Afternoon! Just thought I'd pop on and post some pleasures for today so far as I might not get chance later on. So far, my pleasures have been:
1. Turning two donated bags of cooking apples into medium sized crumbles - twelve of them! Ten have gone into the freezer, and we'll have one each tonight.
2. Turning the contents of the bottom of my fridge (one carrot, three small potatoes and a wilty head of broccoli) into some lovely thick veg soup.
3. Adding some smoked paprika meatballs to the above soup for lunch - yum!
4. A nice hot bath.
5. Realising I've got quite a few books I've not yet read.
Hope everyone is having a lovely day.

Good afternoon all,
1. Had a little lie-in this morning. No waking up to annoying alarm clock. DH already feed kids and cats and reloaded dishwasher so couple less jobs to do 1st thing. Good start to weekend!
2. Lovely bath late morning which felt luxurious as not in early morn or eve
3. children playing well together, also both done their schoolwork with help from me & OH and no moaning. All now doing separate things indoors but feels really cozy - feel happy and content to just be around my little family today.
4. organised big freezer as I'm running it down to do "THE BIG DEFROST" (hated job!). Pleased with myself as getting to grips with meal planning and using up stuff. Had a cheap foodshop last couple of weeks because of TBD.
5. lovely sunny day, 2nd load of washing on line and beds stripped waiting for clean bedding. Will enjoy clean sheets tonight - one of my favourite things. Bliss! It doesn't take much to please me
Enjoy the rest of the day or if you're reading this in the eve, hope you've had a great day, hugs if not.0 -
VJ'smum and Kitchenbunny - not to be outdone on the cooking front, mum is clearing out one of her freezers so today I shall be cooking duck! No clue what to do with it so have bought some pancakes and there'll be a bit of a Chinese take away theme this teatime.
5 for today, although its a bit early for me yet.
1) Waking up with MrB :-) And not one of his very early starts (it takes him just over an hour to get to work from here).
2) Popping into town to get a rugby ball. Smaller son wants to join a club (I blame MrB!)
3) Continuing with my canal walk. A few years ago, on weekends when the boys were away, I used to walk 5 miles (then 5 back) each time to try and finish the whole circuit. Then the next time I would drive the car 5 miles further and do another stint. Got from here right to the heart of the Black Country over several months so we did a bit more today.
4) Stopped on the way home for another game of rugby. No MrB (and we 3 really don't know the rules!)
5) Got the Guardian and will read it with a cup of tea in a mo.
6) School friend coming for tea, duck pancakes, Dr Who and Casualty watching.
Hope everyone is having a good day. Posts seem positive so far!0 -
It's Saturday. What more can I say?
1) Lie in this morning to some ridiculous hour. I love having teenagers!
2) A parcel came from H&M. DD and I got 10% off, so we went a little mad and got more for our budget than we had expected. I have to say that I would have thought this brand a little young for me but I'm pleasantly surprised.
3) Newts. I'm not sure about them actually, but we keep finding them in the kindling (which is stuff we cut out of the garden earlier in the year). DH was so entranced by the one last night that he took a picture of it before we posted it back onto the woodpile. It pleases me that he was pleased and it pleases me that we have such diversity in our garden. I just wish they wouldn't crawl across the hall.
4) Logs. All four of us are currently in the living room by a log fire so that we don't have to heat the rest of the house. It feels very cosy.
5) We have a church get-together this evening at a neighbour's house. Although it dismays me to have spent so much on wine and cheese, I like the idea of being part of this community.0 -
Evening all.
I hope everyone's had a better Saturday than I've had: I've burnt my finger quite badly while making toasted sandwiches (and don't burns hurt?), driven into the city centre and spent £3 parking only to discover the shop had sold out of the item I wanted , then had such trouble getting out of the car park that I was late home and missed the first 10 minutes of the football match I wanted to listen to on the radio (although, given we lost and had a player sent off again, I should probably be grateful for that last one!). On the plus side, I haven't vandalised any more furniture.
1) When I woke up this morning it was pouring and blowing a gale, but it's turned into a fairly nice day now.
2) Bought myself some cheap CDs online to cheer myself up - with a voucher from doing surveys so they didn't actually cost me anything, of course)...
3) ...and also bought the books I need for my new OU course, also with a voucher. :money:
4) I'll be making a spinach and feta pie for dinner (well, hopefully I will, if I can manage to get to grips with filo pastry, which usually doesn't much like me).
5) Picked another small handful of HG French beans (well, 5 of them!), and another HG cherry tomato.
