I have a leaky bowel disorder (some slight discharge) & I'm after a new pair of speedo briefs.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure which speedo style would suit me best.

So, are we saying Tesco will refund after I've had a good chance to try them on at home?

All the major supermarkets that ive been to that sell clothing all have a notice at the desk saying abt no returns on swimwear or underwear unfortunatley most buy it with there normal shopping therefore missing the signs.. as fro trying on instore most have a protective covering over the crotch part and should still be there when it comes out the changing room.. at home this could be removed. its all to do with health and saftey and the oh ive caught something from these knickers im going to sue etc etc ..

Thanks Lisastar for the kind warning. I am obviously not as knowledgable as some of the sanctimonious posters on this thread.

I quite often buy several different costumes to try on at home to decide which to buy as some that look lovely on the hanger can look dreadful on. Normally from Next Directory who have no problem returning.
With 3 kids there is no way I would go into changing rooms

I will make sure I don't buy any from Tesco's on principle. I think they should make exchange policy clear on swimwear.

i used to work for a catalogue company and all the swimwear or underwear that comes back as returns didnt go back into the racks to be sold back to the customers.. they used to go into the staff shop at a very reduced rate( you could then take home and wash) or if they looked bad thrown out.. im presuming thats why we all pay higher prices on catalogue stuff so we can send back as returns..

  • i work on the CSD at Tesco and most of us disagree with this policy the only thing that may help it change is if enough people ring HO and complain - its makes our job difficult i have had women in tears due to this policy. I always warn people when they purchase that its non returnable. By the way when this policy came in there was no directive to display signs if a store is doing so it is their own initiative. BHS refund swimwear as i believe do M&S

Well then surely it's your responsibility to check out that they will allow you to return the items BEFORE you try them on if you know you might want to return them.
That's not sanctimonious, just plain common sense.
Would you want a swimming costume from someone with leaky bowel disorder or a nasty virus that is transmitted by contact?
With 3 kids there is no way I would go into changing rooms

Again it's YOUR responsibility to find a shop that fits your specific needs (or leave the kids with partner, family, friends, relatives or babysitter).

    Great idea.
Find a shop that suits your requirements.
I think they should make exchange policy clear on swimwear.

You are entitled to that opinion, but don't come back complaining if you try on some swimwear with someone else's bodily fluid on.

I happen to agree with you (on moral grounds).
But in the meantime it isn't a legal requirement and the world is not a perfect place so I would advise you to check UP FRONT that somewhere meets your requirements and expectations.
That's not sanctimonious it's just real life experience of living in a less than perfect world.

I guess Tesco don't expect their customers to treat their stores like a catalogue company.

Maybe Tesco should take back worn swimwear, and then sell it on at a reduced rate on some kind of manky rail? Of course, they'd have to clearly display a warning that the manky swimwear is not refundable if it causes a nasty rash or something.

I wouldn't expect any shop to exchange or refund on underwear or swimwear - if you are trying things on at home from mail order, you would normally do it when you are getting ready for bed,and it would be all too easy to strip off completley, you are unlikey to do that in the tescos changing room, whcih is why i would imagine you can try them on instore but not at home.

Do what I do... refuse to wear swimwear on the grounds that I'd never inflict the view of my "wobbly bits" on other people :)

Joking aside then I have a nice orange cossy which has lasted 4 years so far and still going strong so no chance of me needing a new one lol
