Big changes in my sig coming up. Since we are no longer in charge of saving for our house deposit, its becoming a wedding fund.

    Oooh, exciting stuff!

Since you've left your church I know you've cut your guest list down but have you considered the possibility of having to up it again if you make new friends when you find a new church?

We've kind of been hugely put off church for now, both of us were always a bit wary of organised religion and prefered to worship in private, and I think we're returning to those roots. Going to be a few months before we can think about things like that again. So just going to the village church which will be nice!

FIL2B told us to just put in an offer for the house, and he'd give us whatever deposit the mortgage advisor requires.

Reason I'm not excited about it, I think NIM needs to discuss this further with him regarding the essential works that need doing. Ie we're buying a cheap house with a view to turning a profit so low deposit but big additional outlay we don't have any money for, would we be better buying a 'finished' house since the deposit amount is basically 20% of whatever we buy.

Hmmm, good point Dinah. If he's paying your deposit you may be better off getting one of a higher initial value that you don't have to spend money on. It'd be a lot clearer if he just said, 'I'm giving you x amount, spend it wisely' then you'd know what you can do!

I've been trying to convey that point to NIM for weeks now! It's generous no matter what, and I would much, much prefer a doer upper, as we can add value to it, and make it exactly what we want, BUT the finances just aren't possible if we can't get a loan for the works from FIL2B.
