Guys, having read this I called my bank as I couldnt see any payments taken from my account after buying ONE set yesterday. I was told that TWO payments were pending for this company and they have advised me to cancel my card which I have done - please avoid this deal at all costs.0
-
Almost ordered them myself 2 mins ago. Filled it all in, selected paypal for payment and was presented with the offer of a 7 pc set... which tempted me. So glad I googled the company to see if the 7 set was better or not... I immediately closed the page so there should be no order, all they got was my name, address, email address and year of birth (still worrying though).
As for the refund, surely if you cancel you are covered by the distant seller act and both the price of the item and the postage costs refunded to you provided they haven't sent the "out of stock" item out to you?Rich0 -
If you go to the 2nd page which asks for £9.99 postage, click on the Windows X button to kill the page = you will be told that there is a 33% postage discount. Click on Cancel and the postage is now £6.67!!!!
After refusing about 6 upgrade offers - you are told that you wont receive them until end on Nov unless you pay an extra £3.99 for DHL delivery!ss0 -
Just been reading this thread and must admit I'm shocked...and lucky! We saw one of their offers in a Sunday mag a couple of years ago and ordered the set and block for a good price, trusted the newspaper the magazine it was in etc. We never had any problems and paid by card.
We still use the knives and are very happy with them, obviously need a sharpen every now and then but otherwise okay, I'd say fair for the price we paid. I wouldnt be happy in the shoes of the some of the posters on here though.0 -
Well this isn't going to be the most popular response but I can't understand what people are complaining about. First of all these knives aren't bad, and bearing in mind you generally get what you pay for, the price even with P&P added in isn't bad either. Bear in mind that ANY knife will need sharpening sooner or later.
Postage and packing is often assumed to be the price of a couple of stamps plus a bit of packaging material, but buyers often forget that there are staff to pay, premises, rent/rates, materials, advertising costs, and of course VAT. Jean Patrique will have to shift an awful lot of these to make anything out of the deal, and they have been around for a good number of years now so they can't be that bad!
You are given the P&P price before you order so the choice is entirely yours. These are probably sold at more or less cost price and the real profits are probably made from repeat orders as well as commission from "partners" they have recommended you to. You might not like it but if you want something for this price you have to expect that.
I would advise paying by credit card so if you are unhappy you can ask the card issuer to charge back the item. The company WILL be charged a fee for the chargeback and it can be quite hefty, for example Paypal charge £7 while Moneybookers charge to merchants is over £20 so they won't want you to do that too often!
Also, if you receive additional orders you can do the same again, and you do NOT have to return them - it's classed as unsolicited mail and it is not your responsibility to send them back, you can simply ask them to collect them - if they don't, it's their problem!0 -
:mad:DAMN!! Wish i'd have read this thread before i ordered them (literally 5 mins ago!)
Suppose i'll just have to wait and see:undecidedAlmost ordered them myself 2 mins ago. Hi all, I posted this in another forum but I'm determined to stop the same Jean-Patrique horror stories happening to everyone! Get a refund like this...
Under the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 we, the customer are entitled to cancel an order for distance selling (e.g. placed by phone/online) EVEN BEFORE receiving it (in fact, if you have doubts, better that way as then you can get the full amount including p&p).
To cancel your order and claim your full amount back, change your details in the template below and either email it or post it (get proof of postage if the latter).
In this circumstance (e.g. before you received it) once you have cancelled it they are legally required to refund you the full amount within 30 days of you sending the cancellation, and if it arrives after you have cancelled you are legally entitled to refuse delivery.
Hope this helps!

I look forward to receiving your confirmation of the above.

Hi
I bought these knives and yes they did take a while to come BUT they did come my card has only been charged once and the knives are pretty good.
Go to Ikea or Poundstretcher and see if you can get better?
I knew about the postage before I paid because the site told me how much it would cost. If you proceeded after agreeing to the postage I really cannot see how you can complain? You must have been happy at the time to pay that postage.
Regarding recurring charging of cards, If that has happened it is awful but my card has only been charged once and that was 2-3 months ago. Yes I get junk mail from them but thats why the knofes are so cheap,,, Its called marketing :T0 -
btw Just checked,,,
Amazon charge £4.95 POSTAGE AND PACKING for one knife, Is that a Scam too???0 -
The P&P is outrageous. £10 P&P gets you a large jiffy bag, and a neatly packed cardboard box with 5 knives. The weight of the package (including the knives) is next to nothing, largely because the knives are terrible quality. I bought a set about 3 months ago (thankfully using a credit card rather than a debit card) and each and every one of them has pitted with rust through washing in the dishwasher. I have a couple of other knives that I bought singularly and have had for well over a year - they are completely unmarked by the dishwasher.
I, for one, am not actually complaining about the P&P - I knew the cost before I made my order. But I naively and foolishly thought that even @ £12 it was a good deal. I was wrong.
Assuming that JP are making money back on the P&P - assuming, even, that the P&P actually costs JP nothing at all - the set of 5 knives is not worth £12. It's barely worth 99p.
Save your money. Avoid.0 -

All the knives that Amazon sell, as far as I can tell, come with free, supersaver delivery, maybe you were looking at Amazon Marketplace sellers who can set their own postage charges, and yes, just as with eBay, those are sometimes scams too.
Nothing is more likely to cause injury in the kitchen than poor quality knives. The JP knives are so cheap, because they are so cheap - it is not called marketing, it is called rubbish. And yes, whilst they wouldn't be my first choice (I use Global knives myself) I would take Ikea knives over this tat - can't really comment on Poundstretcher knives as there are no shops near me, but as a shot in the dark, they can't be any worse.Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.0
