Hello from Sunday! Sun is just rising & birds are singing. All is quiet (everyone is still sensibly sleeping, however, I was BING! wide awake at 6am)
So Saturday:
1.Up early.....harumph! However, enjoyed a nice phone call with my friend & then my niece.
2.Saturday scone & papers with husband.
3.Saturday shopping: managed to get 2 bags of fill as much as you can in a bag before it bursts for $3.00 of fruit & veg. I got potatoes, peppers, parsnips, melon, oranges, celery, turnips, pears! Then just as I was going to get apples that were surprisingly a good price anyway, the shop assistant reduced them further! Hurrah! Then went to meat counter & got RTC meat for the freezer. Stuff is reduced with usually 2 days of BB date still to go. So I have full cupboards, fridge & freezers.
4.Went to nearby mall with DD1 & had a nice mooch round shops with her, bought a few bits & bobs for gifts for bringing home with us. But we didn't spend too much.
5. Had a mooch around the HUGE op shop (like supermarket) but nothing grabbed me clothes wise, however, I did get 3 nice jars, and 2 sets of 6 napkins. One was a lovely shade of blue & white gingham cotton and another a darker blue stripe. One jar was a pretty blue with butterflies painted on it & I got it for 70cents (45p). So quite pleased with my little haul.
6.Caught up on washing (all dried outside) and ironing . Ready to start another week!
7.Had my usual chat with my friend on a Saturday. Her 4 year old DD is so excited we are coming home for a visit. I had sent her some beautiful paper butterflies & she was to put one on the calendar to mark when we come home. So she was saying thank you on the phone & sounded so happy to see us!
8.Slept on sofa ......then managed to take myself through to bed which was freezing & totally woke me up!
Sleep well x0 -
5 for today (Saturday).
1) Boys away until Wednesday so did lots of cleaning! Changed all the beds, hoovered and de-cobwebbed, cleaned the bathroom, tidied...
2) Also sorted out the garden - weeding, sweeping up and emptying the water butt.
3) Cheese and beetroot sandwich for lunch, just what I fancied.
4) Popped into Ikea.
5) Went to see my friend in Walsall and we went out with no children! (Which is a first, having 7 between us). Had a curry :-)
6) Drove home on the motorway :-) Twice in just over a week after years of not daring! I hate the West Brom flyover bit but got round that because it was dark and I took my glasses off. Not a course of action I would recommend but there were very few cars and I just looked at all the twinkling lights with haloes round them (like the Starship Enterprise with no glasses) and I was fine.
7) Stopped at the 24 hour Tesco on the way home. I live in a little village with one shop so that was another first. And I used the self scanning machine, very slowly, hoping no one was looking at me funny for not knowing how it worked!
Some odd news tonight when I phoned the boys. :-( My old dog was put down today. He lived here with me and the ex husband and, when I left with the boys, I couldn't take the dog. He's lived with my ex-mother in law the last 6 years but he's gone now.0 -
sorry about your dog frith x
been another pleasant day here but it's much colder now however have managed not to put the heating on so far. We have discovered our high electricity bill has been caused by the electric fan used within the gas powered floor vented heating. We expected our gas bill to be much higher than it was.
1.Took DD2 & her friends to nearby mall (1st time of letting her go off on her own ) but we lurked! Got photos developed , a new top for $2 & had some lunch.
2.Brought them all home. Their mum has just got out of hospital so it gave her a bit of a rest and DD2 enjoyed the company.
3. Made a bolognese sauce for their dinner tomorrow & a pear & apple crumble too. She was so pleased when I took it round. So also made enough for spag bol for us tomorrow & crumble for tea tonight. Glad to help! I got 2 big hugs from her. I miss having friends to hug!
4.Washing all dried outside & ironed. Nice clean sheets on my bed.
