my secret stash of chocolate and lots of hot drinks with my favourite snuggly throw

    5. will come on OS/MSE as much as poss today so I can rest....but usefully!

and an extra 6 will phone my mum and little sis today, one of my my favourite things to do and "free" on the weekend so MSE too

Frith – I don’t think dismantling a drain would be my idea of pleasure LOL but IKWYM with the satisfaction of a job well done and not having to pay for a plumber. Well done you!

Patchwork Quilt – what OU course are you doing? Just got my OU registration docs in post today to fill in (Financial Accounting)

Have a lovely Saturday everyone. Hope life is kind to you all today.

Aw Saving Queen, i am envious of your day, if not your cold.

Hope you enjoy it and feel better soon.
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • I'm avoiding washing the kitchen floor so decided it's more important to list my five for today...

    1. Sorted correspondence that's been hanging around for a couple of weeks. I was dreading it, but it only took half an hour. Don't know why I avoid doing things.

    2. Ordered jars, bottles and cellophane for Christmas hampers this morning. Next weekend will be spent bottling produce and flavouring alcohol.

    3. Spent ages watching a badger eating cake in my front garden last night (I'd put the cake out for the foxes, but the badger beat them to it!). Magnificent (and I don't care that sometimes they dig up the lawn).

    4. Hung a couple of pictures that were bought on impulse and have been lurking under the bed for the last year or so. Refreshed the wooden frames with teak oil and they look quite good.

    5. Bottle of wine chilling in the fridge. Friend coming over for a cheap night in.

Right, kitchen floor beckons... (well, maybe I'll check my email first...)

    Enjoy the weekend.
  • Mine today are

    1. Having a childless weekend with hubby

    2. Visiting the garden centre to stock up on onions and garlic. Then going to the allotment to plant them.

    3. Making peach and amaretto jam

    4. 2 loads of washing drying on the line

    5. Buying a bbq reduced to £3.49

Hope your all having a good weekend :j

    Afternoon all.

FunkyFairy - your peach and amaretto jam sounds utterly delicious!

savingqueen - I hope you all feel much better right now! :)

Chickenopolis - I'm sorry to hear about your horrible meeting yesterday - I hope you manage to get the problems sorted out.

mhagster - welcome back to Britain! :hello:

My pleasures for the past couple of days:

    1) Met DM, DF and DSis for lunch yesterday.

    2) DSis stayed with me overnight - I was dreading it after her behaviour last time she stayed with me but she's starting to recover from her recent bout of depression / eating disorder and was much more like her normal self.

    3) We got a takeaway for dinner and, even though my sister managed to eat a good few mouthfuls of everything :j, there's still plenty left for my dinner tonight. :D

    4) Spent the morning at the very good - and free - local museum. :money:

    5) NSD today, as my sister treated me to lunch. (It's just a shame it was spoilt a bit by a large party with kids who apparently hadn't been taught that a pub, with people walking around with glasses and plates of hot food, isn't an appropriate place to run around and play with pool cues.)

    6) Picked some HG tomatoes and I can see several more that are starting to change colour. :j

    7) Listened to the football on the radio and we actually won for once. :D

    8) The lovely weather over the past couple of days. :)

    9) A kindly neighbour letting me know that my car's got a flat tyre. :T Luckily I don't need to use it again until Monday afternoon, so the AA can sort it out for me then - using the membership I got free when I bought my car. :money:

    Have a nice evening, all.
Back after a very long break!
  • Good evening all

Ladyhawk and CCP-thank you both so much for your kind words. TBH I was in shock as I could not believe what I was hearing , as it was so discriminatory! Still now I have "fire in my belly" and the dye has been well and truly cast, so to speak. Bring it on !!

Keith - I am sorry , but I need to ask . Is the cake that you put out on your lawn one of your own creations???;)

sparrer - what a nice neighbour you have !

    5 for today

    1. Beautiful weather - I love the "watery" sun of Autumn.

    2. OH cut down some branches from our huge maple tree . I spent the day in the sun cutting these up in to small pieces in order to fit in our recycling bin. Methodical and relaxing - just what I needed today. The hens like the company too.

    3. My nextdoor neighbour brought me a bottle of brandy to say "thank you" for the eggs that my hens give her each week.

    4. Made one of the recipes on Weezles site - salmon trimmings, cream , garlic and pasta . To keep the glycaemic index low I added mushrooms . Very nice.

    5. Making my sisters day as OH had dressed two crabs that he had caught ( no, not in a spiderman outfits) . She adores them .

Have a good evening all !
:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A

Well I don't know about OS today as I have had a payout to the dentist but here goes.

    1. DH finished off the fascias he had some mortaring up to do. Just under £300.00 all in with a total saving of about £4,700.00 - thanks Sparrer, yes it was a massive saving the boon is having a DH who is pretty much able to turn his hand to anything DIY!

    2. The equine dentist came out today, thought we were going to have a very difficult customer (in the horse), but some therapy and relaxation from the dentist and he was putty in his hands. The boy got extra ginger biscuits as a treat :D

    3. Just done one load of washing today, but it dried on the line and also picked up one of the horse rugs from being mended (£2.00 charge for that) all the rugs are now put to one side and are ready to use once the weather turns in. Just feel happy now all the rugs are back from being washed/mended.

    4. Mowed the back lawn and swept up while carrying on admiring the new fascias - it's going to go on for a while you know :rotfl: .

    5. Polished off a nice cup of tea and a Belguim bun which DH bought on his way back from B&Q after returning a load of no longer needed stuff (£45.00 refund :j) Just had a really nice shower and checking in with my fellow OS.
Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money :D

Have a great sunny Sunday and enjoy summer's last hurrah.
