Re Facebook - unless you lock them in a cage you can't stop your kids setting up a Facebook a/c. You can possibly force them to shut it down, but you can't stop them setting up another one. Better by far to accept that your kids are bright enough to do it, or their mates are, and talk them through how they protect themselves on-line. Both DS1 and DSD have facebook accounts, DSD actually lied about having one and we caught her out by chasing through friends accounts - she now has all family members as 'friends' in an attempt to keep her from becoming more secretive. I'd far rather be 'friends' with my kids on facebook and have at least some opportunity to spot potential problems, unlike the parents of one of DSD's friends who has 3 accounts - one for her family one for friends and one for 'friends' that she'd been told not to have anything to do with!

I can see where you are coming from but why do children as young as ten go on facebook? Dont they have MSN for chatting to other children. The top and bottom of it is that they shouldn't have the time on the computer to do this. People over use facebook and naturally children are inquisitive when they see their parents spending half of their lives on it, but I will say it again it is NOT a suitable environment for children.

As parents and adults we now give kids far too much leeway so as not to upset them and to keep them happy. It is up to people to start changing this. Children need to spend time with their parents away from Playstations and Computers and start to do what families used to do and some still do. Watch TV together, go for walks, Do homework together, play sport etc....

We are all guilty of this as I sit here typing away on a forum....Does anyone else feel that their lives are spent chatting about other strangers problems on forums? Telling the world what they are doing on Twitter, Texting people, Playing Farmville or whatever its called on facebook?

What did everyone do before mobiles and computers?

We can influence what our children do but it takes effort and time and in this world not many people have that. Perhaps its time that we made some (Me included!)
