Will this work with just the antenna supplied ie without connecting to the outside aerial? I've heard the reception can be pretty poor and that you really need to connect to your external aerial. Anyone had any joy?

It is always a good idea to try to scan for channels
at different times of day as atmospherics can play
apart in not receiving weaker channels too.

Wilkinsons do a good indoor wideband aerial for a fiver. You'll need to live in an area with good reception though.

Wow! Received my dingle dongle 5minutes ago, now watching Sky News. Tremendous product, great find, bargain.

I'm using the tiny aerial and it found all the BBC and Sky signals but not ITV or CH4 / 5. I can get E4+1 and 305(Big Brother)

I presume this would improve if I get a decent aerial, has anyone tried an interior model, I've seen the above posts and wonder how much they improve the signal? Thanks again

I could hardly pick up anything with the dongle's aerial. I pick up most using the Wilko aerial I mentioned above.
Can't seem to get Channel 5, I'm not sure what else is on their multiplex but I'm getting all the other TV channels I want.
It can vary which channels you pick up (rain seems to effect reception).
It's a bit annoying that you can't scan for new channels and add those not found before. Reception does vary according to the position the aerials in but you can only re-scan and replace the whole list.

Thanks Blagalot, I'll go and pick one up, but not today obviously! I hadn't read that you can't rescan. Why not ? Do you have to uninstall and connect again? Thanks

You can re-scan but it replaces the entire list. The aerial needs to be in different positions at times in order to pick up different multiplexes, so it would be handier if it could add new channels found when you try a new position out. You might find some channels that it wasn't picking up before but lose some that you were.
It's only a minor quibble as it's great value. :o
  • I bought one of these about a week ago, worked fine at first (dont get channel 4 or itv 1 though, apparently noone does in liverpool, something to do with no transmitter for such channels) but recently the reception seemes to always be low, and the pictures is constantly freezing and sound goes off, and within 5 minutes of having it on, my computer will just freeze up. The picture will freeze on the tv, and my mouse cursor wont be able to move, and ctrl alt del doesnt do anything. It wont respond to anything I do, It's like its completely crashed, My only option is to do a hard reset. Im going to try other software for it, and try it on a friedns Pc to see if they have the same problem. I tried it on my other pc but I cant even get it to install properly. I dnt think I have usb2 ports on that PC though so that could be why.
Anyone know about this problem, what I can do to fix it?
Bargain price, but if I cant get anywhere with it I'm gonna have to send it back. :(

thats not the point, but thanks anyway. I have usb 2 on the main computer I wish to use it on, and my whole system stalls after having it on for 5 minutes. Btw I've tried uninstalling drivers and software and reinstalling with no luck.