6) I've just managed to hit the wrong key while typing this and accidentally cancelled my post, but I managed to get it back without losing everything I've typed!
Patchwork Quilt - you're so lucky to have newts, although I'm not sure I'd like them inside either. :undecided
Kitchenbunny - I love the idea of adding meatballs to veggie soup - why has that never occurred to me as a tasty thing to do? Thanks very much for the inspiration! :TBack after a very long break!0 -
Evening all! I have been busy for a few days, so AWOL, so bit of a catchy up from the past few days...
1. Mad day at work on Thursday, so went out for drinks and curry afterwards with works peeps (nominal birthday thing)
2. Made a pretty Swarovski necklace for friend's birthday and she loved it and it was ££ cheaper than buying one in the Swarovski shop!
3. Nice home-cooked meal last night with the in laws and their friends and nice chit chat!
4. Ponies are behaving, but young horse is lame again, so I am preparing myself for another not-very-MSE vet bill. Bums! She has already cost me a fortune today in supplements! She is gorgeous though - a bit like a huge dopey dog!
5. Dave the stray cat is ubercute and we have been having lots of cuddles!
6. Night in tonight in PJs, with OH and a DVD
7. I have had an idea for a new necklace design, so guess what everyone's getting for xmas
Love to all and hugs to anyone in need xx0 -
Good evening all!
sparrer -:rotfl:I did laugh at the spider fishing net saga. Tbh I would run through a plate glass window to get away from one. Cobwebs on your face urrgh .
CCP - ouch !! I thought I could hear someone swearing......
millie - I hope that it is nothing serious with your lame youngster?
5 for today
1. Had my hair cut - I now look like a younger ,skinny Ruth Watson (Country House Rescue) without her cash of course
2. Did a reverbe and found 2p outside Mr. T and "lost" £6 in Mr. T. My Mum and I save all of our "roadkill" money and if and when it accumulates we will give it to charity.
3.Got a letter stating that I am owed £117 gas rebate from my previous supplier.
4. Gave away 9 eggs to a neighour .
5. My friend contacted me to say that she was over the moon that I offered to have her hens whilst she went on holiday over Christmas - she has had a year from hell and deserves a break .
Enjoy the rest of the weekend all x:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Saturday
Got 2 litres of apple juice for 20p this afternoon so have added mulled wine spices - warm and very Christmasy.
Trevor the cat has been sitting next to me, purring, for the last 2 hours. No idea why she's so happy, but I love her!
Have decided to buy a new (well, second hand, but new to me) car. Walked round Morrison's car park this afternoon to help decide the model I'll buy. (Haven't decided, but it's fun anticipating).
Big box of bulbs arrived in the post during the week - hundreds of them, ordered months ago and forgotten about. Planting them tomorrow will force me to weed the borders and maybe even mow the lawn.
Talking of gardens, a thieving b******d stole a really heavy stone goose from my front garden during the week. My OS Pleasure is knowing that I'd glued the head back on after a lawn mower accident and I'm hoping the thief sustained a hernia carrying away damaged goods.
Enjoy what's left of the weekend.0 -
CCP hope the burn gets better now
savingueen your 5 sound so warm, your gratitude for family and the simple things really shows through
1. Another day getting up at a reasonable time, haven't felt the need to sleep all day for three days, just an hour's siesta, and have accomplished almost all the niggly little jobs on my to do list.
2. Another sunny morning, got the lawn mowed and edges trimmed before breakfast. Was just putting the mower away when the heavens opened
3. Put a beef casserole in the sc, spiced up with a little garam marsala, which will make lunch tomorrow and three portions for the freezer
4. CDWM was a real shocker, one of the women was so obnoxious I wouldn't have her at my table if they paid me! Tacky but compelling viewing
5. Postie brought me another phial of perfume, from a different company to yesterdays, so another useful stocking filler
Just going to watch River Cottage then it's an early night as out tomorrow
Night night sweet dreams

Evening Peeps,
Hope you have had a good Saturday.
1) Watch the rugby - today's game was a darn sight better than last week's!
2) Went on my first ever march today, which was quite fun, even if the topic was quite serious. The quote of the day was "I doubt that this will turn violent, unless they close Waitrose early"
3) Finished making my 2L of apple and mint jelly.
4) Gorgeous sunshine today. I also watched a massive storm roll in which was quite spectacular
5) A bowl of homemade yoghurt and homemade strawberry jam for supper.
night night.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0
