I just received a blind email with this offer this morning.
First thing I thought was "who are these people and how did they learn about me?"
Then I looked at the knives - shiney, pretty... 1.99?
As a women and homemaker, I know that in this department, you get what you pay for. I would expect to pay over £100 for a set of knives if they are to be adequate - if you want to be shocked, google lazer knives... But they ARE good.

Anyway, a 'good' set of knives for £1.99? Too good to be true so of course, I googled them and here I am.

It is sad that companies like this exist but where there is demand, they will be a supplier... if it looks too good to be true, it probably is... No, definitely is.

These knives tempted me but I decided against it at the last minute and tried to close my browser before entering in my card details.....when i did this it stayed on the same page but reduced my P & P to £6.66!

    Anyone else noticed this?

So despite all the horror stories about this company and you still want the knives, I recommend you play hard to get first!!

I have had two sets of their knives for some years now - no problems at all. The knives stay nice and sharp because I also got a free professional knife sharpener. I got free steak knives and they are ok - don't think steak knives should have serrated edges but they come in useful around the kitchen for various tasks that have nothing to do with steak!

Yes, the knives can get pitted in the diswasher if you are not careful, but so can crystal glasses - the solution I have found is to wash by hand. Or if you forget, then rub the blades with a scourer and some barkeepers friend powder and then rinse - removes the pitting. NEVER any problems with rust.

I did have a bit of an odd experience with the second set of knives where they sent me the knife block but the knives were missing. I complained so they sent them again - and again the knives were missing. Third time they sent them the knives were there. They told me to keep the other knife blocks and I car booted them - made a small profit.

Bought a pizza stone from them a few years ago. It is larger and thicker than pizza stones I have since purchased from shops and definitely better quality.

I have one of their sandwich knives which I use a lot.

I got a free set of bistro glasses with one order - big thick glasses in various sizes made out of the worst quality glass you ever saw - and they are marvellous, had them for years. Kids are always dropping them but they never chip or break, go in the dishwasher no problems, and best of all they were free.

Always pay with Paypal, never had any problems with being charged twice. Yes, I get spam, but I doubt it's from them, it's for Bingo.

I think their catalogues are fascinating. They manage to make quite ordinary products look really classy. They sell KitchenAid appliances which are nice but a bit overpriced - if I bought them I'd go elsewhere. I don't think I'd ever buy their saucepans as I prefer cast iron myself.

I think you can get a good deal if you are careful what you buy. This stuff isn't class kitchenware but it is fairly robust and fairly distinctive - just avoid anything made of cast iron, bamboo, china or glass as it's well over priced compared to what you can get elsewhere.

They obviously have to pay the overseas sweatshop that makes this stuff, the call centre staff and the photographer and publisher that produce their endless stream of magazines and the company that maintains their website. I usually hang fire until they offer something for free which I actually want and order then - if it's crap you can always give it to someone as a present!
  • In the interest of fairness, I ordered these knives, and while I may not know much about expensive knives, or what makes a good knife, I actually like them! And I only got charged once. (I paid with Paypal)

They turned up in a reasonable amount of time, are pretty, and are ridiculously sharp. Half the time I daren't use them, because I cut myself on them getting them out of the drawer. Probably shouldn't have put them through the dishwasher, but what the hey, they cost 12£. Frankly I'd order another set!
  • I've given them plenty of chances, but after many emails to Jean Patrique over the course of over three months I've come to the conclusion that Jean Patrique have no interest in complying with anti-spam laws. The first few times they sounded very apologetic and promised to remove my details. Nowadays they just ignore me.

Don't think you will be able to avoid spam by buying from them without setting up an account. That's what I did. Jean Patrique set up an account for me anyway and proceeded to sell my email address to all manner of people, including one I have seen described online as an email harvester.

I am fortunate, inasmuch as the email address I used when I bought from them isn't my main account, so I can send everything using that address to my junk folder, but where a company can flout the law so brazenly, you have to wonder whether you can trust them to do anything they promise.

Heh, I just got an e-mail for these knives; free with an upfront payment of £9.99 for P&P. Just Googled out of curiosity as I have a set of Global knives that I would never want to give up! Glad to see my initial thoughts were correct and it's a big marketing scam.

Incidentally, for people wo say their knives are pitting in the dishwasher, it's because you're putting them in the dishwasher! Seriously, quality knives should never be put in a dishwasher, it dulls the blade. Take five minutes and wash them by hand, your knives will love you for it! :D

  • I ordered these knives & they arrived quickly. Also no problems with payments (only ever been charged once).

For the tenner it cost me, I would say I got a bargain. Razor sharp.

Glad I hadn't read these horror stories beforehand or I wouldn't of ordered them & I would've missed out.
