  • Oh I see, so he wouldn't give you a £15k deposit plus £10k for renovation, but he would give you a £25k deposit on a £125k house? (as en axample?)

It's difficult - you don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth!

I won't, NIM seems to think its likely he'll lend us the renovation money, but he needs to find this out before we put in an offer. So I'm a bit nervous atm waiting for him to find out!

Quite right that you're nervous! Why would he loan you the money for renovations rather than give you the money if he'd pay a higher deposit on a more expensive house? It seems a shame that you'd have to buy a new house because you can't afford to do up an old house which is what you really want.

I'm not being horrid about NIMs Dad though, don't want the discussion to revert to where it went before! Either way it's a generous gift but it seems confusing that it hasn't got an actual value that you can play with at the minute!

Well I doubt we'd go to a house so expensive as to require a £66,000 deposit (Since that'd be about a £300,000 house!), which is why we might get a loan rather than a gift.

Hmmm, fair enough! Would it be a DFS style loan: 4 years interest free, pay nothing for the first year?!

Lol would be grand if it was! I very, very much doubt he'd charge us any interest... I'm itching to get this all going ahead, so exciting!

Super exciting! Hope you get an answer soon!

Anyone else weighed in? I lost another 1lb this week - slow and steady is good, right? I would have liked to lose more but probably don't deserve to, especially after a work lunch today to celebrate the end of our season. We did tramp across the fields to the pub though, so that's good!!

    Evening everyone

Just been catching up from the day - I'm glad they closed the forums too as a sign of respect. My nephew is in Afghanistan atm and one of the lads killed over the weekend was his mate and used to come and stay for the weekend when they were training in Catterick. One of the main reasons I didn't go in to work today was that cos I feel unwell I may not have held my tongue when staff came in moaning about the weather/their shift patterns/how their ex-husband is so much better of than them etc. I thought it better to stay home, nurse my cold and remember those that have died for us.

On a happier note I've been looking at the wedding dress suggestions and they're great (although I'd need boobs for some of them and I am somewhat breastically challenged - I wear a bra as ear muffs!!!! sorry any boys reading this thread!). I have saved the jasmine site in my bookmark though to keep checking out. I must say you've made me feel so much better.....Sarah Jessica Parker - God, I wish I had her money!

Right, off to do a pile of ironing.......can't avoid it anymore xxx

Really sorry to hear that, its so awful. I went to our local parade on Sunday and there were a group of lads messing around like it was all one big joke - made my blood boil.

The only thing that gets to me about 11/11 is that we dont remember all those who are out there but not working for the army. There are thousands of people working for private security firms in Iraq and Afghanistan doing the same jobs as soldiers (if not even more dangerous) but no acknoledgment is made to them.

Anyway i'll get off my soapbox now! :D

Hi Flower ( yep, managing to avoid the ironing atm but I hear it coming down the stairs!!), it's important to remember those not in the armed forces but putting their lives in danger nontheless - and remember all the women out there too.

As for laughing at what I wrote - no worries, I laugh all the time and the mirror steams up when I go near it!!! At least my boobs won't drop to my knees when I'm older (I wish!!!).

    Ok, ironing, I'll come quietly..........