5.Nice chat with my inlaws this morning. They really miss us & struggle with us being away, however .....it's so not long till we fly home!0 -
1 - washing done and out on the balcony drying - will be dry in less than an hour probably
2 - going to the theatre and seeing avenue q (i've already seen it in london) for only 12 euros
3 - enjoying the atmosphere around the fiestas in the old town after the theatre
4 - having a slow walk home from the metro station, enjoying the cool breeze after a hot day
5 - making myself a big glass of kalimotxo (the cheapest red wine mixed in equal quantities with cola) as a nightcap0 -

Afternoon
Frith - Sorry to hear about your dog
Mhagster - What a really nice thing to do in providing dinner and pud for your DD's friends mum
Pleasures for the last couple of days:
1. Enjoying a brunch date yesterday with OH and he paid
2. Feeling human again, I should know better than to have more 2-3 drinks as it just does not agree with me.
3. Getting up early this morning and tidying the kitchen, it was looking a bit like a bomb site
4. Also made some bread in the bread maker so had sausage sandwiches when OH got up
5. Washing done and out on the line, though have to keep bringing it in to avoid the showers.
6. Getting to Mr.T's as they were doing final reductions so got lots of meat reduced to great prices. All bagged up and in the freezer ready for use during the week. Even though bought some treats hanks to all the reductions and a couple of vouchers came in £15 underspent so will put that in the savings tin.
7. Also got one of the chinese feasts for 2 reduced to £1.87 so had some of that for a late lunch. While I know it was a great price it has reminded us why we don't buy ready meals.
8. Off to the inlaws soon so should come back with some apples and pears off there fruit trees and hopefully some tomatoes as well
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Evening all.
Ladyhawk - thanks for the courgette cake advice. I'll give the recipe a go at the end of this week as I've got a couple of days off and will let you know if it's any good. I hope you're not enjoying a nice new pair of fur slippers today, iykwim - my mog nearly went the same way for trying to steal my breakfast this morning - he actually got a paw on the plate before I managed to throw him off in disgrace!
Frith - I'm really sorry to hear about your dog.
mhagster - thanks for mentioning bolognese as that's reminded me that I must take the mince out of the freezer for my own batch of bolognese sauce tomorrow.
1) NSD.
2) Took advantage of the 3 for 2 offer at B&Q to order the first lot of paint for my flat, plus I'll get cash back as I placed the order online through a cashback site. :money: Unfortunately I've got to drive over to the next town to collect it as my local store doesn't do the colours I want, so the cashback amount will be cancelled out by the cost of petrol.
3) Changed the bed so I've got nice clean sheets tonight.
4) I've got sunshine this evening, after a seriously soggy day - I will get ripe tomatoes eventually!
5) Sipping a glass of alcoholic ginger beer while typing this, which I got while it was on special offer a few weeks ago. (It's strictly for medicinal purposes, I should point out - I'm suffering from a touch of indigestion and everyone knows ginger's good for that sort of thing. (Excuses, excuses, as my sister would say!))
Have a good evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening all
1) Lovely lay in snuggled up under my duvet listening to the wind howling past my window
2) Chopping up some nectarines that I was concerned about wasting....now in the fridge for breakfasts for the next couple of days along with a grapefruit and orange
3) Second part of the M&S meal deal....lush
4) After 8 years I've finally used up a roll of cling film - it was 400m long to start with
5) MrB has sent a few texts but he's jet lagged and got an ear infection so I've left him alone - just glad he's back in the UK safe and sound
6) Neighbours cat is currently upstairs hiding under my bed. He jumped up on the window sill about 10 minutes ago asking to be let in
7) Very windy and rainy here - but snug as a bug in my house
Hope you all had a good day. Hugs to those that need them
C xAs my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -
Hi Everyone,
You will be pleased to hear that the Kitcat is curled up next to me as I type, snoozing.
Well the NPD day that I had yesterday (I kept having to tell myself that I really didn't need to go out... despite really wanting to) was undone this afternoon when I got all the way to the station only to realise that I had forgotten my purse... doh!
1) Whipped up a batch of banana muffins this morning. They are rather bland so won't be using that recipe again... but at least my bananas are not used up.
2) Went to a photography course this afternoon (bought via groupon)... it was ok, but I would have been very disappointed if I had paid full price. It was a nice way to spend the afternoon... wandering around the South Bank of the Thames.
3) I was very good and did not give into the really yummy food smells coming from the restuarants and traders on the South Bank... so I managed to not spend any money (besides my train ticket).
4) Got a odd fish pie in the oven. I am not sure that it will be very nice but it will get eaten.
5) Dug up the potatoes that were used to top the pie... which made me feel very smug!
Night all
L
Edited to update on the pie... indeed it was strange. I just can't seem to get the cheese sauce to stay thick. The last couple of times I have made fish pies when I put in the sauce it was thick but once I take it out of the over its been very watery... no idea why.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0
