TESCO swimwear-BEWARE! not returnable!

I didn't have any problem returning a bikini a couple of weeks ago. I mentioned that I didn't have chance to try it on as I had my 9 month old DD with me. I was refunded without hesitation. All the tags and 'protective' strip were still intact. TBH I don't see any difference with trying it on at home or in the changing rooms. Maybe I was lucky with who I got on the CS desk that day. This was at the Stockport Extra store BTW.0

1. Who tries on swimwear without underwear on ???? even at home! I think the Tesco customer services, could use their discretion and decide if something is Brand New still OR has been taken on a 2 week holiday OR been tried on by someone with incontinance.
2. I have 3 kids and I dont know a shop in the world where I would spend an hour of my life trying different cossies on the kids, and each shop has different sizing.
3. Has anyone every tried getting into the Tesco Changing Room - at my local Tesco the changing room is always locked and you have to ring a bell and wait 10minutes for an assistant to open the room - or I have given up and not bothered.0 -
Mail order companies do allow you to return.
Personally I think this makes sense because you cannot inspect the items first.
There is a big difference, because if you can't see it (or hold it up against you) then you don't know what colour, shape, style, material, size etc. it is.
Mail order companies wouldn't be in business if they didn't allow returns.0 -
I've returned swimwear to Tesco before without problems0

Don't know if this has been mentioned but I believe shops are under no obligation to refund or replace goods if you change your mind or they don't fit. This is offered by most as a form of goodwill.
If there is a chance that goods may have to be returned always check their policy before you purchase. Normally it is displayed but always best to check.0 -

Absolutely.
Sadly we don't live in a perfect world, so you have to check upfront if you think you might have a requirement to take it back.0 -
I don't know how any of you buy any swimwear or underwear at all then if you wouldn't buy it if someone else 'may' have tried it on-as CharleneUK said how do you know it hasn't been tried on in store and then put back on the rack?! Spotting another person's leaky bowel disorder may be quite easy but if they have just tried it on and then put it back how are you going to know??Lisastar just remember to try it on before you buy next time!0

I was just about to point this out, a company only has to refund or exchange if the garment if faulty (unless they showed it at time of purchase then its "sold as seen") and its just the goodwill of the store to refund if otherwise.
I always try on in the dressing rooms if there are any available, our tescos has a massive dressing room which can easily fit me, oh and the kids and a pram so there is not much excuse there as I know all the other tescos I have been in are the same.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
I am quite shocked by this thread. Yes of course legally we have no right to refund/replacement unless faulty, but to be fair to the OP it is generally the 'norm' to expect this unless told otherwise, and clothing retailers are well aware of that.
For this reason alone it would only be fair to display appropriate warning signage in the swimwear aisle and/or warn at the checkout. Otherwise you have no way of knowing, and there is no particular reason to ask as 'common' policy is that exchanges are allowed.
Surely as long as the hygiene strip is intact - that is what it is there for - then a refund/exchange is reasonable. As others have said you can't have two sets of rules whereby you can try on in the store changing room without purchasing, but not try on at home before deciding whether you are happy.
Personally I find underwear and swimwear the very hardest things to buy. I trawl many shops before I find something suitable (that's if I do at all). So simply holding it up against me won't give me a clue at all. If you have kids and/or changing rooms are closed then surely the customer has little choice. I think Tesco are effectively discouraging potential customers with this policy. At the very least if they continue with it they need to make it clear to customers.0
