Thanks for all the responses so far, especially Bodeia. 'Linking a claim' looks promising.

I reiterate - I DO understand the rules and accept them totally but I'm merely asking if I would still be eligible for the help and training.

People have differing views as to whether I should or shouldn't have my holiday and I respect that ..................................................................................................................but it would be nice if the Jobcentre would give me a definite 'Rule' either one way or the other so I know where I stand that's all I'm asking for.

The rule is you do not get paid while abroad. you go into the JC notify them of the dates you will be out of the country and when you arrive back you wish to do a rapid reclaim. It will only take a few days tops for your claim to be re-instated. The only thing i am not sure of is that if you are claiming on any insurances for cards etc wether the 2 week gap in your claim would affect that.

    !

Rather depends which decade you live in; older people still use the term but it's pretty outdated.

Secondly every one needs a break now and again you cant keep looking for a job day in and out. Soul destroying for many. Have a break come back refreshed. Doubt you will miss much. If you can afford it why shouldnt you be allowed to go without penalisation. Your allowed to have a break in this country so why not abroad! You can get back from Spain or France just as quickly as Cornwall if a jobs comes up.

Also someone might pay for you to go so why should they be penalised too. Should they have to go alone! Stinks.

    Cant say anymore than that!

    I TOTALLY agree..

If you are on jobseekers allowance then you don't go on holiday abroad period! There are huge signs up at airports now about benefit cheats and they are aimed at people such as yourself who are claiming JSA and yet holidaying abroad.

Please don't say that it is easy to just hop on a plane to come back, it isnt that easy as you have to buy another ticket which is more expense..your travel insurance won't repatriate you either.

Yes it is demoralising looking for a job but a job isnt just going to fall into your lap, you have to physically look for one and if that means registering with agencies, looking in the newspapers, looking online etc. etc then you will do that to get a job - you cannot expect taxpayers to fork out for your holidays abroad. So you have been on the dole for 6 months - trying being on the dole for 18 months and then you will have something to whinge about!

Wrong. As i have posted you can quite legally go on holiday abroad while on JSA. You do a temporary shutdown of the claim and do a rapid reclaim on your return it is quite legal.

Six months, Eighteen months on the dole it's all bye the bye. IMO you should still be allowed a holiday abroad without penalty. You can go on about the expense of a ticket to return, but if you have any savvy you'd be aware that might be a factor should you be asked to interview. With the WWW so easily accessable nowadays there is nothing stopping you logging on while abroad and still searching for jobs. Every job that is in the jobcentre can be accessed through the Jobcentre plus website at anytime from any part of the world. Same with agancies and most local papers have an on-line jobs section which you can refer to. Most jobs give you at least 2 weeks notice of any interview date they would like you to attend so i don't see that being a problem at all. Most places and yes i have experience of this would be willing to re-arrange an interview appointment if you were away for any reason.

As has been said you can holiday in the UK without penalty so i don't see why you can't go abroad.

:rolleyes:Most full time workers can't afford a holiday abroad, I bet they think the same about working day in day out must be soul destroying watching someone who you pay your taxes for to jump on a plane and get a nice holiday for a fortnight.

Your making it sound as if the state is paying for it..?. Who said the state is paying for it.?. It matters not who pays for the holiday, it could be the persons partner who has a high earning job and wants to pay for them. It could be the person has savings and wants to spend it on a holiday. Who said it was anyone elses buisness how the person is funding it...?. It is no-one's buisness except theirs. I mean are you now gonna say that because you pay taxes you can then tell a person who receives benefits how they use that money..?. It is TOTALLY upto them what they do with it. Just the same as it none of your companies business what you do with your wages.
