i have just had a letter through the door from manchester police saying i was doing 42 mph in a 30mph area at 04.37 am . we booked a cheap holiday a week last wed to go the same night we also found some cheap parking near the airport .when i was driving along looking for the car park there wasnt another car on the road then all of a sudden flash. I drive taxis for a living when i get these points it will bring me up to 9 every single point has occured around 3-4 am when there is no traffic around i feel this is so unfair can anyone help me with any tips on how to appeal .I dont want comments about it was my fault for driving over the speed limit ect ect

What do you want then ??? A speed limit is a speed limit no matter what time it is!Sam0 -
i agree
at that time of night the idiot drunk/drugged drivers tend to be on the roads aswell so more the reason to drive slower
sorry - i dont think u will have any grounds for appeal at all
its just a hard lesson to learn

just the usual response then . like i said i am a taxi driver i do not drive over the speed limit in built up areas when there is a chance of pedestrians being around ect. i am a very carefull driver i am talking about roads that have cameras on them to handle day time traffic last year i was flashed on the m62 at 4am at a road works that had a camera on to protect the workmen during the day they also left this camera on at night grossing them over 2 million pounds in a year from poor suckers like me0

You should no better than speed particularly as your living depends on it, I am sorry to sound harse, but there is no excuse, if you speed and get caught you pay the consequences.
I dont care if you want comments or not, I give you comment because frankly I am sick of speeding drivers and the sooner they off the road the better.
Speeding aint just an issue of road safety you ought to try living on a residential street when idiot drivers and many are taxi drivers speeding on our 20mph street, the noise is sometimes unbearable, and yes I have double glazing (special sound proofing properties in it too) and I have to wear ear protectors because I cant sleep otherwise.0 -
It is naive to assume it is safe to speed at night just because there is no-one else on the roads. I know someone who can't remember his accident on an "empty" motorway when he lost control of his car and crashed it because he was going too fast to avoid an obstacle that suddenly appeared in his lane. In fact, he can't remember much about anything anymore. He learnt the hard way that even empty roads can have unexpected hazards. The accident investigator was clear that had he been going within the speed limit, he would not have caused a catastrophic accident.
To the OP, just because you don't agree with a rule doesn't mean you can break it. Our local magistrates would take a dim view of the argument that you were not dangerous to other drivers if you argued against this offence. They might accept it as an argument not to ban if you were before them under totting up, but the fact that you drive for a living would then negate that because they would expect you to take more care of your livelihood and be a more responsible road user.0 -
I agree with all of the above comments. If you want to drive, whether for business or pleasure, then keep to the rules. If you are unwilling to obey the rules, then I hope that you get banned as soon as possible. Personally, I get around by bicycle and am sick and tired of taxi drivers and other "skillful" drivers who regularly put my life at risk in order to shave 30 seconds off their travel time. I wish we could have speed cameras everywhere!0

if you bothered to read my last post it says i dont speed in built up areas if you cant sleep due to traffic noise it means your not tired enough plenty of exercise usually does the trick:j0 -
I didn't say you did speed in built up areas, if you read my post correctly
I was talking in general, you may not but many of your colleagues do.
It doesn't matter what time of day or where you are, the speed limits are there and should be enforced. If you break the rules you ultimately pay and may loose your livelihood.
Don't speed, it's that simply.0 -
This has to be a wind-up, surely?
You take it upon yourself to decide when, how, and if to comply with speeding restrictions, and then rant about the unfairness of being caught?
You might not agree with the restrictions, but the fact is that when it says "50" (or whatever) that is what it means. It doesn't mean "actually we'd quite like you to do 50 in the day time, but feel free to ignore this at night".
You say you are a taxi driver and speeding points affect your licence. Why do it then?
I agree that imposing the same speed restrictions on an clear empty road at night as on a busy road in the day where workmen are working is ridiculous. BUT if those restrictions are in place, they are legal and binding on motorists. You ignore them at your peril, and I am sure you know that.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
if i was driving like an idiot i would hold my hands up and take it on the chin. i dont speed i drive carefully im just trying to say these cameras are put in positions to make money .is there anyone reading this who knows where im coming from or are you all like sheep who believe in the so called system. i remember some years ago i pulled up outside a night club to pick someone up there was four lads spitting and swearing at two police men they were told to move on.they were to scared to arrest them i popped in to get my customer the same coppers put a ticket on my car where is the justice its called an easy target0
